Well they can take out whatever ride they want if their putting a super hyper mega coaster lol. That is if we even get a ride next year SuperIgnight2 bigger better newer songs yay. It be nice if they announce it earlier or start hyping the new attraction now so we can get rides on the ride their taking out if they even take any out no one knows.
Agreed. A heads up before Labor day on exactly what will be removed would be appreciated. If balance is of any concern to them, I see something in the SE section of the park, rather than over in Southwest Territory.
^^They usually don't care to tell people earlier on in the season because they will get more complaints from people about this or that ride closing.
Just ride what you like because it may be gone. In general, that's life for you. You can talk amusement park, but you can also talk about your favorite store, favorite gas station, favorite restaurant, etc. Nothing is really sacred in the world, so enjoy whatever you do enjoy, as much as you can while they are still around. Think about this. Universal Studios took out Jaws, King Kong, and they are rumored to be taking out ET in a few years.
As I said before, I'm riding Orbit (when it opens again) & Condor more this year because I'm worried about those rides. Who knows though? They could take out the Scrambler because it's in a bad corner & it's low capacity, Ragin Cajun, or East River Crawler because it's been down for so long, etc.. I think the most wasted space in the park is the Southwest Amphitheater. I know they put the Cheerleaders / Band in there, but other than that, there is nothing else. Why not move those people to the picnic grove instead or that other smaller theater (Wilderness)? That Southwest Amphitheater really had in my opinion 2 great stunt shows in there - Batman & The Wild West one, but ever since, they couldn't get things that were great. The Spy stunt show failed, cirque solei people weren't great (okay), and than they had the wild outdoors type of people (on logs).

I agree (Too bad Six Flags couldn't put in a Superman themed show this year) they should either tear down the Rockin' Amphitheater or the Wilderness Theatre. I think we can all live not seeing Aaron Carter or Christy Carlson Romano again.

