Expand Hurricane Harbor?

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.
Postby StealthNet on June 8th, 2005, 12:01 pm
I went yesterday and Hurricane Harbor was incredibly busy. I left the park at around 3:00, and the line to enter was halfway back to the fountain, since the waterpark was at capacity. And as everyone knows, from the fountain to the park is a long, long way! Sure, it is nice to see it this busy, but at the same time, a lot of guests get frustrated.

I know it is all but certain we are getting a Tornado next year.... However, do you think they should expand Hurricane Harbor given its popularity to increase the max. capacity? Maybe expand into the parking lot that is currently barricaded for construction? If it is reaching capacity with huge lines on a weekday, imagine what the lines will be like in July just to enter Hurricane Harbor... especially on a weekend! If they are not already planning it, I think they should invest some cap ex into Hurricane Harbor for an expansion for next season, with more than 'just' a Tornado...

Let's hear what you think... :D

They won't expand it any more, it would cost too much and they only can use it 1/4 of the year.

It might be open for 1/4 of the year.... but the more people in the park, the more revenue from admissions, food service, lockers, etc. When people have to wait an hour to enter the park on a weekday (again, the wait will be longer on a weekend later in the summer), while the staff working the turnstiles has to count the number of people that leave, it tends to create bad word of mouth.

They really cannot expand anymore into the parking lot since the parking is already in a bad situation. Also, I think that the park should just try to increase the max. capacity since Skull Island is now open.

I know it is done by state law, try to get them in there and try to let them increase it, which is why I said try. But I know that they probably cant, since the state is really strict about those things.

I showed up yesterday and it was crazy how packed it was. I agree they need to expand the place, but that isnt my main concern about it. I go ther all the time and the only thing that really makes me mad about crowd control is the lazy river. There is a freakin line to get into the lazy river. That to me before hurricane harbor opened was unheard of. The reason there is such a huge line to get into the lazy river and only a few people floating around in it is because there arent enough rafts and they want to charge people 10 bucks or whatever to rent a raft. Thats rediculous and in my opinion, the best way to soak up crowds at this point is to buy more rafts.

I rented a raft because there was no way I was going to wait in that line. The lifeguards won't ask you to get off because you rented it yourself. Its $7 for a single tube and $9 for a double tube.

There is a rumor about it. It would be cool if they got one, but for now its a rumor.

If you look back at some of the 2005 construction pictures, you can see the pool in the middle of the park where the grass and sand is now. Plus, the general manager said he wants the 2006 addition to be fully constructed before december I believe.

Yes, if you look at old construction photo's, there is a catch pool in the island which the SOUTH END of the lazy river raps around....now covered with sand, plus you can see the FOOTINGS already in place. I believe someone said that the GM said "I hope to see the 2006 Addition Completely Built before his birthday in December" or something like that

The park in general reaches a capacity of what? 35,000 people? Now think that probably a good 50% of those people are going to want to try the new waterpark this summer and that equal's a problem.
