Sunkist to Be 'Official Fresh Fruit' of Six Flags

Announcements & News From The Homepage
Postby RagingBullFan on Tue Feb 21, 2006 10:45 am
Six Flags and Sunkist Growers announced today a new advertising and promotional relationship that highlights their mutual commitment to providing a variety of healthy food choices to the millions of active families that visit Six Flags theme parks each year.

Under the agreement, Sunkist will become the "Official Fresh Fruit" of Six Flags and the exclusive fresh fruit provider within the park environment. The companies will also collaborate on sampling opportunities and consumer retail offers including the addition of Sunkist Fun Fruits to Six Flags Kids Meals, and discounts for Six Flags guests. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

"We've made a commitment to our guests to improving the entire guest experience at Six Flags parks, and that means providing them with a wide range of choices, from rides to shows to food and refreshments," said Mark Shapiro, Six Flags President and CEO. "We know that when families visit our parks they want healthy choices as well, including fruit snacks their kids will love. We're pleased that Sunkist fresh fruit will be one of our in-park selections."

"Six Flags draws in millions of families each summer and we're pleased that the nutrition and great taste of Sunkist fresh fruit will now be part of the excitement," said Robert Verloop, Vice President of Marketing, Sunkist Growers. "As the Official Fresh Fruit of Six Flags, we're looking forward to making it easy and fun for families to pick healthy snacks when they are on- the-go."

It's about time. Disney has been providing fruit for a long time, and their stands are always popular. Whole fruit (apples and pears) is around a dollar apiece, fresh fruit bowls (watermelon, grapes, mixed) is two to three dollars. Parents are more willing to buy fresh fruit for their kids as an afternoon snack than fork over six bucks for a fatty funnelcake. Sure it's tasty, but you can't go all day on greasy burgers, nachos, and cotton candy. I suspect we'll be seeing Sunkist juices offered as well.

Well remember that the official soda contract is with Coca-Cola. So there will be no Sunkist Orange soda. Coke will object heavily to that.

This is very good. I like that maybe I can get fresh fruit in the park.

Possibly of their juices, but that'd be about it. I can't imagine them handing out actual fruit, it'd be too expensive and hard to keep sanitary.
