(7/28/05) Another insider has contacted us to confirm the news going around that the Whizzer will be removed to make way for a new coaster next season.
Just wanted to add this to the topic. Yes it is from Screamscape.
This is where I would usually put stuff. Can't think of anything right now... =/
If they took out Ice Mountain Splash (even though I'd much rather see Logger's Run go to the scrap yard), then they'd have room for a decent coaster.
Then they would have to tear them BOTH down because they're so close to each other. I would rather not see these rides go to the scrap yard because they have been in the park since it open.
If they have no room where Splashwater is for a decent standup they could at least put a Power Tower there. It would stand 295 feet because Gurnee village ordinances limit to 298 feet.
R.I.P. Splashwater Falls and Space Shuttle America. Deja Vu, enjoy Idaho.

Maybe they could do that... Remove IMS or LR. We really don't need two flume rides anyways. The only difference is a straight drop and double drop, otherwise they're basically the same.
I agree, LR should be removed. Yukon Territory is also the only area without a major roller coaster. It's actually quite a boring area.. A new coaster sure would liven up the area.
These are pure speculations. I have a feeling Six Flags has something up their sleeves though.
And why is Yukon Territory boring? Because it caters to kids?
Yukon Territory is fine the way it is. Logger's Run to me is the better flume just because of the theming and the double drop is something you usually don't see on a flume ride.
Since they have butchered the Yankee Harbor area and have decided to add a corporate sponsor to replace the name of Yankee Clipper, this is the flume that should go if they were to decide to remove one.
To me, the name Yankee Harbor is all but dead. They removed Tidal Wave, changed the name of Yankee Clipper, got rid of the light tower when V2 went in, created the Gotham City section, and changed the seafood restaurant to Angelo's Pasta even though the restaurant still sports seafood type theming.
I finally retired the Sarah Palin signature because she is now 100% irrelevant.

I think I would diasagree. People are still drawn to new rollercoasters. Good advertising and media coverage and it could draw more people just as superman did. Just hype the 'floorless' part, and people will think it's all new.
Also, I don't believe Yukon Terrirory is most boring. How does a Rollercoaster enhance the terrirory uneless it's directly affecting the theming? A ride is a ride, I really dislike it when people base their opinion on a territory based on rides. Remove Raging Bull and Viper from SW territory and replaced them with say a Delerium and maybe some new flat ride. Would South West territory suck then? Yukon Terrirory has some of the best theming and in my opinion captures the mood perfectly.
Loggers run probably wont be removed anytime soon, they spent a load of $$ last year replacing all the support structure for the trough in the station (a suprisingly huge job).
though I will say 50% of at least one post somewhere in this thread is tentatively scheduled to happen(though not set in stone)

There have been some good points made on both sides of this debate. The truth remains, none of us actually know anything, yet.
As for Whizzer, I'm not saying that it is going anywhere, but don't let the installation of the new Fastlane system fool you into false security. After all, who is to say that, if Whizzer is removed, they won't keep the same station for a new attraction? This was done with Shockwave's building and path, and that is also the case with the new ride that SFGAdv is getting.
As for no signs of construction, if I'm not mistaken, and I'm sure someone will correct me if I am, destruction of SW didn't begin until late August or early Sept., so what makes anyone think that we'd already have to be seeing something? There's a good chance, especially if a ride would be removed, that we would not see anything until at least the end of this month.
Oh yeah, and for the last time people, please stop saying that Whizzer is staying because SFGAM wouldn't want to hear the public outcry. Public outcry had nothing to do with Whizzer still being here. It was just a convenient excuse and a clever spin. Whizzer was saved because there was a near-derailment incident on SW that finally pushed the powers that be, who already wanted it gone, to move it into Whizzer's place on the chopping block. That was why it was saved, period. As much as we'd all like to think different, the park does what it wants/needs/is most cost effective. They don't change major plans because of public outcry!
I'm gonna twist ya, and I'm gonna flip ya. Every time you squeal, I'm just gonna go faster and harder.
I agree.. Yukon does have its strong points. I was just a little tired when I said that.
After hearing Chitown's point about Yankee Harbor, I have to agree. They have taken all the themeing out of that section. All the "water" elements are gone. Who thinks of a harbor if the ride's name is "Ice Mountain Splash"? Tidal Wave is gone.. the lighthouse, etc.
I also am not taking out the possibility of Whizzer being removed.. I just think it won't happen.

