My mom always said that six flags needed a dark ride like the scooby doo one at six flags st. louis. Good for the kids, makes a good crowd. And my mom still won't go on demon because' she's scared of the corkscrews.

in my opinion, I don't really know how popular a dark ride would be. I mean, I don't think people would go on it more then once and then it might not be as popular the following year.

Besides, I don't think many more people will come to the park just because of a new dark ride.

/\ Well a dark ride can be very popular, I am going to the Magic Kingdom (WDW) just to ride Haunted Mansion on September 15th because it is reopening from a lengthy rehab.

However, we all know that SFI is probably incapable of recreating something on the Haunted Mansion scale, but if they put a nicely themed shooting dark ride, that will keep people re-riding it. Look at the one they put in HW, that thing had a long line when we went there, it was much longer a line than Voyage.

I think the reason six flags never put in a dark ride is because they want fright fest to seem better themed by adding something new.

I think a dark ride as big and nice as Gobbler Getaway(differnt theme) would be very popular just like Scooby is as SF STL and would be ridden many times as people try to beat there old score.

Kings Island added their Scooby dark ride in 2003, and it is very hard to find that ride without a lengthy line. People love them, especially if they are done right.

Back to Mike Parker's point about "confirmation" of a new attraction. For those that know, the park has to approach the Village of Gurnee if they want to put in any attraction that is over a certain height in size. This was the case with Deja Vu, V2, RB, etc.

I am on (and I'm going to guess that some others on here as well) a mailing list for the Village of Gurnee so that when the meeting minutes are published for the Zoning Board of Appeals meeting, I get them about 3 weeks before the meeting takes place.

This is where the park has to go get approval for a new attraction. While the park won't come out directly and say the ride, they do have to provide the Village with some technical specs (how high, how fast, etc).

So far, no request has come in. While that does not mean we won't be getting a new attraction next year, time is running out for them to go in front of the Village to get approval for something big (say, a new coaster) for the 2008 season. However, they probably still have time to go to them if they want to add something like a Ferris Wheel.

Just keep your eyes on the Village of Gurnee Zoning Board of Appeals Agenda, which can be found on-line at the below link. This will be updated prior to each meeting.

Dont the coasters requie some type of variance due to height that wouldnt impact a attraction without that issue???

If its just a normal attraction, a height-variance is not needed. However, there are probably some kind of permit needed to build a new building (aka a dark ride). Those are things that would not be put in front of the village board as its just a normal building permit.

All modifications to the park don't need to go in front of the village board...just the ones that require height variances (or other variance changes...take the new sign for example).

If they don't go to the village of Gurnee, it is not 100% that the park is not getting anything new...it just means if they are getting something, it won't be big and tall.

2008 - New Attraction - Rumor - (8/28/07) A resourceful reader came upon a rather interesting idea today, wondering if perhaps one of the Déjà Vu coasters to be removed from Six Flags parks this year may go to Cedar Point instead. I’m thinking “no” myself… given the trouble they’ve caused for Six Flags since buying them Cedar Fair would be foolish to try to whip them into shape. However if Cedar Fair were to have a plan to install all new fixes and upgrades to ensure that it works correctly this time, anything could happen. The really interesting thing was that they were quick to point out the wording in the OnPoint Blog when seeing the construction site that it was something that they remember, “seeing one time before”, which is kind of the definition of Déjà Vu. Are they on to something… or just on something? My gut still says “No Deal”, but you just never know and to be honest right now, I don’t have a clue what they are up to and the local area Spy Network is unusually quiet.

The height variance is for any structure over 125 feet tall. Under 125 requires just the standard building permits etc. The maximum height can be no higher than 330 feet (Height of Sky Trek Tower's Highest Point).

The sign needed special approval due to a law which set a maximum face area size for signage, since the old sign stump was still being used they decided to "grandfather" in the new sign which had a smaller face but was larger than the law allows.

Why can't we building higher than 330? Is it the airplanes flying overhead? I know that inorder to install Kingda Ka, New Jersey rose the height limit, so I wonder how anything will work out.

I like the Shockwave name comment btw, it does seem more fitting to go with GASM. As for the ferris wheel idea, it would definitely be a good idea for County Fair, but it seems like a ferris wheel should be placed in a smaller footprint and that area should be saved for a larger attraction. All of this, of course, would only be IF SWF is demolished.

This thread is just sooooooo much speculation going on at once.

First off, it's not for sure that SWF is leaving us.
Next, the probably wouldn't be building us 330ft, or anything close to that. If it's a coaster, it probably won't be some huge record breaker or like I said, anything close to it.

Next off, I highly doubt that Screamscape rumor has any truth to it at all, besides what the OnPoint blog already said. Plus I highly doubt they'd even keep the name Deja Vu, or even invest in a ride with such horrible capacity for Cedar Point.

And if it was a coaster, as Brian said, a town meeting would be held.
