Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.
Another new update: Great America Scenic Railway & Cajun Cliffhanger are now up, as well as a cool photo of the park's sign from the Marriott days on the front page.

You can tell which park was both favored more by Mariot and which one respscts their herididge more. (I'll give you a hint, it is not in California)
The kids in the pictures look to happy...
Ugh.

I wish we still had a sign like that. I like the old Marriott logo better than the new logo. But times change...

^ Me too, and it is really awesome that Six Flags kept that logo in a few spots... namely the center part of The Orbit, and the logs on Logger's Run still sport the old Great America logo.
I really love looking at all those old pictures. The whole park looks so much bigger to me with the lack of mature trees!
Finally Coaster Season!!

Well, they couldn't really do much about Logger's Run.

That sign is really cool, and the person who took that picture made it seem cooler. It is a very good picture.
Ugh.

Wow!!. Talk about a blast from the past. I remember as a kid riding the train as it went under Turn of the Century's corkscrew, hoping that the coaster would spiral above us. Yukon Yahoo. Dingies. Some fond memories.

We still have that sign, but it isn't lit from behind anymore. It's very capable of being backlit still, but its cheaper to put spots on it.

Anyone else think that those airtime hills would be about 10 times better than the two loops?

The GreatAmericaParks site is way cool! It looks a lot like my old photo album! Anyway, I just wanted to say that White Water Rampage (now Roaring Rapids) was built by Marriott for the 1984 season, which was also the year that the park was sold to Six Flags. I remember that the ownership change was effective on June 1, 1984 and "Rampage" had been open for about a month at that time. That rapids ride has the most ornate loading station of ANY I have ever seen! It is truly illustrative of the Marriott influence. I too liked to original name better, but that's that!
We should all remember to be thankful to have a world-class theme park like Six Flags Great America here in our local area!

I do, because I like airtime more than inversions. But if they had the two hills then they wouldn't have the underground tunnel.

^True. I like airtime more than inversions too. But that tunnel with the lights is my favorite part of the whole ride.

The first drop is good if you're in the back row and the front is good for inversions and the tunnel, so no part of the ride is boring.

A lot of those pictures are from the old site so I wonder why it took him this long to put them up. My favorite pictures are the ones of the old trains. Does anyone know what happened to them?
