hm...i seem to have a knack for liking things that most people don't like (ie shows, music, movies etc.). I havent' seen spygirl yet, but i plan to see it soon.
Well Shapiro will be coming back on the 13th to see it again. When they have the Media Preview day. I hoping that they makes some changes to it to make it better or come media day we are going to have reporters tells us not to see the show.
I think I would have preferred half an hour of Sanjaya and William Hung singing duets. Poor line delivery of even worse dialogue, horribly poor fight choreography, no real jaw dropping stunts.
Pink haired annoying "hero" got stick in the rip line foot loop when making her "dramatic" entrance. She had to be stopped by another actor before hitting the wall ala Wile E. Coyote.
One guy had swords made of aluminum foil that rattled so loud and looked so flimsy, I thought it was a joke at first.
Aside from the rip line entrance, and some mountain climbing, all of the other stunts consist of trampoline jumping.
No pyro - except for the end, and well it underwhelms to say the least. When a gun is fired - no blanks. Instead we get - no lie - pew, pew pew. Seriously, the friggin effect we all made as kids for little laser guns is what they used for a gun effect.
The set designer gets good marks for the volcano, and the sound guys for the bass / bench rumble effect.
Bring in some retired has been pro wrestlers to show these folks how to make a fake hit look real.
I went into it looking to see if it was worth bringing my 6 yr old next time we're up. The answer is .. maybe.. if all the rides are broke, my legs are crippled, and I'm getting paid for my time.
I enjoy SFGAM shows, especially LAFF. After seeing this dung pile, it may be a while before I try any other shows.
It's the most fun in the park when your laughing in the dark.
Just for the record, they have added a few more borderline pyro effects (gun shots, etc.) since opening weekend and the overall show is running a bit smoother but I am still completely underwhelmed by the whole thing.
I can finally give my 2 cents about this. Personally, not to sound mean to anyone who really liked this show, but I honestly think it's one of the worst shows I've ever seen at the park. Half the time I had no idea what was actually going on. I think the best part might have been the set.
There was no pyro for yesterday's show. It kind of made the whole rocket thing seem silly since there really was nothing other than smoke. It just didn't do anything for me. I was a bit bored throughout it, and it lacked plenty in my opinion.
I am going to have to disagree with the people who gave props to the designers. The set is a very un-original concept that is poorly executed. (but this is a theatre person talking) The sound, not quite enough bass for me, but I was a little annoyed by the poorly mixed mics that were doing alot of clipping and were getting triggered when spygirl was doing all her "fancy moves."
I went to go see the show wed or thursday night I believe, and the volcano didn't work, so they stopped the show, played a recording about technical difficulties, and left us totally hanging. I saw the stage manager or someone important like that RUN down the bleachers towards the stage, and spy girl was all "guess i have to find a way into this volcano!" and she just, climbed off the stage. End of show.
Overall I'll say this: its not a terrible terrible show, but its not amazing. Give 'em the season to work on it and i'll bet those "stunts" will become cleaner and cleaner as it goes along. They're still a fairly fresh cast.
My vote would go to a western stunt show or a batman stunt show, or even bringing the circus back. (but i'm just a patron and my vote doesn't mean much)
What you don't understand you can make mean anything.
It's even worse then I was expecting. Here were my thoughts.
-The set is by far the worst of the 4 stunt shows the park has had.
-The "stunts" were non-existent.
-There wasn't even one explosion, just puffs of fog.
-It was more of a acrobat show then a Stunt Show.
-The fight scenes were very repetitive, back handspring after back handspring.....we get it, you can do that.
-They didn't even try to hide the mats they were falling on too, and you could see the actors roll off the mats and just walk backstage.
-The Theme Song...lol
I really can't see how this Stunt Show will ever be any good unless they make some major changes. There's a reason the Batman Stunt Show had Dirt Bikes, and the Southwest Stunt Show had horses in it to do stunts on...so it wasn't "24" minutes of acrobats and poor repetitive fight scenes.
I saw it on the 9th and I must say....I hated it. It was ridiculously stupid. I could have done most of that gymnastics and stuff like that. It was just really boring. I won't see it again unless they change it.
