When I worked there, in 97, they owned all that empty land on the other side of the freeway, but since there is no way to economically use it, it's probably been sold, or will be sold.

Well what my imagination would hold, is six flags building a very wide tunnel over the interstate, creating enough open area over the interstate were they could have intergrated with the other side to build more theme park.... just a crazy wild idea. but now that hurricane harbor is in the way, scratch that like an itch

They sold that land across the highway a while ago as I.D.O.T. would not allow them to make a tunnel or bridge over I-294. They had plans for an entertainment village which would have included a waterpark and hotel/conference center.

Yep, that was were they were taking about putting Hurricane Harbor on that land, but were fighting I.D.O.T. for the right to put a bridge/tunnel over the tollway.

Screw IDOT, why would they oppose a bridge?
I'm running to Bull on opening day, anyone gets in my way and they'll get trampled.

If they can't do a bridge, then do and underground tunnel.

No, because you'd still have to tear up some of I94 and that would really screw up traffic.

They still weren't cleared for a tunnel either, IDOT said NO BRIDGE....NO TUNNEL.....NO WAY. Besides, even building a DEEP tunnel wouldn't work, it goes back to it not being economically efficient.

Besides, the money from the sale of that land went towards bringing you, the fanatic, Raging Bull, Superman, V2, Deja Vu, and maintaining every single ride in the park without having to gouge us on entrance fees.

Plus, what happens if the tunnel floods? Then half of the park is shut down for weeks!

Actually, tehcnically, SFGAm did not own the land. SF corperate owned it. The money from the land sale went directly to pay off SF debt(along with alot of other pieces of land they sold around the country and the Euro Parks and SFWOA). Money from the land sales is completely seperate from the CapEx budget.

I didn't mean those coasters specifically. I just meant that by selling that land they could afford to buy more rides, by getting out of debt, and whatever. More money brings more rides.
