New Ride(s) for 2017

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.
Postby coasterinsider on August 15th, 2016, 5:43 pm
I'm still convinced that the it could be a coaster seeing as they are clearing a lot of space, but a flat ride package could be in the works as well.

It's possible that they could be bringing back an old flat again, similar to like what they did with the kiddie rides. They still have the Ameri-Go-Round on site so who knows if that ever decides to make a return.

They still have a bunch of the old antique cars too so maybe they create some epic antique car ride, or a modern version of it as well.

And of course, there is the never ending SkyWhirl rumors that always surface too. Great America can surprise you too.

The Mardi Gras section is slowly crumbling and a S&S FreeSpin wouldn't fit the Mardi Gras theme very well. So a Gotham theme is very possible, from what I hear. Seeing as we already have a Batman ride, I don't it will be called that.

Can you explain to me why we will?

It's all rumors at this point. Almost anything is possible. We won't know anything concrete until something pops up on the planning meeting agenda OR until September 1st.

I meant why somone said this "I don't want the park to get a freespin. But I do think the park is running out of different coaster styles. Especially since Intamin isn't really a possibility to build in the park. "

I'll leave that for them to explain, then.

No American parks are buying their rides anymore due to reliability and design issues (i.e. Maverick partial reprofile, i305 partial reprofile, Shoot the Rapids accident, Skyrush restrains, etc.). B&M and RMC are destroying them right now.

Technically U.S. parks are still buying them, 3 Intamin launched coasters are coming to U.S. parks in 2017.

This. Over the last 15 years Intamins have been plagued by downtime, delayed grand openings, mechanical flaws, design flaws and accidents.

Both Cesar Point and Hersheypark got caught in the Inty circle (much like a roofie circle) in the 00s. The parks buy a ride at a huge premium from Inty, Inty fails to deliver on time, on budget, and experience huge maintenance costs. Inty then tells park "we sawry, we give discount on next ride". Wash, rinse, repeat.

Pretty much the only US Intamin in the last decade to open with little problem was El Toro at Great Adventure. But it came with a $20M price tag for a record breaking wood. For that kind of money I can get an RMC or 2 GCIs. The RMC brings in more crowds than the Inty and the GCI delivers at half the cost of Inty.

TL;DR their woods are too expensive, their steels are unreliable and they * up a log flume.

I was hoping for a teaser today :( It'd be cool to see teasers where you go on a treasure hunt. Each video, there is a different location and they all lead up to the new attraction.

The treasure chest thing is chain wide, it is NOT a teaser of anything specifically coming to our park...

Oh, really? Okay. Well, we will wait to see what design and reliability issues they have, then! lol

Those things really did hurt Intamin in the U.S. though. Their installations are down to basically zero in the last few years here. After Intamin debuted the giga coaster, now parks are buying the B&M version. Launch coasters are being developed my Premiere, Mack, S&S, RMC and B&M at many U.S. parks.

That boat flipping on STR could have been a disaster if not for quick-thinking people in the queue and others uprighting the boat.

It's a teaser (or, really, just a straight confirmation) that they're going to announce new rides on September 1st. But that's all it is, didn't want anybody to waste their time with elaborate theories of treasure chest themed 4D coasters or anything.

So no one is installing Intamin rides as of late? Falcon's Fury, Zumanjaro, and Lex Luther DoD ring any bells?

Luthor was 5 years ago. FF and Zumanjaro are 2. On top of that both FF and Big Z suffered from debated openings with FF missing the entire summer. More reason add to why they didn't install jack in 2015 and 2016

This is why I don't think any Six Flags park will be getting an Intamin for a while.

Yep I was talking about coasters. Their drop towers do seem to be selling well. Didn't they all have some problems though?

By the way can anyone tell me the last Intamin coaster Six Flags bought?
