POTENTIALLY SIGNIFICANT SEVERE WEATHER EPISODE IS BEING FORECAST ACROSS THE MIDWEST AND MID MS VALLEY SUNDAY AND SUNDAY NIGHT
Cities involved would include, Chicago, Saint Louis and Kansas City.
NW-SE ORIENTED BAND OF MAINLY ELEVATED TSTMS IS EXPECTED TO BE ONGOING 02/12Z FROM VICINITY OF THE SURFACE LOW OVER ERN NEB/WRN IA INTO WRN KY AND MIDDLE TN...LARGELY DRIVEN BY WAA ALONG BROAD SWLY LLJ. THIS ACTIVITY WILL LIKELY CONTINUE THROUGH THE PERIOD AHEAD OF RETREATING WARM FRONT INTO THE GREAT LAKES WITH THE STRONGEST STORMS CAPABLE OF MAINLY LARGE HAIL. IN THE WAKE OF THIS INITIAL ACTIVITY...THE PRESENCE OF STEEP MID-LEVEL LAPSE RATES / 7-8 C/KM / COUPLED WITH BOUNDARY-LAYER DEWPOINTS IN THE LOW TO MID 60S WILL CONTRIBUTE TO A MODERATELY UNSTABLE AIR MASS ACROSS SYSTEM WARM SECTOR WITH MLCAPES INCREASING TO 1500-2500 J/KG FROM SERN SE/CNTRL MO SWWD INTO THE ARKLATEX AND LOWER MS VALLEY. INCREASED FORCING FOR ASCENT AHEAD OF MID-LEVEL TROUGH AND EXIT REGIONS OF ACCOMPANYING JET STREAKS WILL CONTRIBUTE TO RAPID SURFACE-BASED TSTM DEVELOPMENT BY EARLY TO MID AFTERNOON FROM NEAR SURFACE LOW OVER WRN OR CNTRL IA SWD ALONG COLD FRONT INTO MO. ADDITIONAL SURFACE-BASED STORMS WILL ALSO BE POSSIBLE AT THIS TIME ALONG WARM FRONT. FORECAST SOUNDINGS INDICATE A POTENT COMBINATION OF INSTABILITY AND VERTICAL SHEAR ACROSS MODERATE RISK AREA...WHICH SHOULD SUPPORT INTENSE SUPERCELL DEVELOPMENT WITH THE POTENTIAL FOR A FEW STRONG TORNADOES IN ADDITION TO VERY LARGE...DESTRUCTIVE HAIL AND DAMAGING WINDS. WITH TIME...STORMS MAY EVOLVE INTO BOWING LINE SEGMENTS OR A MESOSCALE LEWP STRUCTURE WITH CORRIDORS OF DAMAGING WINDS POSSIBLE EWD ACROSS THE OH VALLEY SUNDAY NIGHT.
For those of you who are going to SFSTL this weekend, pay close attention to the weather in the area for repidly changing weather conditions.
A NOAA approved Weather Radio is a great idea to have either in the car or with you as you travel.
Special Annoucement for JamesB: I used a computer to get this information but I have also made my own forecast.
I hate living in Will county. Every time a watch/warning is issued, we have to wait in anxiousness for all the other counties cause they announce the watches in Alphabetical order.
OTHER LOCATIONS IN THE WARNING INCLUDE...THAYER...AUBURN...SHERMAN... ROCHESTER...BERRY...RIVERTON AND DAWSON.
THIS IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION. THIS TORNADO IS CAPABLE OF PRODUCING GREAT DESTRUCTION. TAKE COVER IMMEDIATELY. ACT QUICKLY! YOUR LIFE MAY DEPEND ON IT.
REPORT ANY SEVERE WEATHER OR DAMAGE TO YOUR LOCAL EMERGENCY MANAGER...OR THE NEAREST LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCY...FOR RELAY TO THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE.
AT 558 PM CDT...NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR AND STORM SPOTTERS WERE TRACKING A LARGE AND EXTREMELY DANGEROUS TORNADO. THIS TORNADO WAS LOCATED NEAR THE WEST SIDE OF SPRINGFIELD...AND ANOTEHR TORNADO ON THE GROUND NEAR CHATHAM...BOTH WERE MOVING NORTHEAST AT 40 MPH.
Around 6:30ish, here in Peoria, we were struck hard. We had a tornado
warning lasting until 7:00pm. I was at church during this, someone
came to get me, I went outside, and saw the front edge of the storm
rotating Counter-clockwise and sirens blaring.
No hail, no wind, temp dropped about 20 degrees in just minutes, but
man, the sky was dark, green and the lightning was intense. Ofcourse
I stayed outside to monitor the situation.
After canceling the rest of church activities, I drove a different way home
that would put me behind the storm to see if anything was forming, but
other than a spectacular sunset scene with dark clouds and lightning,
no Wall Clouds were spoted, by the time I reached that point.

We got hit again. Tornado spotted near intersection of Koke Mill Rd. & Wabash Ave. Sounds like the damn thing took out lines that were less than 3 weeks old, but I won't know for sure till I get to work tommorow. Significantly less damage to Springfield this time. Our west side Lowe's store had a fire start in one of its HVAC units. 2100 customers without power, Utility had it down to less than 700 by 7:30pm. Individual reported a 1200lb boat was lifted into the side of a house near Chatham Rd. & Wabash Ave., but I haven't heard anything else to confirm that, and it is outside of the path of known Tornadoes.
Riverton, IL suffered some flipped mobile homes. I did hear reports of a large tornado being tracked near Sullivan, IL, but I have not heard any damage from that area. West side of Taylorville, IL took some damage from what I have heard.
