I just read on Screamscape that Flash Passes are being replaced by Q-Bot pagers this summer! I've never been to a park that uses this system. How does it work? Is it better? Worse? How much will it cost?
Thats why theyre called "rumors", and that is what Screamscape is.

Looks pretty simple, but I think a lot of the general public will have a hard time catching on to the whole system. Especially because they're used to just using a fastpass ticket for an instant ride. I assume these will cost way more than the regular fastpass, but you can use them all day long. I'd rather just wait in line rather than go play games or eat.
I wonder how many of these will fall out of people's pockets while on rides? Sucks for those who put the deposit down on their credit card.
They do cost more, but the more people on one unit, the cheaper the price.
The units have a strap you are supposed to wear. If you drop it and break it, prepare to pay a lot for the qbot.

Q-bots pricing begins with a flat rental fee and a per guest fee. The RENTAL fee applies for each "Q-bot" the GUEST fee applies for each guest. the Q-bot will accommodate up to six guests. if you have more than six guests, you will have to have more than one Q-bot, and the rental fee applies again for the second Q-bot. Prices vary from park to park, season to season, and there may be discounts available. The prices listed here may vary.
Service---------------------Standard Service--------------------Gold Service
Per Guest Fee -----------------$10.00------------------------------ $25.00
Total for ONE guest------------$20.00-------------------------------$50.00
Total for TWO guests ----------$30.00------------------------------$75.00
Total for THREE guests---------$40.00-----------------------------$100.00
Total for FOUR guests ---------$50.00-----------------------------$125.00
Total for FIVE guests-----------$60.00-----------------------------$150.00
Total for SIX guests------------$70.00-----------------------------$175.00
If you lose Quey, or decide to keep him, you have to pay $300 which is agreed by you when you sign the Q-Bot contract.
Standard Service: The Q-bot will allow you to reserve a ride and tell you what time to come back to the ride - eliminating your wait in that line. You will still wait as long as everyone else does, but you will not remain captive in the line - you are free to do other things in the park.
Gold Service: The Q-bot will allow you to reserve a ride and tell you what time to come back to the ride - eliminating your wait in line. You will still have to wait, but you time will be reduced UP TO 75% - discounting the amount of time you wait in between rides. this is best used by groups that have limited time, but want to maximize their stay in the park. Gold Service is limited and may not always be available on some days.

You can even use a season pass! But they will take it until you return the Q-Bot.

They're not switching to this system to just scam money off guests they're doing it because SF corp. has done a lot of research on what is the most effective line management system.
Also charging more isnt "family friendly?" Are you kidding me? Disney is supposively the most "family friendly" company out there yet they are the masters of scamming money out of families. It's a theme park, needs to make a lot of money to stay in business, thats how it works. Sure the park used to charge like $20 for admission, but its not like the cost for parts, cost for labor, cost for entertainment, cost for utilities, cost for insurance, cost for pretty much everything has gone up since then .
They should just do what Disney does and charge twice as much as SFGAm for merch, have long lines to see the charectors (SF has way more charectors walking around), and $70 for admission that doesnt include a waterpark, because thats family friendly!
Sure SFGAm can reduce prices on everything like Mt. Olympus does, they can also run 1 train on everything Mt. Olympus does!
SFGAm's policy bases their prices on what they have. The more rides and entertainment they get the more expensive it will be. This year they got 2 new kiddie areas and a huge stunt show.

Thanks for the info Carlo and zjohn. I still don't really know what to make of it. Is there a limit on how many times you can use it in a day or per ride? If not, seems like a better deal than the old paper system that was $15/for just 4 ride passes. The way I am imagining this will work is say you wanna ride Superman but there's an hour wait in the regular line. You scan the bot at the ride entrance at it will then assign a time for you to come back in about an hour. Then you do whatever until it's your time, then you come back, use the FPass entrance as normal and ride. Then you can move on to the next ride and just do this all day as many times as you want. The gold option is exactly the same except you you don't have wait as long between the time you reserve and actually ride. Am I getting it or am I all wrong? If I'm getting it, this will either be great on super busy days or just a total nightmare on any moderate day that you don't have the extra cash to spring for the bot. I'm curious to see how this will work. Is it officially confirmed that this is really going to happen? I did read it on Screamscape and as someone already mentioned, they are not always accurate.
I visted SFGADV this past summer and used this system, and if it wasnt for this system I wouldn't have been able to acomplish as much as I did. I love this system but I'm not sure I will ever take advantage of it here at my home park. It's good for guests who just have the day to acomplish what they need to do for the one time they go during the season.
Great system though! On a day when El Toro had a 3hr wait i still got to ride it twice along with every other coaster at the park. I did notice alot of people complaining about the system, mostly because they really didn't understand it and wasted their money. If you are going to rent the Q-Bot you have to fully understand it to get your moneys worth.
So since there is going to be be electronic que system at SFGAm does this also mean that the wait times out in front of the line might actually change according to the estimated wait time in the que? and In addition does this mean that the quality of service that the rides will be putting out will be greatly improved by having a greeter at the entrance of each E Ticket Attraciton that can be of help to those guest that might need attention or to be height checked prior to reaching the station.

And…
In addition does this mean that the quality of the service that the guests will receive might greatly improve by having a greeter at the entrance of each E-Ticket Attraction? Can this greeter be of help to those guests that might need attention or be height checked prior to reaching the station?
I post these questions as rhetorical and there most likely won’t be an answer because this is primarily an operation question that can only be answered by the park. I would like to see your responses though.
Hmmm…
What if Six Flags Great America got Greeters and more groupers? Thoughts anyone?

Well, probably not. The system will pretty much work just like the paper tickets did, since you can use your fast passes whenever you want. I don't think waits will change too much, as long as the ratio is kept steady throughout the day.

You do not need a greeter. Plus staffing even on busy days is not enough for an actually greeter at every entrance. The Qbot has a scanning machine by the entrance. All you do is scan the Q-bot whenever you want during the day and then go thru the exit/fastpass line to the second scanner, where there will be an employee, just like before with paper tickets. Remember the way the new Flashpass works is electronic queue, so there wont be congestion at any of the integration points cause the wait times are electronic.
Also SFOG's had the q-bots for awhile now and has always offered them on DejaVu.
Could this mean anything in relation to Great America??....
