I'm posting this here because there hasn't been an official statement from the park yet.
During normal operating hours Tuesday at Six Flags Great America massive power outages struck the park leaving most rides unoperatable.
According to eyewitness reports all the rides other than those in Southwest Territory and Hurricane Harbor were shut down when they lost power, stranding some.
The park has not yet made a statement about the outages or if they plan to close the park at all.

Welcome to the strain of summer heat on an electrical grid. Utility companies have been having all sorts of fun with the early start that the heat got on us this year.
It's the most fun in the park when your laughing in the dark.
Most likely this was a safety trip with Six Flags electrical distribution. If the voltage starts to "brownout" their system is designed to trip to prevent damage to equipment/computers/ motor, etc. on the rides.
It's easier to deal with having to evacuate guests from rides than having damaged components.
What they can do in this instance is turn the master power off to the various rides, turn the main back on, and then cycle the rides through one at a time to get the guests off. It's less of a load on the system that way.
Once they're sure the "grid" is supplying proper voltage to run everything they resume normal operation.
I really liked how the park handeled this with the guests. They gave guests free tickets to come back another day and/or handstamps. It really shows that SFGAm cares and values their guests.
This is where I would usually put stuff. Can't think of anything right now... =/
The Article from ABC 5 news says that they figured out a TEMPORARY FIX but not a permanant fix. do you think there will be a permanant fix by Wednesday, ill be UPSET if they close tomarrow, im going
I just got back from the park, and even at night, (After most of the power failures had occured) it was still noticeable. Every single employee I passed asked me what time it was (Suggesting that Backstage Clocks are screwed up. Right before the parade began all the street lamps in HTS went off! (You couldn't see anything!) Orbit was stuck halfway up, but most of these things were quickly fixed. V2 was down all day long. (But, condor was testing!)

I don't think it will tommarow. I think when they put in a temorary fix they intended it to last for at least a few days to a week while they figure this out. So don't worry about it and just come to the park and have fun. If it does happen again, I'm sure the park will somehow compensate for it like they did today.
GREAT JOB SFGAM!
Coasterdude12-2: DANG! I always miss those. I wanted to see our park on the news and I somehow missed it.

Yeah, umm season pass holders can come whenever they want, and since they probally give the free tickets to everyone they get a free ticket to which they can sell or bring a friend with so actually they are lucky.
well I just got back from the park...it was quite an interesting day, it was extremely hot and a power failure occured...Condor tested, and to my knowledge V2 didnt reopen after the power failure... and there was quite a line at GR after closing.

I have to pay like $15 for gas each time plus tolls. So im losing out on $$$.
Jeez, If ya own a season pass and get a free ticket, before opening one morning sell it to someone for $20 and then go buy fast pass, helping not only yourself but also the person your selling it to by saving them $20 or so!
