Park reaching ride standards?

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.

Do you think six flags GA is meeting sandard compared to other parks with thrill rides, coasters, water rides, water park and flats? What do you think they should add or subtract to the park?

I think the park is run in a well manner, and is very clean. The park is great as it is in the standards, and everything is as safe as it can be!

After the recent spike of injuries at GAm, you still think it's as safe as can be?

Think of it this way, how many riders get hurt. now take the number of guests that get hurt due to their own misbehavior, and you have a considerably small number of ride caused injuries. if you take that number over the total number of riders, the percentage is so minute that it doesnt concern me.

Care to list this recent spike of injuries?
I finally retired the Sarah Palin signature because she is now 100% irrelevant.

Injuries happen everyday at every park. The parks are mostly as safe as they can be.

A furious storm once roared `cross the sea, catching ships in its path, helpless to flee. Instead of a certain and watery doom, the winds swept them here to Typhoon Lagoon!

I think SFGAM operates there rides in a safe manner and I have never ridden a ride in the park where i didnt think it was operated safel!!!! The park has its faults but it not being safely run isnt one of them.

The park badly needs a interactive dark ride, something like what HW has that could be enjoyed by the whole family.
I would get rid of the useless space shuttle simulator ride, SpyGirl and and martian 3d movie and replace all with better attractions.
And then actually enforce the no skipping/smoking/bad behavior policies.
And lastly as a way to show how family friendly the park is a would get rid of the whole flashpass/q-bot system and repalce it with one that is free to all guests or not offer one at all.

In my opinion that park has successfully lost any of its charm that it had left in the past two years. No more park music, none of the areas are keeping their theming, and they have taken the family thing way too far. Mr Shapiro and Six Flags are making it way too obvious that all they are after is your money by posting a billboard on the side of their roller coaster.

Tomorrow is my last theme park opportunity of the season, and I've decided to go to Mt Olympus instead of Six Flags cause I haven't been there yet this season. I just haven't had as much fun at Six Flags this year, it isn't an escape anymore, and even if Mt Olympus has terrible operations and one train on each coaster I'll still have a better time there because its only 30 dollars to get in for a water park that soars past Six Flag's and a couple wooden coasters that I could ride all day, not to mention all the go carting I want for free instead of 7 dollars per ride.

Heres to being about the customer and a great day at the park again. I just wish Six Flags would stop sucking at trying to be Disney and start taking a piece out of Busch Garden's book where its all about immersing you in the park experience. Ahh [/rant]

in my opinion this year has been the best year in a long time for SFGAm. The park looks SO much better than previous years: there are tons of brand new or painted signs all over the park, the entertainment package this year was amazing (except for Spygirl), and the landscaping has been much improved this year. So what if theres advertisements posted around the park....

Sadly almost all the new painted signs are advertising for home depot or some college loan program and none of it is to advance the idea you are in a "theme park". Looks good for a carnival but no for a theme park.
I see no postive improvements in how the parks looks, no better entertainment but more crass advertising and more ways that they try to screw the guests by overcharging the guests.

I give Shaprio some credit in trying to make the park better, but it has been much more talk and all the action has been in advertising and scamming the guests out of money. They need to look at parks like Dollywood/SDC/Holiday World etc besides disney in getting the parks to be family friendly and not gouge the geusts at every turn.

well they need to get rid of spygirl asap. the 3 d space shuttle wouldnt be a bad thing. their advertising is getting to be to much(uhm, they attacked the viper with geico and and they put geico signs in most lines). And its a Theme park, so when you hear sean kingston in hometwon square you can tell themeing is going down the toilet. i've also been to busch gardens africa and the themeing there is amazing. all the rides have names refering to africa(kumba means roar, montu is based on an egyption god, shekra is an african hawk that dives straight down at its prey, scoripion and cheetah chase, african animals, and so much more.)

Many people think they should replace ironwolf.

rides run like well oiled machinces most of the time(except for the natual chaos on deja vu.

Many people think they need a new family ride, some think a dark ride, and some think even a new and better thrill ride(which is needed if you ask me).

Wow you must be blind then. This year they invested in hiring more skilled painters. What have they done so far: re-painted all the charectors in SUFs line, repainted most of the coasters stations, airbrushed the retro logo's on Demons trains, and pretty much everything else you see in the park.

