Official Goliath Thread

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.
Postby CoastsToCoasters on March 17th, 2014, 1:58 am
...the options are kinda limited track/structure wise haha. The brake run & airtime hill need to be finished but have already gone up so If the two ends are complete, all thats left is the middle which would be the lift & zeroG stall. Which is all on one structure practically. So I'm gonna have to go with that ;)

Random: Look how eerie yet pretty Goliath looks at night already.

Honestly, I don't know why people are making a big deal about there being seatbelts. It won't effect anything. Seatbelts or not, the ride will feel the same.

The dive loop is going up pretty fast!
Has RMC begun to track the rest of the ride yet?
Particularly, the sections of the super structure that have already gone up?

Why are they jumping back and fourth from working on the over banked turn and the dive loop? I think they should finish the over banked turn and get that over with then work on the dive loop.

They are trying to get both ends of the ride up and complete as soon as possible?
Are they in some kind of rush to get the whole structure (lift hill included) complete in time for testing?

Speaking of testing, do you think we'll see the ride testing on May 3rd?

EDIT: RMC has three cranes on site!!! Shit, they're really kicking ass and moving! :D

Goliath will more than likely start testing by May. 3rd or sooner. As I mentioned before, the entire ride and the station will all be complete by mid to late April.

Two cranes. A yellow Grove Rough Terrain Crane RT9130 and a white Terex Boom Truck.

They also have two blue Metrolift Genie S-125 boom lifts and atleast one orange JLG boom lift. It is likely you mistook one of the Genies for a crane.

I'm curious to see how they will light this coaster at night, if at all. While Eagle looks cool all light up at night, Viper is a much better ride in the dark. Lights in the tunnel would be pretty cool. That way when you ride at night, you get light for that split second, eyes get all messed up, and then go into the overbank blind.

Although, on onride photo would pretty much do the same thing.

Fun.

A flashing light of some kind in the tunnel? Perhaps, as long as it's not a strobe light or something.
If Goliath is to feature an on-ride photo, then the park will have to pull one away from another coaster or ride.
I think they should use orange lights on this ride at night. I wonder how that would look?

All in favor of Goliath taking TDK's on-ride photo camera

Why would they pull it from another ride? The more photos the more money. Unless the turnover isnt that great... but X-Flight didn't get another ride's camera did it?!

They could just install a new on-ride photo for Goliath.
They don't have to pull one from another ride, unless they have to.

The more photo booths mean the more they need employees to run them. The more employees means more money they're losing due to having to pay the extra employees. While they do have plenty of Kodak photographers, they'll still keep the same amount in front to annoy the guests  .

Now that I think about it, last year when riding Eagle Blue backwards, I spotted a camera on the structure that's supposed to be used for on-ride photo. Perhaps if that one is still available and still functions properly, they could work something out...

How would they lose money if people are buying the photos? They would actually be making money.

The park makes more than enough money as it stands. How do you think they were able to afford Goliath? It's because of all of us and the GP. I'm sure they can afford to pay employees to run a Goliath photo booth.

According to today's newsletter the Pictorium will have a show about the making of Goliath! They will also show all three S&Ds. I think this is a great idea, and I'm so happy to see more park based stuff in Pictorium.

Here are a few from outside of the park around noon 3/20/2014.
Did not trespass to get any of these shots (zoom and cropped images).

Click on the green box upper left for a little clearer image (Thumbnail is a little soft).

Dive Loop rising:

Full width of the ride from Milwaukee Avenue
(Dive Loop rising up far left, small air-time hill center and over banked turn far right)
[V2 and STT background]:

Track rising up on the over banked turnaround

Front the main gate (Grand Ave) there is little to see, so no picks.
Once the lift hill starts rising I will get a shot from there.
Also from across the tollway / Industrial park is not to good either,
so I did not take any shots from there either.

Is Goliath seriously going to be that close to V2's spike?

It seems like the other side always wins on American Eagle :?
Also, I've ridden Goliath 23 times in one day. HBU? :P

No. There will be ample space between Goliath and V2's spike. Camp Cartoon Network will be between them.
