B&M Question

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.

It's not in the spine is it? I always heard it was in the supports. I love the roar of a B&M.

^I believe it is a combination of both. I mean most coasters didn't have the kind of support system that B&M does before they started making coasters. Does anyone know if rides built by other companies, with the same spine, do they sound the same?

Giovanola's spine is almost identical to B&M's spine, and it still roars with the different support style.

No, theres anti rollbacks.

I meant if there weren't anti rollbacks, wouldnt the train only fall back down the hill, if the chain snapped?

OMG!!! Grease or little anti rollbacks are not on B&Ms. They havw quieter lift chains then rides like shockwave but not silent because the chain dog that slaps back into the clicks when you go up the lift hill are covered in either polierthine or plastic. they arent bare metal like arrows. And the only B&M that has any special kinda rollback device on its wheels or whatever that makes it slowly go down the hill is the incredible hulk coaster because it has a different kinda lift. Most B&Ms just have a chain dog that looks like the inside of a doorknob and locks into sharp teeth lookin spikes on the track.

No because the chain dog and the spikes on the track that actually create the clippady clap noise as you go up the hill of a roller coaster is a totally separate device from the lift chain. Its not like K'nex screamin serpent where the chain dog IS the lift chain.

^^Let me rephrase everything in the above post before we go quoting insane^^

sixflagsguy5 asked"Wouldn't the train only go back down the lift if the chain snapped."

I (twixmix0303) said that the motor can manually be turned (revved, I think) in either direction. I said the weight of the train would be able to do that. However, what I did not say, is that the anti-rollbacks would prevent that.

sixflagsguy5 then said "I meant if there weren't anti rollbacks, wouldnt the train only fall back down the hill, if the chain snapped?"

sixflagsguy5: as I said before, the motor can manually be turned (revved, I think) in either direction, and the weight of the train would be able to do that.

da rcman2001 then said, to put it shortly, no, because there are anti-rollbacks, completely separate from the lift chain

da rcman2001: sixflagsguy5 wanted to know if the train could go back down the lift hill if there weren't anti-rollbacks, and you just said that there anti-rollbacks and explained what they are.

So, basically, the train can go down the lift hill anytime the motor is not running. This is, of course, not true, because the anti-rollbacks prevent that from happening.

Hope this helps :)
