New Ride(s) for 2014

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.

Son of Tidal Wave*

This news came as an unexpected surprise. Good to hear speculation that this is a Premier or Rocky Mountain project as well- since 2002 we've seen 3 coasters that packed some nice forces get moved out in favor of fluff. The next bad Premier coaster I ride will be the first, and Rocky Mountain seem to be the new darlings of the coaster world. I suppose this could still end up being the world's tallest Eurofighter (tallest midget award if there ever was one) but for the time being, it's reassuring that Gerstlauer (or Maurer Sohne, similarly) hasn't been mentioned in any of the speculation. Also a relief to know that American Eagle won't be defaced as was rumored early on.

I've wondered- is there any reason in particular that we haven't seen Six Flags go for another Intamin Prefab wooden coaster? El Toro really is as fantastic as everyone says- is there a reliability/downtime issue? I don't recall hearing about any if there is or was.

That's... actually plausible to an extent, as it'll probably be in the parking lot tomorrow as part of some guy's shiny new Prius.

I can't think of any other adjective to describe the aimless meandering of Superman. Perhaps less applicable to X-Flight, but B&M Wing Coasters aren't exactly known as champions of forces, either. That's fine- they're reliable and they have no problem generating lines.

Hahaha I love describing ride additions as "Fluff." Mostly clones, in my opinion.

Aimless meandering of Superman, thats definitely a new one.

So basically, unless the ride is a remake of Deja Vu or Shockwave, it automatically sucks?

Seriously, I cant stand peoples lame ass opinions of every single solitary thing in this hobby.

We are supposed to enjoy rollercoasters, not critique the hell out of them on the internet and sound like our shit doesn't stink.

Its one think to not like a ride, hell I can't stand Demon, Magnum and thought that Wild Eagle sucks. but to over analyze coasters, and criticize every single thing about them, and to go as far as saying, "Well, this is a clone, so it sucks"

Seriously? maybe a new hobby might suit your unreachable levels of personal satisfaction.

This.

Preach on brother Galvan, you couldn't be more right.

Getting back to business...I, like most of you, think that it will be launched. I think that it makes some sense to a B&M launched seeing as the park and B&M have a great relationship. As far as the records that has me stumped. Perhaps the longest launched? That would be difficult with that spot but if anybody were to do it it certainly would be B&M. Lets not forget if they really wanted to they could build out of wolfs footprint into the employee parking lot and down to the hill where coasters go to die before returning to the station. Given that this could be a fairly large coaster. In any case I am hoping for the best.

I'm pretty sure the neighbors that live right behind that hill may have something to say about that

I was kidding about Hypersonic XLC. Just thinking of 165 feet tall coasters.
I do think it will be a launch coaster.
I do not think it will be an RMC wooden.
I do not think B&M is out of the question. They are a great designer and it's clear they have a great relationship with SFGAm.
Premier is also possible.

No worries. I doubt that the ride is similiar as Superman: Ultimate Flight at SF Discovery Kingdom because that space would be wasted. It's different. It's going to be...I can't tell what type of coaster it is. I found a few clues from the teaser videos.

No worries. We will find it soon. :)

How bout the world record for most new attractions in one season?
Coaster in IW's spot.
Something by the SWA markings
RC is replaced
AE is revamped.
Far fetched I know but it's fun to go out on a limb.

^That wouldn't be a world record anyway. In 2000 Geauga Lake (then Six Flags Ohio) built four roller coasters. Not to mention when a park opens they typically have more than 4 rides open

I think Zac-spin isn't happening yet. I can't help but think there will be one where ragin cajun is in two years. That spot seems to make sense.

Since they kept the IW station, I wonder if the park plans on reusing it for this coaster. However it's very high off the ground. Should be interesting to see.

It would be a shame if they lost it, I think it's a beautiful building to look at.

I'm thinking Premier or B&M launched. Hopefully something with a decent amount of airtime.

It would be pretty cool (IMHO) If B&M designed a launched coaster and still used IW's old station.

Im sure using the station is at least a possibility. Why else would it still be there.

No. No. Just no. That station should absolutely not be reused. It is too narrow which causes people to not be able to get to other rows.

As for why it's still there, that's because it hasn't been in the way of anything, yet. For other examples of delayed removals, see Space Shuttle America and Splashwater Falls pool and queue.

Since the park only requested one height variance, doesn't that mean that the track will only reach over 125ft once? If I remember correctly, I believe Raging Bull had three height variances. I'm unsure about the V2 and Deja VU requests though.

It would be interesting if we did end up getting a launched coaster that has a record-breaking element (or three) and stays low to the ground (like Maverick). I'm a bit of an Intamin fanboy (I love B&M too!), but I doubt that the park will install something like Maverick due to the limited amount of room, however, anything is possible. I'm also pretty interested on B&M's take on a launched ride.

I'm sure Six Flags will install something great nonetheless. I can only guess that it'll go at least 65-70MPH... so we're getting a fast one!

Not a bad observation.

Is there an overhead shot of the IW space that's been posted recently?

In the zoning board meeting for Chang they had to say all the times it goes above 125ft. So I think it is only going above 125 once.
