Now look at CF, do they even remember they have parks in Cali? Knott's has got a coaster ever under CF ownership. CA G-Am has 1. WoF got 1. KD? 1 plus a relo. LOL what's a ValleyFair/Michigan's Adventure. Geauga Lake? Couldn't wait to strip it for parts. The only Paramount Parks to get Carowinds got 2 and a relo. KI has gotten 3 and CP has gotten 3 plus whatever may happen to Mean Streak.

You people are hilarious in that you just can't admit that SF does the exact same thing as CF. Some parks get a lot more than others. Only in your minds is SF great in equal distribution and CF horrible. Of course since GAm has been one of the prime beneficiaries of SF inequality not only do people here pretend it doesn't exist, but they are fine with it, but also try to falsely claim CF is worse in its inequality.
I openly acknowledged there's the same thing. Bigger parks get more.
But SF has more parks that have gotten a coaster in the last 5 years than CF. SF also gives more to the highest visited parks.
Knott's is the highest attended CF park and has gotten a new thrill ride since 2001. Can you imagine if we said the same thing about MM? CW is the highest attended seasonal CF park and has gotten a B&M hyper, giga and indoor dark ride coaster. Currently just about every CF park over the last two years got refurbed carnie rides from Europe. Not even NEW rides. It's obvious that CF favors Cedar Point over all others. Can you really say that SF favors one specific park over the rest of the entire chain?

I think you mean 2002 with Xcellerator although one could argue 2004 with Silver Bullet. And the refurbished carny rides were this year, Not last year.

An extremely well-rounded lineup if you ask me. Sure, the larger parks got some larger additions, but those parks have more competition. MM and DK have all of California to compete with, NE and GAdv have the East Coast parks, GAm has Kings Island and Cedar Point, etc. Also, all SF parks have(or will have) VR.
Onto Cedar (un)Fair: -Cedar Point: 2017: Cedar Point Shores water park expansion plus Hotel Breakers expansion. 2016: Valravn B&M Dive Coaster plus VR on Iron Dragon. 2015: Rougarou, B&M Floorless conversion of Mantis, plus Hotel Breakers renovation. 1 new coaster, 2 new hotel additions, and 1 new water park addition. -Dorney Park: 2017: Dodgem and Kaleidoscope(Troika). 2016: Nothing noteworthy. 2015: Cedar Creek Flyers(Larson Flying Scooters). 3 family-based flats.
-Knott's Berry Farm: 2017: The Wedge and Shore Break, 2 new slide complexes. 2016: Revamped Ghostrider and Ghost Town. 2015: Voyage to the Iron Reef, Triotech Dark Ride. 1 new dark ride, 2 new water park additions.

-Valleyfair: 2017: North Star, Funtime Starflyer. 2016: Flying Eagles, Larson Flying Scooters. 2015: Soak City Expansion: Breakers Pipelines, and Breakers Plunge. 1 Thrilling flat, 1 family flat, and 2 new water park additions.
-Michigan's Adventure: 2017: Kiddie splash pad. 2016: Petting Zoo(lol) 2015: I doubt anything really. 1 new Water park addition.
Both companies have their pros and cons. Six Flags is a lot more even when it comes to capital investments at different parks, having 10 of their 13 parks getting at least 1 major capital investment in the past few years(or 77%). But when they do get a capital investment, it's usually something that already exists, or is relatively cheap. As for Cedar Fair, they tend to go bigger and better for their capital investments by getting a massive roller coaster put in at one of their parks. However, this limits it to 1 coaster a year, leaving only 3 new coasters in the chain in the past 3 years. And with that, the smaller parks are even more neglected than Six Flags' counterparts. Great Escape got a new thrill ride plus 2 different water park additions, whereas Michigan's Adventure only got a kiddie splash pad and a petting zoo in the past 3 years. Very sad.
So really, unless your home park is one of Cedar Fair's 'Top [strike]5[/strike] [strike]4[/strike] 3', then Six Flags is better both business-wise, and in consistency.
Well that took about 3 hours out of my life. Hopefully someone finds it useful.
Yes thank you Stick, very helpful. Let's also not undervalue Six Flags installations of new alternate position coasters and innovative sitting coasters, particularly for our park. Six Flags installed the first ever RMCs and 2nd topper track(Goliath), the first Arrow 4D and S&S free spins and the only Intamin Zacspin in the US, the first announced B&M wing for US(X-Flight), and the Premier LSM launch coasters. Ever since 1992 with Batman and especially since 2001 with X/X2, Six Flags has led the way in coaster innovation on par with Cedar Fair, and often surpassing them.

The interpretation of the list was let's say interesting ans purely SF biased. The 2011 to present analysis of SF given earlier tells the actual story on SF. As I said before people pretend that CF is worse b/c they are at a park GAm that has been a beneficiary from the SF inequality. Btw, the 5th CF park has gotten better stuff than the top of SF. The fact is 4D's are a family "coaster" SF pretends is a thrill ride. S&S markets it on their site as a family coaster. Justice league another ride that appeals to kids, not a thrill ride. Btw, the "only 3 coasters" in 3 years by CF, are all great coasters, better than anything SF has got and will get b/c they don't believe in building big coasters. SF has essentially got it's customer base resigned to the fact that no big coasters are coming, so they get ecstatic over a family coaster, a 4D.
Except the list was overall park investments not "high end thrills".
And of course there's going to be a bias on this board. It's a board for an SF park. Go to KI Central and guess what? They'll be biased to Cedar Fair. That's how it works.
From 2011-2016 SF has added 1 Premier, 7 RMCs and 1 B&M in 7 parks. MM and G-Am got more than one high thrill ride in the timespan.
In that same time period CF has added 5 B&Ms in 4 parks. Cedar Point was the only park to get 2 high thrill rides.

