Great America does not have long coasters?

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.
Postby coasterdude12 on May 21st, 2004, 3:18 pm
When compared to PKI and Cedar point's coasters great america's look.. small in size. I think we have some of the shortest rides ever. Look at these estimates for length of rides,

Raging Bull : 5,057 ft
AE both sides 4,650 each
Viper 3,458 ft
whizzer 3,130 ft
Iron wolf 2,900 ft
superman 2,798 ft
Batman 2,700 ft
demon 2,150 ft
Ragin' cajun 1,378 ft
deja vu 1,203 ft
SSR 850ft?
V2 630 ft

I don't know if this has been discussed before,
Mabye I'm wrong, am I?

Does the length of rides really matter, I think it is more of the quality and type of rides that we have that makes the park awesome

Never in my post did I ever say the ride quality wasn't good.
I was only referring to the idea that our coasters may be shorter than others

They are short rides, I cant disagree on that, but to me, length means nothing

It doesn't matter how long any of the rides are. When I'm riding, I'm not thinking "Aw, this is only 5,000 feet long". I'm thinking "YEEEEEEAAAAAAAAHHHH!" or something to that extent.

As far as I am concerned, any coaster over 2,000ft in length is fine for a decent timed ride.

DV and V2 may both be short in length structure wise, but they both have the trains running the circuit more than once so technically those 2 coasters travel over 2,000ft of track.
I finally retired the Sarah Palin signature because she is now 100% irrelevant.

Elements elements elements, it's all that matters.

If I was interested it track length, I'd be riding the Senic Railway all day.

All I care about is the quality and layout of the ride.
This is where I would usually put stuff. Can't think of anything right now... =/

Demon's short to your standards? Demon's the only coaster that is perfect in every way so shortness doesn't matter to me.

Wouldn't you rather have 13 short coasters than 7 long coasters? I'm just saying that sfgam only has a certain amount of space, and money, so they build shorter coasters and more of them, and better ones.

Actually, the length's of SFGAm's coasters are about average in their category, like 5,057 ius about right when compared with other hypers, 2,500-3,500 is about right for most woodies, Eagle is actually one of the longer woodies around, Most Inverts are under around 3500 feet, all Arrow Screws are very short, Demon may be the longest one built :) , so on and so forth.

The only ride at SFGAm I've ever called short (ride time wise) is Condor. Coasters attract people by the elements they contain not if its 2000' long. I could be on V2 for one circuit and say Steel Dragon 2000 sucks. Length dosent matter in my eyes. Its the ride itslef that matters.

Personally i think the rides at GA are pretty long, with the exception of Giant Drop. AE and RB are nearly one mile long in track space, thats alot of fun compacted in a relatively small area.

Yea who cares about the length... I would rather go on V2 than AE.

I definatly agree, if Condor was longer it would make for a better ride.
