Busiest times of the year at SFGAM?

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.
Postby bhoefer2 on May 21st, 2007, 1:06 pm
So when are the busiest times of the year? Or better yet, does anyone have advice on when the slowest times are to visit? I think we'd like to stick to a date that's open to 10:00 pm (or at least 9:00 pm). Are weekdays WAY less busy than weekends? Or if you'll be spending a lot of time in the kiddie areas does it not really matter?

Sorry that turned into so many questions

Once again. Check around the Trip-Report forum. I am not trying to sound rude, but soo many people ask that same question.

This year has been a very odd year for attendance, It seems like we're already having peak season crowds..but at the same time half the time things have been absolutly dead. It'll be interesting to see how the cicada thing affects our attendance...

As a general rule once school is out things really pick up. Tuesdays-Wednesdays-Thursdays are the best bet during the week since those days aren't connected with the weekend. I never suggest Saturday's to anyone.

I've also found that getting to the park right at opening on a Sunday is usually not too bad. Things don'r really start picking up until noon or so.

There's not a hard and fast rule on anything. None of us know how many company outings are on a particular day so things can get really crowded when you wouldn't expect it.

This is usually right, but not always right. By the days of the week: Tuesday and Thursday tend to be least crowded and Wednesday following behind. Leaving Friday-Monday being the most crowded.

Emptiest times of the year are opening weekend, Mother's Day, last full week of operation in September and usually closing day.

All days are usually weather depending, so those with bad weather expected will usually have emptier crowds than those with nicer weather. That is all you can predict, it is basically hit or miss from there.

Wasn't last years last week in September really really crowded?

/\ No, but it was more crowded than the previous year, about 15-20 minute waits for SUF.

^ Disagree, the last weekend of September always has alot of company picnics, which creates a very crowded park.

My only suggestion would be to avoid Saturday's at all costs.

Don't go within the last two weeks of August.

I don't know exactly when the RTS tickets expire, but it is around that time.

I was talking about the last full week of weekdays, but that is in August and not September this season. Two seasons ago it was in September and dead; last season I don't remember when it was and wasn't crowded. I completely agree with you that weekends in September are crowded.

I think they're referring to RTS, read to succeed, when all the little kids who read 600 minutes get a free ticket to Six Flags. Usually, the first couple of weeks of August is when they expire, and at that time, you can expect the longest lines possibly of the season. I think I remember hearing a four hour wait for superman once.....ugh!

I also think that any weekends all season long, with the exceptions of maybe the first weekend, and days like mothers day can be extremely busy. I usually try to get up there on weekdays, mostly the tuesday or thrusdays since i have the day off, but occasionally I'll do a weekend if I have school.

Friday-Sunday, July 4, Memorial Day, and during the Summer Time are the BUSIEST days from what i was told. The best time to go is like Monday-Thursday (Not like the 4th of July week). Like i said i really don't know i was told this.
