X-Flight new for 2012

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.

DejaVu2001 wrote:Being inside a large station building has no effect on how much support is needed. The ride supports and track are completely independent from the station building.

One reason why X-Flight has so many station supports is because the Wing Coasters use different track which has a very shallow spine.

Not on topic but this post reminds me of a documentary I seen on Disney's expedition Everest construction. The yeti, mountain, and ride are all on separate systems, so none of them can ever touch each other. This is essentially the same exact thing, and its safe to say this applies to all coasters.

I can see just enough to tell they're working on the next lift support.

Couldn't agree more CstrFan512! I was a little underwhelmed when I first saw the stats of this puppy. Eh, doesn't look too tall, etc... But then that got me thinking - Batman wasn't the tallest, Iron Wolf wasn't the tallest - but bet your @$$ those were two of the most intense rides I've ever been on, anywhere.

However - after seeing a little, construction man walk around, compared to the supports, on the webcam, this beast seems bigger than I anticipated, as well. We've got quite the machine on our hands : )

Is it May yet?

Is that really tall support in the back for the top of the lift or part of the Zero-G-Roll? I think it's for the top of the lift but I can't keep track of what is what anymore.

^ It is the 2nd tallest support. This is the support right as the track inverts for the drop. The tallest support will be right at the crest of the lift.

Man, does that first drop come close to the midway  . I wonder how many no trespassing signs SF will put up around this thing. Most likley every inch of fencing  .

^I didn't even pick that up the first time I saw it. I'm sure they will arranged the path accordingly. Also, we finally get to see how close the drop actually is to Demon's track which you can see off to the right.

So I went by the park on Washington today and that's when I realized: This guy is gonna be tall! The one support for the drop was about as high as the overbanked curve on Raging Bull. 8)

^ If you are referring to the curve over the transfer track, that is 128 feet. I would guess the support you saw is around 115 feet. So yes, close.

That's it alright. X-Flight I would imagine will be ready by May 5, opening day.

The date given at No Coaster Con today was Saturday May 12th, which would be the second weekend. If it does end up being ready earlier, I'm sure they'll open it.

It will receive some water jets. I don't know if it will be like Manta's or actual jets shooting higher up. The ride should be open on May 12th.

I'd imagine its similar if not the same to the water effects Swarm and Raptor have.

Seems like everyone got their undies in a bundle 2-3 weeks ago when GAm updated their events page about the PhysiX Day event which still claims to be May 15th. So those people can all rest a little easier now knowing you'll be on it before some 16-year old high school kid in a physics class.

Glad we got that out of the way!

Of course....the proposed opening day is May 12th. Anything can happen between now and then. We won't know of any specific technical issues of the ride until they actually begin that process later on in the construction process.

I'm still not entirely sure why they are aiming for one week late, but I'm sure if it is done earlier they'll get it open.
