Newbie Trip to SFGA

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.
Postby Millennium Force 2000 on September 9th, 2005, 9:20 pm
I am taking my first trip up to SFGA this upcoming Friday-Sunday. We will be checking in friday, and checking out saturday. I hope to get to the park on Saturday the 17th at opening, and want to stay till the 8pm closing. On sunday, I hope to do a few things before leaving. I am a coaster lover, so I want to do all the coasters on my visit. I especially want to do Deja Vu since it was closed when I visited Six Flags Magic Mountain earlier this year. I would love it if anyone could give me any advice, hints, or any other kind of information regarding my visit. Again, I hope to get on all the coasters, so I want a game plan. I was also wondering how the crowds will be for this weekend. Thanks! I apologize if this post is in the wrong location, I am new, so if it is if anyone could tell me where to move it to, or move it themselves, it would be greatly appreciated.

Since this is your first trip to GAm, my advice- ride Raging Bull, Row 9. 8)

And if you want to ride Deja Vu, I'd do that first thing when the park opens, when your wait will be the shortest. As for crowds, I've never went this time of year so I can't tell you how good or bad they are.

Thanks low42. As for Deja Vu, is it 178ft, or 198 ft. like the others? I always thought the three Deja Vu's were all the same. Typically, like a nice summer day, how long do the lines for some coasters get?

It's 178ft.

The line length depends on the day. I can't imagine they would be that long this time of year, then again I don't go this late in the year and I never go on weekends so I can't really help ya.

All 3 Déjà Vus are 178ft tall. The good thing is that ours is the only one of the 3 that works. It's been open all season except for a week.
It's green. It's blue. It's all over you! Enjoy your ride on Déjà Vu

^ It does close Spurattically, and usually closes in the slight bit of rain.

Okay, here is my suggested game plan. If your serious about Vu, just head their strait when the park opens. I'd do bull after that. They're fairly close.

If you want to try superman, now would be a good time to do that as well, as lines are never really great on SUF. (Just for future referance the abbrv. is SFGAm, not SFGA, becuase there is another SFGA.)

I'd also suggest hitting Batman in the morning. After that make your way around the park, hitting V2, Wolf, Eagle, Demon, Viper, Whizzer Etc... Insert Flats at random. If you want to ride Cajun, night would probably be the best time to do that.

Thanks for all the info. Two questions I forgot about. I know at CP we have a lot of on ride photo places. Are there any on ride photos with the SFGAm coasters? If so, how much are they? Two, I love to do water rides so I was wondering if they will be open this weekend. The Saturday, Sep. 17th. Again, thanks for your help. Nice site here!

To the tip of the spinning wheels on the top I'm possitive it's about 192 feet, but the riders are only pulled up 178 feet.

^ Viper also has a photo. If i were you, i would ride viper sometime before you leave. It seems that Raging Bull and Viper are the two that everyone seems to be satisfied with. As far as water rides, i got two words for you- Roaring Rapids. Have a nice time.

If you are going to wait for Deja Vu just go all out and wait for front row.. or second row it's almost the same thing. I rode Deja Vu about 20 times in misc rows and then rode it front row for the 1st time this year and was blown away!! Now I if I do Deja Vu I do it front row!!

Have a great time and enjoy the rest of your day at Six Flags Great America

I would suggest row 8b for DejaVu, but that's just me.

Hopefully I can ride Deja Vu twice and do both the front row and the back. I'm sure the front is cool due to the un-ubstructed view, but the back is always nice on impulses/ boomerangs since you go so high up. If I get in a line here right before the park closes, they will still keep the line cycling until everyone has gone right? I know thats how it is at CP, but I wanted to make sure...

Yep, they let everyone stay in line so they get a chance to ride too, if they didn't it would be really unfair. And yes, definitely do ride back and front row on Deja Vu. I think I like the back better. Front row has an amazing view though.

On ride photos are really expensive. It depends on what you get. There are key chains, and about 3 other sizes.

Are the hours for the 17th and 18th 10-7 or 11-7 like this site says? SF website says 10-7, but I know that their website isn't always the most accurate, since SFWoA had many errors on their page. Is 10-7 enough time to do all the coasters, or would it be better to visit once fright fest starts on the 8th of october when they are open later? I know it would probably be more crowded then...

As for getting on all of the coasters is depends on how crowded the park is and if they are all operating. If it's crowded, I suggest buying a fast lane.

What rides does the fast lane apply to? Is it like SFMM where they change everyday?

Not usually when you enter the park there will be signs that say what rides are operating with fastlane.
"There should be a B.O. squad that patrols the city like a "Smell Gestapo". To sniff 'em out, strip 'em down, and wash them with a big, soapy brush..."
"Why is nice bad? What kind of a sick society are we living in when nice is bad?"

ive been to sfgam so many times and know really good tricks. GET THERE EARLY! when you get there early start in the back of park and get all the rides that have long lines in the day done like De Ja Vu and Raging Bull, very rarely Batman. Then when you're coming back to the front go through Home Town Square and buy a fast lane ticket. i would use that definetly for Superman, it always has at least a two hour wait. Then with the remaining punches go on your favorite rides again.

They have:
Giant Drop
Raging Bull
Superman
Batman
Iron Wolf
V2
Roaring Rappids.

There may be more, Someone correct me if I'm wrong. Sometimes they have certain ones open.
