The Kennedy assasination, Pearl Harbor are events that took place long ago. There was not a major movie that came out soon afterward those events, but many of years later: JFK, and Tora, Tora, Tora (the first real Pearl Harbor movie).
The major uproar about this movie is the timing. Is 5 years to soon to release a movie like this? I don't think so. I am going to go see it. Its a movie about American heroes.
Now if Michael (the biggest goof in America next to Susan Sarandon) Moore was to make a documentary about the events, I wouldn't waste my money, because I am sure that it would twisted to blame America. This movie seems to be respectful to the families of those lost on that flight, and the fact that Universal is donating the proceeds of the first 3 days that the movie takes in to the Flight 93 memorial.
Time heals all, but sometimes it takes longer than a little under 5 years. I can see where they think it's "unsensitive"
I personally think there shouldn't be a movie about it for a long time yet. Note when I say documentry is different than movie. Because this will be a movie.

If you would have made a movie about Pearl Harbor in 1946 right after the war was over people wouldn't have been too happy about it. You need to show some respect for the dead. Those people on flight 93 died defending their country. I doubt the first thing on their minds was getting put into a movie in a couple of years. Many people who had friends or family involved in the 9/11 attacks may not be over the fact that Osama Bin Laden hasn't been brought to justice yet. I feel this movie shouldn't be made until terrorism and wars are over or quieter than they are now.

This is a historical event, yes it was a tragic event that people will never forget, I know i wont, but to say that trailer is insensitive to people who may of lost people in the attacks is ridiculous.
Never ever in that trailer did i see any scene that was insensitive.
I can see if the families of the men, and women on that flight were the ones screaming insensitive, but their not. The director acually contacted the family members and asked if they thought it was too soon to make the movie. They told him that their loved ones story needed to be told, and they even endorse the movie.
Why is this too soon anyways. This movie is about the American spirit. These brave souls knew what was going to happen to them, and probably knew where they were heading. These men that rushed the cockpit to save hundreds of lives from these scum of the Earth are heros. Why can't we look at this film not about being rushed out "too soon", but simply as a movie about hero's who saved lives, at the cost of their own. These people won the first fight in the war on terror, and they should be celebrated, and honored, and if this movie shows the heroism of these guys, then so be it. These men did more to protect lives in this country than most politicians want to do. God Bless the men, and women of Flight 93. God Bless their families, and loved ones.
I will probably see it opening weekend, and I will feel damn proud knowing that my $10 will be going to the Flight 93 memorial.
I'll disagree with the trailer being insensative. But the idea is very insensitive. To turn a profit on this so soon. The revenue of the first three days of sales will be donated, but thats crap. That one weekend. Personally I feel they should give a percentage of the total revenue. Or they should keep enough to cover the cost, and a little bit more, then donate the rest.

You don't get it Mike. What I'm saying (and these people) is that making the movie in general is insensitive. It's too soon. Now they will probably go and see it anyway to see what it has to say anyway, but they can feel that way if they want to and you calling them ridiculous is completely disrespectful.

I think he means that the situation becoming this big an issue is ridiculous.
While you're totally right w00dland, Galvan was saying that the issue is with the ads, not the movie itself, being insensitive. Both of you stated your case but really neither of your cases have anything to do with each other. Galvan is talking about the trailers, you're talking about the movie itself.
Okay, I voted yes and here's the reason why. For those of us who have close ties with New York, like myself, it is easy to find this movie or at least the trailor a little overwhelming. I'm glad to see that they are making the movie about the flight that went down in Pennsylvania, because it is WAY too early for one about the trade towers. It is a truely heroic story and deserves to be a movie and a good one at that. But here is the problem with the trailers. Some of us have a hard time watching things about the World Trade Center attacks because we were there and have seen the before, present, and after of the attacks. Anytime i see footage, I get a little upset inside and to be sitting in a movie theator eating my popcorn and having a good old time and to suddenly see the images pop up took me by surprise and made me pretty upset. I personally think that they should have some kind of indication of the content first. Because it starts off similar to the preview for Red Eye did. It was all nice and focused on a character and his call home to his kids, but then it turns into this. I don't know, I might attempt to watch the movie, but definitely wasn't ready for the preview when i saw it.
RIP: Trailblazer and Deja Vu...heck, even Alien Encounter
You know, i remember 9/11 like the back of my hand, i have a hard time watching the WTC attacks either,
But, get all insensitive about a freaken movie trailer? come on... People really need to worry about alot of other things then some movie trailer.
Face facts, the world isnt not some little happy place where nothing goes wrong, and you can hide and pretend that nothing happened. This is the real world, where real earth-shattering events happen and happen on a daily basis.
If you cant stand being in the real world, then you need to just hide in a closet so the boogeyman wont get you.
Universal the company that put out the movie is also standing behind there trailers
The only thing I see wrong is the pictures of the Twin Towers. Other than that I see nothing wrong with it. It just makes me sad anytime I think about 9/11.

Maybe i will hide in my closet the rest of my life. People are only frustrated with the preview because it doesn't prepare you enough for the images that they will eventually provide for you. Plus, when your out to enjoy yourself, sometimes it's nice to be warned before things are shown that might ruin that. Play the preview before a torture movie, not something like Benchwarmers (which is what i saw it before most recently). It is the same with the warnings about fright fest, just start the preview with a statement that states something like "what follows is an account of the events that happened on September 11, 2001" and all would be good. Those who are sensitive towards it are forwarned and others will be hardly effected. Not too hard.

I went to see "Thank You For Smoking" and they had a short behind the scenes feature on "United 93". The director talked about how much 9/11 affected him and how he knew he would always want it to be a movie. He also said he didn't think it would be made this soon due to the sensitivity of the subject. But he spoke to the families of those killed on the flight and each of them wanted the movie to be made.
So, I don't know who the trailers are insensitive to.
Also, look out for Oliver Stone's new movie "World Trade Center" .
Every jumbled pile of person has a thinking part that wonders what the part that isn't thinking, isn't thinking of.
i don't really see a problem with it. my only problem with the this movie is didn't they just make one for the A&E channel a few months ago? Do they really need to make another film about it? I think that as long as the families of the victims are fine with the movie being made and stuff, then i think it's fine. If the families are against it, which they aren't because i was watching something today where they said that the director got approval from all of the victims families before he filmed the movie, then i understand it being bad. I don't think it's unsensitive because it's a real story, and america needs to know what happened on 9/11 with that plane. It always seemed like there were many people who talked about the world trade center planes, and the capitol building plane, but this one was left in the dark until the A&E movie, probably because all of those people died. Maybe i'm just going on a rant, but i do want to see this movie, even though i did watch the A&E film. It looked good from the preview i saw on Entertainment Tonight, and I'm interested.