Imagine if Viper was removed for a slightly taller version of Delirium and Raging Bull ripped out for a section exclusively dedicated to flats. What would you think of SW then?
Those coasters aren't going anytime soon.

So your trying to say that Yankee might get a revamp? I do agree that there is not really any theming left in that area...but what kind of area would they put in there instead?
clrntsqueak wrote:FParker185, could you give us some hints?
Ummm... what does he know that we dont? Does he work at the park or something(I havent been around for a while)
In any case... I dont think regular employees know about what the park is getting. I think the PR dept and marketing ppl know before anyone else.
That could be a possibility.. Maybe they could make that a movie section or something? Add another movie coaster. I dunno, just a thought.
I have no idea if he works at the park. I just wanted more clarification to what he said.
To further clarify what I was saying earlier about Yukon Territory. It seems each section has a main roller coaster attraction to "attract" people to that area. Yukon Territory mostly attracts children and that's wonderful.. but I was just saying, a new coaster there would also attract a lot of other Guests who like thrills.
Don't get me wrong.. It's nice walking through Yukon when moving onto Yankee Harbor or County Fair.. but nothing really causes you to stay there to enjoy the the themeing.
IF SFI is adding an attraction and their only option is to remove Whizzer I'd rather have them remove a flume ride. Whizzer is my first roller coaster and it is the first for MANY as well. Other than Whizzer, the only other mild coaster is SSR. Whizzer just seems to step little ones up for bigger thrills in the future better than any other coaster in the park. It is also very family friendly. It would also be a SIN to remove it for the 30th anniversary.
I know that I'm going to get some blast back for what I'm
going to say, but I don't care.
As I sit here and read through this whole entire topic, I'm
finding myself getting more and more aggrivated. People
saying it's going, people saying it's staying.
Out of all the posts here, I do agree with this one:

For Those Of You Who Say: Whizzer is BEING Torn Down WHERE'S YOUR SOURCE
Danieln84 is totally correct. Granted, I have heard many
things for the past month about what could happen, and you
know, no one has 100% valid sources about what is or isn't
happening at the park. Even statements such as, "my source
in the PR department says" don't even cut it.
I think that this topic needs to be put to rest. We will find out
soon enough about what is or isn't happening at the park.
For those of you who do say that you know for a fact what is
happening, I guess you have talked to Sevart yourself. You may say,
well, I know someone in PR who has told me. Know what? They
won't give you the 100% honest truth, cause if they release information
that is confidential, they can be fired, so how can you be sure that
their honest with the information that they give you?
Tree Clearing or No Tree Clearing, for me to believe it or not, I have
to see evidence. Unfortunatly I can't go to the park till the end of
the month, so that means I have to see photo evidence that something
is or isn't happening.
There is evidence that Whizzer could be going or could be staying.
People say that the new Fastpass System isn't installed at Whizzer.
Well, 2 theories.
#1: They won't install them, cause they are going to build a new station
for Whizzer.
#2: They won't install them, cause Whizzer is being removed. They
put the Fastpass systems there to fool people that Whizzer is staying.
Why don't we put this to rest, and just see what happens! We'll know
soon enough! And I do have a request for those of you who say you
know for sure what's happening, Unless your Sevart or talked to
Sevart personally, just shut up, cause even you don't know!

I must have missed who said they have a source in the PR dept. Mind telling me who that is? Becuase I seriously doubt they know any of them unless they went to one of the ACEr type events they hosted this past few months.
Besides... Im positive Sevart knows whats going on... He said SFHH was getting a Tornado next year during a tour they gave before the water park opened.
I honestly dont think the PR department would give "false" information. They would rather keep things at "we don't know yet" than "I think we are getting blah blah blah" because they can get in just as much trouble spreading rumors as they can telling the truth.
As for hints, if it's not set in stone, it's no sense to spread info on what may not happen. I'll just say it doesnt involve the removal of any coaster, and doesnt involve the addition of any coaster either. Waterpark is their new baby, it will get a majority of the capital for a while.

This topic is starting to get repetitive and turning into an arguement. I think that everyone should just enjoy the rest of this season, and worry about next season when that time comes. Honestly, everyone just chill out and enjoy the rest of the 2005 season. It will be over before you know it. You will be kicking yourself for worrying more about the 2006 season than the present one. Just have fun.
