American Eagle retracking better or worse?

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.
Postby NoUseForAName on May 7th, 2003, 5:48 pm
I was wondering what others thought of the retracking of AE. Personally I thought it sucked. Towards the end of fright fest AE was hauling down that helix because the trims before the helix were off. I don't see the reason why they even need the trims up there in the first place. On May 4th I was hoping that the retracking was gonna make AE fly down that helix but it was the exact opposite. The first trims were on full blast and as you SLOWY slope down you hit this brand new trim. I thought the train was even gonna make it up that hill it was going so slow. Also (on the red side) it felt like the cars were constantly "hunting" the whole time down the helix. Maybe it was just that ride but is was really rough and bouncy down the helix the whole time for me.

I think they went a little overboard on the trim brakes. It would be a better ride without them.

I did think the trims were a little harsh... But, I thought the retracking was OK... I don't know, I guess I don't have much of a preference.

They did a good job on the retracking. All it needs is some blue paint.

They like to play with the trim brakes early in the season. Give it some time and they'll loosen up.

They definatly went overboard with the trims but it is alot smoother and faster!!!! They probably have to have the trims otherwise it would pull to many G's

I dont know if this will get modded (I hope it wont), but here is a picture of the new helix from AE Blue.http://members.aol.com/crabtreesbus/SFGAm/helix.gifI really dont like the trim in the helix, and I think it would be okay to lessen the pressure a bit. I liked it last year when they were running little to no trim going into the helix. I did notice (at least on Physics Day) that they were not running any brakes into the last little helix before the station brake run. The lat. G's were so strong that I was thrown over to the left side of the car and couldn't pull myself back. My friends noticed that it seemed to be running fast at the end too.The tracking is okay. It is very smooth, but I also like getting thrown around on AE. It doesnt look so hot with the brown wood on the white structure, but I'm sure it will get painted soon.

when I went (last year, blue side BACKWARDS) it seemed ALOT faster on the helix and some other parts as well towards the end of the ride. But I don't know for sure what it will be like this year. :?

I sure hope this retracking is as good as the one at SFWoA on Raging Wolf Bobs, they did an outstanding job retracking this old pile of lumber!

Darn, are the trims still really totally all out stopping the train at the top of the helix?

Yesterday when I went on it the trim brake hardly worked. So I had a great ride on it.

its really a lot smoother in the helix, and in my opinion i think it seems faster in the helix and it makes the ride so much better! :)

Nice, those trim brakes kill the ride. Glad to hear they aren't so violent.

Yeah it does kill the ride. I dont remember who it was but this guy from a coaster newsletter went to GAm and wrote reviews about all of the coasters. He said AE was good until you hit the trim brakes. He also said that it ruined a classic coaster.

Maybe GAm for once took note of this man and that's why they aren't full blast this year... or maybe it's just because the coaster is retracked. They both would make perfect sense, but the park doesn't listen to individuals too much.
