Rumor :: Whizzer to be Removed after this season

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.

Whizzer is the only Rollercoaster that remains with this park from the very beggining (1976) I would be sad if they removed that ride. Demon used to be Turn of the Century which featured 2 bunny hops and 2 cork screws. then in 1980 or 81 they took out the bunny hops and put in two loops, put in a lighted tunnel and rethemed it to Demon. but I agree that the removal of Demon would make Great America not feel like Great AMerica. same thing also applies to American Eagle, what is Great America without Eagle?

They're only trimming trees because branches have fallen on the tracks and riders are able to grab leaves and stuff.

One last thing, the unique ride experience can also apply to couples young and old alike. In response to the outrage (which I share) mentioned above, I would suggest that those who think whizzer is a waste of space simply think that because they haven't found out how to appropriately use it with a member of the opposite sex.

LOL! We have a winner. I completely agree.

Before i rant, i have to admit im really dumb, i check this post daily and didnt notice it moved on to 3 pages and im like, how the heck is this post staying in the top 5 without responce.........

Did they EVEN announce that Shockwave was gonna CLOSE? i just remember one day it running and then 3 weeks later, seeing it being dismantelled, if the y dont announce the closing of Whizzer, yes the PEOPLE will be pissed when they notice its demize, but SF could always pull a lie and say its to old or that it failed Safety Inspection, they will get there way. if they say it Failed Inspection. the public would just be like, THATS TO BAD

THIS JUST IN!!!:

"Six Flags Great America located in Gurnee, IL, has announced a 12,000 foot tall rocket coaster called "Giant Organ". It will launch at over 800 mph, makeing it the tallest and fastest coaster in the world. It is going to replace Whizzer, a Shwartzkopf family coaster that was built when the park first opened under Mariotts supervision in 1976. The new coaster will sent riders to 800 mph in less than a second in a stretch of 12 feet. It will pack up to 94 G's on launch, guarenteeing death or massive head explosions. The new ride is set to open in June of the 2006 season, it will be the 13th coaster ar SFGAm"

If only it were true, oh wait, it mostly is! The way Intamin is building coasters, this will happen but next year!

Ok whatever screamscape says about Whizzer leaving is all untrue!!!!! Trust me! Whizzer will be 30 next year there not gonig to take it out when its 29! Maybe next year it will go and six flags will say after 30 years the ride just isnt safe enough! I also think Six flags Great America would have to be crazy not to get a new roller coaster because the land is gonig to be 30! I think they have somthing up there sleave because there not just going to work on Ride improvments!!!

I read through all this thread and i just had to registar and make a post.

I shouldn't be doing this and if they find out I'll get in major trouble, but what the hell.

Next year is gonna be a BIG year for US. Celebrating 30yrs of course we are doing something major in the park. All i can say it B&M, and it will only be the 2nd one of its kind in the U.S.!

Have fun guys :D

Please don't tell us your the lemon drop guy.

Seriously though. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if GA did do something special for its 30th anniversary, but I find it hard to beleive that they would tear down a coaster that has been part of Great America since the beginning. How can you not celebrate GA's 30th anniversary WITHOUT the Whizzer? It would be like celebrating your 30th wedding anniversary without your spouse.

Well, suppose he is true which, I doubt. That B&M would probably be a dive machine. I don't know that SF would bother with one when SF still doesn't have a floorless.

Is there a dive machine in the U.S. now? To be the 2nd of its kind in the U.S. there either has to be one built somewhere, or somebody is getting one next year. If that is what it is, and if this rumor is true.

If this rumor were true, it would have to be a dive machine he is talking about. The only one in the U.S. is Sheikra, which is now operating at Busch Gardens. Obviously, none of us have any idea whether or not this will happen, but it would be fairly cool. I think I'd prefer a floorless, as I'd like to see something with a lot of inversions come back to the park, but the dive machines look pretty cool to me. Now we'll all just have to play the waiting game.

I have to agree. We've known about the Tornado for quite some time. What's with this dive underground stuff? Are you trying to say that the Dive Machine will be placed somewhere in or around HH? I like the thought you're raising, but as Timmy said, you really haven't said anything convincing at this point.

Second of its kind...

Hmm...

I dont thinkhe ever said it is a Dive Machine, all he said is that it will be the second of its kind in the US.

No, he never specifically said it was a dive machine. He did, however, say that it was a B&M, and the only type of B&M that currently has just one brother in the U.S. would be the dive machine (Sheikra). His "A tornado is coming so dive underground" comment also seems to be an awfully big hint toward that end. Is it just me or does that phrase seem very much like something that would be printed on a pamphlet or press release? As someone who works in the press, I think that sounds exactly like the cheese ball stuff that usually accompanies that type of literature. I guess we'll just wait and see.

This is crazier than Tumbleweed.

Let me guess, we'll call it, "Storm Shelter from the Tornado in Hurricane Harbor."

1 out of 3 Dive Machines have inversions. Chances ours wouldnt. Do we want to buy a coaster same height as Bull, shorter, and a straight drop as the gimic? This isn't Rct2!

Your attempts at making me belive this died when I saw it. Trying now makes you look like an even bigger fool.

rct2wizard360,

Crazier than tumbleweed? Nah, I don't think so. For God sake, in that case we were talking about a re-creation of a 4D. At least this rumor talks about the installation of a ride that isn't a prototype. That doesn't mean that anything that this guy says is actually true. I'm just indulging the idea and trying to see how feasible it would be.
