Gotham City Crime Wave

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.

Apparently, they re-themed their Wave Swinger at SFNE:

What do you guys think about this being done to the Whirligig, seeing as it is right next to Batman?

It could happen...I wouldn't like seeing it though. SFOG also got that version a few years ago.

A furious storm once roared `cross the sea, catching ships in its path, helpless to flee. Instead of a certain and watery doom, the winds swept them here to Typhoon Lagoon!

^I agree, I think this idea/scheme looks incredible. The only downside would be that it would result in the 100 percent ruining of the Yankee Harbor theme, which is already on it's last legs it seems.

The whirligig is a classic. One of the golden days of Great America. Six Flags tries to keep their classic rides and keps them in good condition. Look at Yankee Clipper, American Eagle, Carousel, Sky Trek, Whizzer, etc. It would be a stupid move for Six Flags to repaint the whirligig.

They also tried renaming Whirly once and that didn't last long. Anyone remember Gotham City Swinger?

I dont see anything YANKEE HARBOR like in there accept for Whirly. i mean i dont exactly see the Batman Arcade, Batman and v2 being very Yankee Harbor if you ask me!

You may not get bored of this, but many park guests are eventually gonna get bored with the lack of themeing. Time to spice things up! Remember they want to focus on FAMILIES?

Kids and many Teens if you ask me, could care less about a "Yankee Harbor" or what not. Kids like Batman, cartoons, animated series, teens like themes geared more towards movies, and tv shows and more there ara. this is what they wanna see! So i dont understand how changing a themed area away from an "american theme" would hurt?!
You have to remember that changing a name, doesnt change the intensity, or layout of the ride, you retheme it, it catches there eye like "Wow mom look, they rethemed it, i wanna ride! They cant just keep things intact to please the few adults or elders who have been coming here since the good old days, they need to livin it up, and prepare for new park guests and future guests and make this a place they will be willing to travel to often.

Its like running a grocery store, and never remodeling it, or fixing the paint, or a broken shelf or checkout, just becuase the elders dont like change!

I sure wouldnt stop going on a ride or to the park just because they changed or rethemed an area, actually it would catch my eye and i would be more drawn to that area because its a "new layout/look and feel". Ok done ranting now.

Pesonally I think the entire area shoul be retheamed to Gotham City. There is no real "City" area in Great America. In this they could keep the Marriot Americana traditon alive while embracing the new DC comics and updating the park. I think it would be the best of both worlds and really help homoginize this area of the park.

^It'd be interesting to see V2 get a Mr. Freeze theme. Or even a Robin theme for that matter.

I agree. I think this space should be rethemed. I really like the gotham city crime wave. It would fit well with our batman.

Well, all the people i've talked to HATE it when the grocery store changes where they put their food

Oh, and i'm only 19 and still like the antique feel of the Whirligig. However, i'm not saying i'm opposed to the retheming of it. If they do this however, I would like to see the entire section rethemed as well. And if they can't tie it into the park theme, i'd like to see a complete retheming happen for our park. Such as the new Six Flags Discovery Kingdom. Consistency is what i appreciate, but this could just be me being picky. :)

I wouldn't really like to see Whirly get refurbished...and I don't think it will happen because like someone said earlier, it's a classic.

The ride experience wouldn't change just because of some paint....

The new WaveSwinger isnt just painted over. Its new fiberglass inserts and pieces..nothing fantastic like the original Whirligig we have.

I would rather see it painted light and dark blue, and called Tidal Wave 2 (or T2, instead of V2 for short), to pay homage to one of the greatest rides ever at Great America. After all, it does resemble a huge wave, and would fit the Yankee Harbor theme alot better, than the current modern, techno, sci-fi, whatever theme it is now...

^ I was just going to say rename V2 to Tidal Wave. It would fit perfect and repaint it to blue/ cool blue. They also need to redo the stores and arcade in the area to. If they do those changes the area should be back to normal.
