Okay. My sister and I haven't had a free day to go to the park, and tomorrow is our only option in the near future. But, it's supposed to have scattered thunderstorms in Gurnee tomorrow. I was just wondering if we should still plan on going, and if the weather much effects the tall coasters and such.
Thanks in advance.
Ragin' Cajun, Deja Vu, and Whizzer will cease operation in any rain. All other coasters cease operation in moderate rain. No coasters will run 3 trains in any rain. If there is lightning, any ride that leaves ground level will shut down.
That's kind of a judgement call. We've gone on days when rain was possible...with varied results. One day, it started out with light sprinkles, but we still managed to get on the bigger coasters (even though Whizzer, et al were closed). Once it stopped raining and they had tested the other rides, they opened them back up.
I would check the rain percentage. If it's less that 30-40%, I'd still go. You still have a crack at a pretty good day. Also, chances of bad weather sometimes thin out the crowd too.
We've only had one day where they closed everything, July 18th this year. But even that was after 7:00pm.
Well the National Weather service forecast calls for:
Friday: Periods of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 1pm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. High near 78. Breezy, with a southwest wind 10 to 20 mph becoming northeast. Chance of precipitation is 90%.
Looks like a washout
But, heres the thing, The forecast says the showers and thunderstorms are expected before 1pm, If you could stick it out, you pretty much will have the park to yourself afterwards. That is of course the rain ends at 1.

I'll attest to that. One day a few years ago, I had planned to go for two days. Well, only when I went that second day, I found out there was a relatively high chance of rain, I don't remember the percentage. But yeah, it was an awesome day because the crowds weren't bad at all and the ride lines were awesomely short for the most part. It rained twice, but both times it lasted about 20 minutes and it was so hot that about 20 minutes after it rained each time, you couldn't even tell it even rained. Matter of fact, one time it rained when I was on the train. I took a round trip from Hometown Station and the rain started I think when we were around the Eagle area and then it stopped when we were around Southwest Territory. So it actually stopped before I got off the train. Sweet!
Hee hee, look. I have a signature thingy um, thing.
Thank you all. I still want to go, but it's mainly up to my *coughwimpycough* sister, and she doesn't want to put up with the rain. If only I could drive......*sigh*
Luckily, though, she doesn't have anything going on Monday....so there's a possibility. Thanks again!!
Rides are fun in the rain. Every ride becomes a water ride in the rain If it starts raining head right for AE. It rides faster and smoother in the rain.