Sadly almost all the new painted signs are advertising for home depot or some college loan program and none of it is to advance the idea you are in a "theme park"

Have you seen how they painted Demons sign, or all the new signs in Demons queue/station recently? Looks line theming to me. Seen the new sign where Trailblazers entrance used to be, looks like theming to me. Seen the signs on the side of the SWT arcade near Ricochet? Looks like theming to me. Seen the new Big Easy Balloons and Jesters Wild Ride signs? Looks like theming to me (though in my opinion the new Jesters one isnt as good as the old one). Seen the "Guest code of conduct" signs at EVERY ticket booth/entrances of SUF, BTR, and Raging Bull? Sounds like a good idea to me.

no better entertainment

Right, because a few years ago SFGAm had street entertainers walking around drumming on garbage cans with break dancers....

rides run like well oiled machinces most of the time(except for the natual chaos on deja vu

DejaVu has been running like more of a well oiled machine than most other rides.

You will say anything to prove your point....yeah theres ads all over the park, guess what, theirs ads all over Kings Island now too! OMG I hate the park i'm never going back even thoug they have 2 of my favorite coasters (Beast, Vortex)! Get over yourself...of course they're going to charge for FlashPass, why, cause they make money off it! The more money they make off that, the more money can go to upkeep of the park without going into debt.

You have no idea of what the BUSINESS of theme parks is, a park that spends as much as SFGAm does needs to make money while their open in order to stay in business.

^ Yeah you made pretty much every point I was about to make, and running a restaraunt is not easy, but a theme park is so much harder to run with the generation demands!

Some people on these bored NEVER will understand that Theme Parks are businesses. Which is why I stopped trying to preach that way back when Shapiro and CO took over SF.

But of course Cedar Fair does it better  Because everything they touch turns to gold, they do no wrong at nothing.

Um, what? I have never been soo dissapointed with the park, especially the rides department. Amount of rides down to personel shortages, the budget cuts this year, and the overall lack of concern for what the guests want went downhill.

On the flip side, Entertainment gets mad props from me this year.

First, that is a very strong statement. Second, that is completely how I feel. We spend our hard earned (or parents or whoever's) dollars at the park and they should make it more customer friendly. Though I wasn't even alive during the time, I'm sure Mariott's Great America did a much better job. Though I love the park, I too haven't had as much fun this year.

I can speak from experience with that. Today when I went I slipped on a wet path and skinned most of my right arm, bruised and nearly dislocated my knee, and bruised my left arm. I did't go to first aid, but things happen all the time, they're just not known.

(One more response)
When I went to the park today, my friend and I were riding Demon and he sat in pee. The whole station wreaked of it, and they didn't seem to care that he sat in someone else's urine. I'd say that is falling standards.

One thing I noticed when I was there the other day is how dirty the park vents are in stores especially in the bat cave area. (Which is boiling hot) People claim the park is clean but in my option it is not that clean as it was in the passed. Back in 97 and 98 the parks was spotless, not one spider web could be found. Now they are all over. And the park music just sucks. The live announcements that no one understands. And the way over priced drinks. People need to remember that Disney Food prices are a lot less then at SFGAM. A bottle of water at Six Flags is $3.50 and one at Disney World is only $2.00. As for the advisements. They are not terrible but they seem to keep adding more and more that soon it will become annoying to the customer that they will not come back again.

^ Yeah, pretty much agreed.

But I try to ignore all that and have fun anyway. It's the GP that piss me off to the max, especially when they linejump. Man that sucks, tomorrow I'm going to be moody as heck

I still really really hate the ridiculous prices though. Honestly, I see so many people eating or drinking something I want and it drives me nuts... if I had a job I'd probably buy stuff at the park, but I don't, so...

Hey, just a thought or an idea. lower the damn admission price and parking price. It's really sad that everytime I come to the park, I can hear the money vaccums sucking everyone dry.
Candy: What you lookin' at?
Otis B. Driftwood: I'm lookin' at you, mama.
Candy: Yeah, you see something you like?
Otis B. Driftwood: Maybe. I set my standards pretty low, so I'm never disappointed.

^No, i think the admissions and parking are pretty fair. $54.99 for general admission is pretty DAMN goodfor a 300 acre theme park, and a fairly nice water park FREE. And, $15 isn't too bad, sure $10 might be a little more reasonable, but all in all (food and retail aside), pricing is pretty good/fair at gam.
