SFGAm .. The Beginning

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.
Postby chiatrain on May 29th, 2003, 7:06 am
This Season marks the 28th year of operation for Great America in Gurnee and California. Today, May 29th, is Great America's anniversary, with both parks opening on May 29th, 1976. That was the beginning of what many of us here have come to enjoy, Great America.

Yay, two years to our 30th anniversary... Who knows, maybe that's when we'll see something new and exciting. :D

That's a thought, but SFGAm didn't get a major attraction for it's Silver Anniversary a few years ago.

Both parks didn't open the same day, I think they were a month apart, not sure, but both did open in 1976.

At Coaster Buzz on the roller coaster rollback it says that both parks opened 5-29-1976.

I'm fairly certain they opened different dates. Maybe California had an earlier soft opening, and the grand opening was then.

You guys just got a B&M flyer, you have so many things that are new and exciting! Well, they were at the time, but nothing stays new forever. You should be happy with what you have!

B&M may or may not have a 4D, but that park in Spain more than likely isn't getting one. I doubt anyone is for years. I saw an article about a B&M 4D, it was spanish. Plus, it was on a not exactly reliable (or unreliable, just no reputation at all) website.

T_Biggs you are correct the one in California opened at a different time. Ours was in May and Cali's was in April 1976.
It's not how high or how fast you build the roller coaster it's how smooth you build it!

hey...maybe we will get 3 new rides,.....that could be the reason why they decided to start that preferred parking(maybe to raise money for it) but its a long stretch!
