X-Flight new for 2012

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.

As you can see from the webcam (I'm not the one moving it), the default view only shows about half of the footers already in the ground.
(show's over. But the guy had is swung a bit to the right so you could see the rest of the construction area)

And I was just thinking, if Dollywood was in Kentucky and not Tennessee, I would probably have a good chance of convincing my parents to visit my uncle for a day or two and then see Wild Eagle. But 3 hours might be a little too far away; my uncle is in Lexington.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! :D

I wonder how far X-Flight will be by Christmas?

Probably not very far...footers and land clearing most likely. From what I remember, the last B&M to built in the park, Superman, was running and testing in late February or March. I could be wrong about that though, but I know it opened with the park, something that doesn't seem to be in store for X-Flight, which has a tentative opening date of Memorial Day.

X-Flight Progress is already further than superman was at the same time. So it could be ready by opening day. Especially since opening day is probably mid-May.

If my assumption of opening day being May 5 is correct, I think it could possibly be ready by then. :|

"Ready" and "open" are two different things. On SUFs opening day the entrance wasn't finished, it actually wasn't finished until like a month after the ride opened, the station wasn't finished, the walls and railings weren't painted yet. Just about the only thing that was finished was the ride was a complete circut. Not saying thats going to happen with the new coaster as I think they pay more attention to these things now than they did in the Premier day, just saying if we are going to compare timetables :). I wouldnt worry about it yet, you'd be amazed how fast they can build an entire ride if they are really pushing. The big question is if they want it open on opening day or Memorial weekend (with a major coaster I would think opening day because of the huge attendance it would bring in before summer, but you never know).

Also there is no way the park is going to open in mid May, it never opens later than the first weekend of May if not earlier, regardless of weather X Flight is ready or not.

I expect the entire ride including station, line, and on-ride camera to be ready on opening day. A lot of eyes are on SFGAm with it being a new innovative coaster. They know there is a lot of pressure on them to have to make a clean and flawless opening.

Either way im going to camp out or something to make sure im on that coaster the day it opens!

^Like an on-ride photo. It takes your picture while you are riding at a certain part of the course.

Same here! And I fear I will like Wild Eagle more than X-Flight because I would have ridden Wild Eagle first.

(Same case scenario, I rode Griffon before SheiKra and prefer Griffon. But I know many people that prefer SheiKra over Griffon because they rode SheiKra before they rode Griffon)

Confusing, I know :?

I don't know why....but everytime I look at the layout for Dollywood and all the renderings, it just seems that the Wingrider concept was a last minute decision. The elements and "flow" just seem too spaced out for the wingrider concept.

I guess I have a real hard time trying to believe that Dollywood planned that from the get-go and didn't change something in the development stage.

The reason why theres is spread out is because SFGAm and Thrope have limited amount of space while Dollywood has much more land to work with. I prefer it to be compact. A ride that hits you with punch after punch is more intense then going through a loop and riding through the trees. But thats just my opinion.

The elements are actually not spread out at all. It's Loop, Barrel Roll, Immelman and a Roll Over right after one another. I don't know what right layout you're looking at. It's just a different version of a Wingrider compared to ours and Thorpe's.

For some reason my Mac and PC are having trouble viewing the camera now. It worked fine up until late last week. I made sure I had the latest Java too but on my Mac the camera box is just white and on my PC the Java keeps loading.

for the passed couple of days the camera has been down. I've been informed that it is working now and that the camera controls are locked to keep people from fiddling with it.

haha good.

Anyone on Facebook can check out photos of some new track, and 2 shots of the construction site.
While it's probably a good idea that the controls are locked, I think if they set a specific range for where the camera could be moved, it would be cool to see the rest of the construction site (1, lock the zoom; we don't need to see any license plates. 2, lock vertical movement; there's nothing much below the field of view right now. 3, allow very slight horizontal movement to see the whole area, but not so much that you're looking at Eagle)

Oh well, I'm just glad the camera's back up. This weekend felt so looong! :D

So what are those beams with all those coaster looking wheels? Also, how is Dollywood getting Wild Eagle up so fast?

^Those are for the transfer track area. The trains rest on those wheels instead of the track so the wheels don't get a flat spot.

It's also a hell of a lot easier to replace worn wheels when they're dangling than when they're on the rails. Every non-inverted B&M ever made uses this exact system, as far back as Iron Wolf.