That entire post is pretty much subjective reasoning. You might think that the 4Ds are family rides, and that Mystic Timbers is superior, but others(like the GP) might not think so. Sure, Valravn is the bigger addition at Cedar Point and bring in more thrill seekers, but families are the ones that bring in the most money. 4-5 people getting $65 tickets each adds up fairly quickly. And according to your logic, both S&S 4Ds and Justice League rides are family rides. Put those two with Hometown Park, you have yourself 3 family-based years, which brings in more families to the park. Even better, (most) enthusiasts love Justice League, and most everyone here will ride Joker eventually as well, which will bring in enthusiasts as well. If we're still comparing CP to SFGAm, then 2015 was an enthusiast-only year for CP, and a family/kiddie year for SFGAm, 2016 was another enthusiast-based year for CP, and an all-round year for SFGAm, and 2017 is a family year for CP and a more enthusiast year for SFGAm. Cedar Point gets 1 family year, and SFGAm gets 2. Guess who gets more families? Exactly. Six Flags' current system works great for them, so there's no need to add in a giant 15 million dollar B&M for every park if a 7 million Justice League ride works just as well.

He also missed point that the top attended SF parks get the big stuff whereas as the top attended CF parks aren't guaranteed anything as Cedar Point is the #1 priority.

S&S markets 4D's as family coasters, it's on their own site. It's not my opinion, it's from the manufactures. Mystic Timbers is a thrill ride. On your family logic brings more money, look at the financials. CF has the same revenues of 1.2B with about 3.5M less visitors. Those families aren't spending as much as you think, though SF is catering to them.

It's funny how you ignore ignore CF's other coasters besides the 5 B&M's. Btw, 2 of the B&M's are Giga's, something SF has none of ,while CF has 4, 3 since 2010.

What coaster opened between 2011-2016 did I miss? I thought it was just Gatekeeper, Valravn, Banshee, Fury and Leviathan. I'll gladly admit if I wrong. I didn't spend a whole mess of time researching.

Gold Striker, Striker, Coast Rider. Also there were 6 B&M's since you're counting RMC conversions than Rogarou conversion counts along with the 5 ground up new B&M's.

So if you're going to count that then we should count Green Lantern (SFMM), Batman the Ride (SFFT) and Joker (SFGA).
And why would Rougarou count? It's just a new name, paint job and car. Layout, experience, elements and tracks are the same whereas an RMC is completely new tracks, layout, ride elements and experience.

In that same time period CF has added 5 B&Ms in 4 parks. Cedar Point was the only park to get 2 high thrill rides.

Also there were 6 B&M's since you're counting RMC conversions than Rogarou conversion counts along with the 5 ground up new B&M's.[/quote] Coast Rider is a family coaster.
So under your new rules it's
SF - 12 coasters 7 RMCs 1 Intamin 1 Premier 3 S&S
CF - 6 coasters 4 B&M 1 GCI 1 Mack

RMC's are conversion not new coasters and they are just rethemed, repainted trains, etc...The reason SF does them is they are cheap. They don't want to spend on new coasters, thus the low cost conversions and 4D family coasters. When SF starts building Giga's and Dives they can compete with CF. SF strategy high volume and less per customer. It's why they have 3.5 more visitors and the same revenue as CF. It's a strategy that long term will bring low end rides like we have seen for years and more crowded parks.
2016 Valravn--Tallest, biggest, fastest dive 2015 Fury 325-Giga--best coaster in the world 2014--Banshee-Best invert in the world 2013--Gatekeeper-one of best wing coaster in the world 2012--Leviathan--Giga--top 10 coaster in the world

An extremely well-rounded lineup if you ask me. Sure, the larger parks got some larger additions, but those parks have more competition.

You mean CF parks get nothing but CP,,,except Giga's and the best Invert in the world.

0 new coasters, 2 thrilling flats, 11 Family/Kiddie-based attractions, 8 water park-based additions, and 1 new dark ride. Not so spectacular now, is it? Outside of the top 4 parks, Cedar Fair doesn't do too good of a job getting the smaller parks some larger attractions. No new coasters, only 2 thrill rides, 1 dark ride. The rest were mainly slide complexes, Planet Snoopy expansions, and used fairground flat rides. Pretty terrible, actually.
Oh, also, Cedar Fair closed one of their properties. I also forgot to include Gilroy Gardens in the new attraction listings.

Some other CF parks did get coasters, in fact 3, but you didn't bother to look things up.
Guy With A Stick, your hours of work are invaluable. Definitely a great idea to focus on the parks that are not top 4 in their respective chains. bbd claims RMC conversions are not actually new coasters, which is stupid, as with the possible exception of Texas Giant, every RMC conversion has literally removed an old coaster and replaced it with a new coaster that has an entirely different layout and has inversions.
Without RMC, Six Flags would be doing absolutely awful and would likely have only built one high thrill coaster per year if that. But with RMC coasters and RMCs manufacturing the 4Ds, Six Flags has certainly made Discover Kingdom more exciting for guests to return to than CGA for example. If you only want to ride Giga and dive coasters, I suggest you donate $100 million to Six Flags for that express purpose.
Admittedly Great America needs a high speed coaster, but I can guarantee you almost every enthusiast, which is the only group bbd seems to care about, doesn't view lame ass Raging Bull as the main reason to visit our park, but rather our nearly unmatched collection of soon to be 5 thrilling alternate position coasters and our 3 great wooden coasters, one of which is ranked the 8th best coaster overall in the US by Coasterbuzz members.