Don't forget the ultimate Universal removal story, Back To The Future.
As I mentioned in another thread, I don't quite get the hate some folks have for Ragin' Cajun — yes, the line sucks because the capacity sucks, and maybe the maintenance sucks, but the ride is fun, and that doesn't keep a lot of you from wishing Deja Vu was still here (it was admittedly higher thrill, but still). Plus, for all the times we whine and moan about parks installing rides that don't match the theme of the surrounding area, a ride with a New Orleans-style facade named "Cajun" in Mardi Gras, you know, actually makes sense.
But, at the same time, I'm not going to be brokenhearted if I hear it will disappear, the way I know a lot of longtime park goers will be if Demon, Orbit or another older ride has to go (I may somewhat count the Hometown Fun Machine in this realm as well). I might miss Condor some, but again, probably wouldn't be brokenhearted.
I'm still going to pray for no SkyScreamer since I will not take the risk of riding the ride, having it get stuck and then spending 90 minutes trying to calm my panicking girlfriend down 15 feet away and 100+ feet above the ground as she screams through her terrified tears that we should have never ridden the ride after seeing the same thing happen from a distance in our lone trip to Six Flags St. Louis (and read about similar incidents elsewhere) before watching her and I both risk our lives to climb out of a flimsy chair and into a cherry picker. This is a nightmare I don't need to see played out in reality and would prefer to not have a spot in the park that would just become dead to the two of us as a result.
Talk about a launch coaster similar to Full Throttle, though, and you might have my attention ...
For 2014 or 2015. I would like them to take down the Southwest Amphitheater and put in a maverick style ride or a b&m floorless (before you give me crap about the floorless idea, they are very good pack-a-punch thrilling rides. You don't see that that much anymore) and maybe call it "The Stampede" or somthing like that to fit the Southwestern theme.
To this day, I have yet to ride a traditional sit-down decent-sized looper. Basically a Shockwave type coaster (but with better design). SFGAm had Iron Wolf, but it was stand up. We have Batman, but it's inverted. We have Bull, but it doesn't do inversions. We have Superman, but it flies and doesn't exactly follow the format of a traditional looper. We have Demon, but it's a lot smaller and it's an old Arrow with less-than-ideal train design. We have X-Flight, but it's a wing rider.
So, to be honest, I would rate any B&M floorless pretty highly. Basically, given a regular sit-down and a floorless, they're identical except for the floor, so the floorless part isn't so much of a gimmick as a small upgrade.
Something quick, but not out of control, something comfortable, but not too cozy. Perhaps take Batman and Bull, and combine them. Bull's swiftness and easy-going feel, with Batman's quality inversions and smaller body, just what I'm looking for. Maybe 3-4 inversions. 2 traditional loops with 1 or 2 other unique inversions.
Neither Cedar Point nor Six Flags St. Louis has one of these. St. Louis has Ninja, which is a great layout, but once again, Arrow (Vekoma) and old like Demon. Cedar Point has Mantis, but stand-up, and Raptor, but inverted.
I think we're somewhat setting ourselves up for disappointment and/or angst by wanting/asking for another coaster. Let's remember not to think of what WE (or, more specifically, YOU) want but rather what the park needs to better cater to its entire customer base — and remember, that's way more than thrill seekers. It's the coaster enthusiasts who think they're the center of the universe who turn me off to their communities. I prefer the more intelligent discussion.
X-Flight is all of two years old. Before that, we didn't get a major coaster for 10 years. I'd still call the odds of us getting another one soon slim, unless someone's seen something I haven't.
I personally still wouldn't rule out the possibility of The Dark Knight going the way of the dodo and that space getting reutilized as some sort of dark ride or 4D experience of some sort. That's something we haven't had here, and with the popularity of the Scooby Doo ride in St. Louis, something similar but different could be a hit. I've also spotted a pink ribbon on a tower of the flumes. With as much downtime as Yankee Clipper has annually, I wouldn't put it past the park to consider doing away with one or both, which might make a more-modern flume or some other water-ride type of experience a possibility.
But please, don't become 11-year-olds and get all whiny and moany if we don't get a new coaster. I almost feel the need to preemptively, and certainly ineffectively, tell folks to grow up. We're not getting Kingda Ka or Top Thrill Dragster. We're not getting Millenium Force. Consider whether it's what the park needs before you consider whether it's what you want. I personally probably wouldn't ride a dark ride ... but the park could probably use it, so I'd be OK with one being installed.
^^If you really, really want to ride some floorless or sitdown B&M coaster, I would really say to go to Busch Gardens Tampa over another place for Kumba. That ride is just amazing with the type of design you are talking about. The only way I would see another B&M within such a short time is IF the park were to get a used coaster from another Six Flags. And the only coaster that to me is sort of not needed at a Six Flags park is Scream at Magic Mountain. The park has so many looping coasters, and the Scream ride is sort of hidden in a way - not a great part of the park. Though, I really think SFGAm doesn't need another B&M. A park like SFStL or SFOT in my opinion should get another B&M instead in my opinion.

Yeah I've only been to 3 major parks besides Disney, and I would really like to branch out some more. The actual doing part takes a little bit more planning and effort though :P
I don't know if this is off topic or not. This is the last scream and dreams what are the possibly of them putting a 3d movie back in the Pictorium in 2014 ?

I think it's fair for this thread, since it kind of does kind of fit an overarching theme of what's happening next year.
As for whether or not it's a a good idea, though ... meh. 3D as a trend, I think, is dying, save maybe for big movies. Case in point, ESPN canning their 3D channel. And while yes, Avatar and The Great Gatsby were made with 3D in mind, that's a movie theater thing and I don't think Six Flags is going to put together anything better than those pictures.
But, in the absence of SSA, I wouldn't rule out some sort of a more-interactive experience.
^I don't think 3d is dying yet. I don't really care if a movie is in 3d or not because I have seen enough 3d movies that it really doesn't matter to me. I think the reason why espn might be getting rid of 3d is because people are probably not buying the real expensive 3d tvs out there, and thus why have espn in 3d? Plus, 3d to me seems more gimmicky for kids rather than people that are watching sports on tv. Sure, some kids watch sports on tv, but sports on espn is more for an older crowd.
As for Screams & Dreams in 3d, I think it's too expensive for them to make a 3d film on there own. They had that Haunted Castle and Alien Adventure 3d movies awhile back, but they were made by someone else. The Pictorium isn't getting that many people for them to actually make their own 3d movie.
Going back to what the park should have done, and to me they messed up. I think they should have taken out the Pictorium, and kept Theatre Royale, but what can they do now - nothing? In reality, they didn't even need to take out Theatre Royale because the Dark Knight isn't even in the Theatre Royale. They built an additional building. All it is, is holding lines in Theatre Royale, and a preshow video that they don't care about anymore.
The Imax experience is at a lot of theaters now, and it's not very special anymore like it used to be. Six Flags has had a great idea with Screams & Dreams volume 1-3, but what are they going to put in there next?

