When I went Friday, one car was half-up the tower with a large box above, and there were maybe 3 people in the ride area talking and pointing some things out but I didnt hear anything. I hope it'll open soon!
The box is a maintenence cart they put on top of the catch wagon to ride up/down the tower to inspect the cables, and yes it has seen some action and the ride has done some cycling also, when itll be ready to open I have no idea.
I talked to a maintenece man who was cycling the Giant Drop today, and he told me they are trying to have it open within the next two weeks, or even sooner than we think, but he really couldn't tell me more because he didn't want to "get my hopes up"
^ Yeah, I was going to get in line for the bull when the lady giving out line tickets told me it was a 2 hr wait, so then I go to Fiesta Fries to get a coke and we that the cars are coming down very slowly, and the man in the controls talking on the phone, then he cycled all but 2 cars twice, so trust me im not lying. (I know you didnt accuse me)
I went tonight and saw about 4 full cycle tests. I think all the cars. Pulled up like normal then dropped like normal and breaks kicked in the normal. So now it shouldn't be long.
John Cena Chain Gang, YOU CANT SEE ME.
Clear for launch....Goodbye. V2.
^Yay! I've never been on GD. Though I've been on Drop Zone at Kings Island, so I'm not really missing much. Still, I love drop rides. I'm definitely riding it next time

Just moved to Chicago from Ohio, and I'm ready for SFGA!
That's great news! I wonder if all the other drop rides they closed are also open too, now. (particularly, STOP at St. Louis, since I didn't get a chance to try that last year when I was there, and we were thinking of going sometime this year)
Just out of curiosity- what the lines like for Giant Drop now that it's reopened? I was wondering if the accident at KK would cause a drop in popularity of the drop towers, like it did with the Edge at GA and the Skyway at SFSL.
^^not sure, but I do know that when I went to SFOT, STOP there was pretty long (even though they are completely different). I was expecting people to get them confused and not ride it.

Yesterday (Sunday) the line was almost non-existent in the early afternoon.

Probably not at all Drop Towers, but the one at Kentucky Kingdom will definitely lose a ton of ridership.
I'm going to go ahead and guess SFKK's drop will quietly disappear in the near future similar to The Edge that was at SFGAm until it had it's accident, it lingered for a year or 2 then was taken out.
Normally parks wouldn't remove a ride after most accidents, but with one as gruesome as this one, ridership just wont be there if it does reopen at all.
I wouldn't completely discount the idea of SF moving it to another park perhaps, but it'd be difficult to escape the media as they'd surely find out where it came from and what it was involved in, in what ever market SF or any other chain that would try and install it.
