Iron Wolf: A work of art or a hunk of junk?

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.
Postby Do I Know You on March 29th, 2003, 12:50 pm
After reading some reviews of Iron Wolf on other websites, with scores ranging from 1/10 to 10/10, I thought this would be a good debate topic.Personally, I think that Iron Wolf is a great ride. If you keep a straight neck, weigh the seat down a bit, and ride near the front, you'll see what a great ride this is. Sure, it's not a 10 inversion monster or as faster than the speed of sound, but you get a great ride from it. Also, when I rode it before I was a coaster enthusiast(meaning I didn't know the correct way to ride), I still had a lot of fun on it.

I'm not particularly a fan of standups but I thought it offered a decent ride. I personally like Mantis more at CP.

I love Iron Wolf! The only reason it would be a hunk of junk is because of the colors. They match the theme they just make it look dirty.

I like Iron Wolf in every way. It's an awesome ride, and standing up just has this great feeling to it! When I went there in June of 2001, my brother told me that Iron Wolf was a standup and that it was fun and he wanted me to go on it. I said I would never go on it because of having to stand up. But on our next trip there, when I rode Shockwave for the first time (I wasn't too scared to ride it), after the ride, I was so ready for Iron Wolf for some odd reason. I'm just glad I rode it and I love it. I would never dislike any coaster.

I think Irow Wolf is a great ride, there is only really one rough spot on the ride and if your not paying attention it could be a knock out shot....which could cause the difference in opinions with people. The rough spot im talking to is right after the corkscrew, if you lean into the harness though you won't smack your head at all.

I think this is a great coaster. Although it can be a bit rough (i've been banged around a bit after the corkscrew too). Im not a big fan of the colors (would grey suit this coaster better?), but I do love the layout. I think lots of people dont like it because they use the seat improperly. I know the seat has been locked a bit too low for me sometimes. Other than the rough spot and the color, I love this ride.

I really like Iron Wolf, because if you sit (stand) on the outside seats, it feels like your not even on the track... It's like you're hanging over the track (which really you are).

I think grey would be awesome. I can just picture it being grey and it looks better than the colors it has now. The current colors are fine though, I like them.

I think that Iron Wolf is a great ride. It can be rough, but as long as you don't space out or have a neck as strong as a cooked noodle, you should be fine. I think the seats are fine as long as you use them right.

Changing its colors should be a sin. Anyways, it seems like everyone here likes it. If you ask me, its one of the best coasters there. in my opinion, it's my favorite steel coaster there, with the 3 inverted close behind in no particular order.

I love Iron Wolf. Everytime I go there, my friends allways get mad at me cause they think it's a crap ride. I love the intensity, which is really rare on B&M's these days. It's very compact and quick and that's what I love about. Sure it can be rough, but deal with it, we're coaster enthusiasts, not Ferris Wheel enthusiasts.

I'm not a huge fan of the colors. They are kind of boring for me. Also, they are kind of on the dull side, I don't know why it comes off like that to me but it does.

Thats why I like the colors, they are dull, and worn looking. Fits the ride perfectly, how often do you see nice looking iron? Usuaully its rusted, and Iron Wolf looks like a rusted old hunk of metal in the forest. Thats why changing it's colors would be a sin, it would take away the tiny bit of themeing it has (it's color and the train logo and sign are it's themeing  )

While we're talking about repainting coasters, I noticed that Gam doesn't really have the most interesting-colored coasters. Yeah, some are, but then there's the three all black ones (or close to black at least)--Demon, Batman, and Whizzer. It would be cool to get one repainted or something, but like it's been said, it would be losing original theming. I think Iron Wolf schould be left the color it is, but maybe repainted or something.

Didn't Whizzer used to be a different color awhile ago?

Yeah I do think Batman is good black. I don't know about the Whizzer if it used to be a different color, but I know the Demon used to be white.

Turn of the Century was white, I think Demon originally had red rails, but it was always black. Whizzer, unless they just painted it this year, has been green since at least 1991. I know a long time ago it was grey (I think it was just unpainted, but I don't know for sure.) Batman, contrary to popular belief, is not black, but a very very dark midnight blue. It's next to impossible to tell unless you stare at it from a distance of like 2 feet or less.

Turn of the Century, Demon: same thing. And yeah I've heard that Batman was not actually black, and Whizzer was a dark green, but they look a lot like they are black, so that's why I said that. Anyways, it doesn't really matter what color they technically are, it still seems like we have 3 black coasters.

I like the rusted look on Batman at SFGAdv. It really adds to the theme and looks awesome.