SFGAm canceled their contract with IMAX a long time ago now. All the projection equipment went back to IMAX. The cost to lease IMAX stuff is way to much for a non revenue producing attraction. There was an article a few months or a year or so ago that a bunch of Museums and being forced to remove their IMAX stuff due to the insanely high cost.
So in short Pictorium will almost certainly never show another IMAX film. Next thing will be large format from another company, another motion sim movie without the motion base like before Screams and Dreams, more in house production or Pictorium will be abandoned much like PGA did with their Pictorium.

In trying to explain why it's not dying, I think you might have just explained why it is dying, but it's neither here nor there -- we agree, 3D in the Pictorium isn't a good idea.

Hopefully not the latter. A stray station that might get reused someday is one thing; a giant building sitting empty and very visible is another, particularly in a part of the park where you had SSA sitting empty for a while.

Will you do me a favor? Please investigate something around the park like ribbons around the trees, dashed line paint on the midway, or others. Please take pictures of these things if you find them and then post here and figure it out. So, this is given a hint of a new ride(s) for 2014.
I know I suck at English, but I'm not perfect though. So, I can't tell what a ride(s) is for 2014. Just wait until next month or Labor Day and worth it.

I snapped a picture of the pink ribbon around the post on the flume support, as well as a few other interesting snapshots (do you know there are pipe organ pipes in JB's?), the last time we went. Unfortunately, I've been dreadfully busy since then, plus, the phone I took the picture on got run over in a busy Milwaukee intersection:
(There's a story behind what happened that involves temporary signage, blocked vision and my bike falling over, but it's not worth telling out of frustration. And I'll go ahead and make the preemptive comment that yes, it does look like one of the phones in the broken phone boxes they have on display in the queues.)
Amazingly, the phone still works and is in the shop getting a new face, though, so hopefully I'll be able to post the picture after I get the phone back.

Just because ribbons are tied to something doesn't mean that's where a new attraction is going to go. Last year there were a few pink ribbons tied to tree branches by the County Fair Train Station. They were tied there because they were doing doing landscaping there and the branches were removed so that they probably didn't hit the train.

You did a good job. I hope you post the picture here when you get your phone back.
Iron Wolf 90-11 wrote:Just because ribbons are tied to something doesn't mean that's where a new attraction is going to go.
I wholeheartedly agree. Freud said "Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar," and sometimes a pink ribbon is just tape or holding something on. This was fairly high up on just one support and looked like it was around one support and perhaps holding on some sort of white pad of some sort.
This conversation reminded me, however, about the glories of Google Plus and how it automatically backs up photos:
It's hard to tell there, but that white pad is being held on by pink ribbon. Could just be some sort of maintenance thing. This is from June 9, so a month ago, and was taken behind Angelo's (the all the pasta they can pile on your plate place).
A couple others, too:
The roof of Superman Coke, visible from Superman's exit ramp.
The Miller Lite clock at JB's was WAY off. It reads 1:04, even though the picture was taken at 12:10. I didn't pay attention long enough to see if it was actually even functional or not.
So ... pipe organ pipes in JB's. What do you folks think? Anyone old enough to remember the Crazy Buffet-Lo remember if they had an organ in there? Maybe leftover artifacts from the monstrous organ at Chicago Stadium? Fascinating to me -- and, if they're functional and there actually is some sort of organ built into the building (I doubt it), I wonder if there's a way they could ever hook it back up to something. Might be cool if there are big baseball and/or hockey games to have organ entertainment during downtimes.
One disappointment at JB's: The pulled pork. OK, this is NOT how pulled pork is supposed to be prepared. The sauce isn't supposed to just be plopped on top of the pork. One flag.
