Bugs Bunny National Park Leaving

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.

I'd love to see Sky Whirl come back more than anyone else. However it was scrapped, and the company that made Sky Whirl, Waagner Biro, has moved on from the ride business. INTAMIN was only a ride broker up until the mid 90's, INTAMIN still offer's the ride in their catalog but I imagine it'd be a recreation made up by the INTAMIN contracted factories in the Czech Republic. I would trust the final product about as far as I could throw it.

SERIOUSLY!?!?! AM I THE ONLY ONE WHO WANTS TO SEE SKY WHIRL MAKE A COME BACK? This would be a prime location for it. Kind of shaded area. nice and cool. bring part of Great America back that was lost. Not to mention the ride was an engineering marvel, It was the only triple armed ferris wheel in existence, sure there were doubles but never a triple. Besides this way it wouldn't have the ridiculous loading time that standard ferris wheels have one at a time round round and ride over. This way you can relax, and have a nice long leisurely ride. Mesh the cages in so no one can throw garbage out of it and there you go perfect ride, and put lights on it so it looks amazing at night.

I have doubts that ride even exists anymore....

Actually just did some research, and INTAMIN now contracts with Slovakian company to produce structure/track for their rides. This one even has a website...
http://www.stakotra.sk/stakotra/uk/

looking at their site, there are some sick shots, one good one is a good chunk of TTD's tower laying on it's side at their factory being test fit.

I actually cant believe what I'm seeing and everything has fallen into place, Intamin's record speaks for itself, other things they make.. Zamperla Volares, Maurer Soehne (Rockit), Huss Rides (which they all have huge problems these days), Wicked at Lagoon which was found to have shoddy welding on the main tower during construction, amongst other stuff. This company is single-handedly polluting the Amusement Ride Industry with cheaply made crap :)

Well we now know what is causing these awful quality rides. The question is, how can it be stop? (insert dramatic music)

I don't think it can be stopped. For Huss I knew back in 04 that they went bankrupt and moved production to Hungary which, it turns out is the Stakotra Hungarian facility, due to the fact that Germany has the most stringent safety standards in the world with the TUV and everything made in Germany regardless if it's domestic or for export must meet those standards, which costs a lot of money especially if you're exporting to a country that does not require a TUV certification. So all these companies are basically using Stakotra in order to circumvent those standards, and for non-German companies like Zamperla they must offer a substantial cost savings along with experience they have producing the product, and of course in the end money talks, and so far even with issues with rides, sales don't seem to have gone down at all which is the other side of the money talks equation.

Of course there is also the fact that all of us as outsiders have no way to know (other than Wicked and it's shoddy welding on the main tower), that the problems originate with Stakotra or with the companies designing the rides. A bad design made by even the worlds highest quality fabrication facility is going to have issues. I do personally think though that the Wicked fiasco shed's some light on the kind of quality that they put into their product. Even on their website it sounds kinda like they are defending themselves, "The successful twenty-year existence of STAKOTRA proves that you can find high-quality production in Eastern Europe too."

I guess it is what it is.

That would be nice that area disappears. I remember the slides and jungle gym they had there was closed from the end of 06-10 and now its being removed. Hopefully Six Flags will build something nice :)

I Had an Idea awhile ago to Remove the Wilderness Theater and Part of the Picnic Grove and Expand Camp Cartoon into a New Kids Area.

Do they even ever use that Snowshoe tap house stage? I mean its looks cool on the outside, structural and everything but yeah is it used really rarely? Maybe they should get rid of that?

They Use it, but because it's essentially a Small Indoor Stage. It pales to Grand Music Hall.

Six Flags Great America/Hurricane Harbor wrote:In creating our new water park expansion, Riptide Bay at Hurricane Harbor, we were tasked with relocating our Go Karts to make space for the expansion. After careful consideration we made the decision to relocate the Go Karts to Bugs Bunny National Park in Yukon Territory. 4 smaller rides that were nearing the end of their lifespan were removed. Based upon the available locations for Go Karts, this decision would make the smallest impact on our product and offerings for our guests. Our new free water park expansion will offer several options for children and families, including an activity pool, 5 water slides, a surfing simulator and more. We are proud to continue to be one of the few parks in the country to provide two parks for one price. Our goal is to create a balance of rides and attractions for families and visitors of all ages to enjoy.

Wish they would change the midway back there to the pre-1998 configuration with everything buried in trees and having the creek running down the middle of the (split) midway. Somehow don't see that happening though

I'm glad they have given us official conformation on this new location even though its was pretty obvious this was going to be the new location for the Go-Karts. Now we know for sure that the SWF area is safe for the so called "new coaster" or a better project in the near future.

I don't know if they'll ever make up their minds on what to do with the SWF area...

The Snowshoe Taphouse stage is in Yukon Territory. Its next to Camp Cartoon and that little restaurant that sells those giant turkey legs. Logger's Run is in the same area. The Wilderness theater is in the same area as well as the Mooseburger Lodge where they sells burgers, ribs and chicken. Oooh that sounds good. :)

Has anyone eaten at Mooseburger Lodge? It sounds real good the way its worded. I also have a map of the park hanging on my wall in my room. I took the map home from the park and decided to hang it up along with my other passions. 8)

Especially when SFKK and New Orleans, both closed, with Ferris wheels just sitting there abandoned. I know there are legal issues and Six Flags can not touch any of those rides, but it would be nice.
I never though about the go karts going there, but that is an option too (especially since it is additional revenue for the part).
I go there quite a bit and most every time I was there in 2010, the Bugs Bunny area has a sign saying to visit Wiggles instead. I do not recall ever seeing the little train running either (when walking past) and there was not a worker/or patrons in the station either. The ball house in 2009 was not open and as for 2010 I did not go back there, so I cannot comment if it ever opened last year.
That area reminds me of the old climbing area (before the Little Dipper) where it just said that the attraction would not open today and never opened all the 2009 season. You could see the climbing ropes were gone and other sections and there was not much hope for it. The Helicopter and Busy Bees are from the opening of the park, so 35 years is a lot out of those and multiple move.
I think the Wiggles addition was for them to remove one of the older kids area as the rides get older without offending families.

I went with my family in 2007 or so, I am guessing, and my 2 sons absolutely loved the ball area. It was perhaps their favorite place. the next year it was closed, probably 2008. Tho I could have this wrong by a year. I think the following year, 2009 it was still closed. I also think they made some changes to the ball pit area. Then in 2010 it was open and my sons were excited, but now they were too old and weren't allowed in! I think it was closed for 2 seasons, but it may have been just 1.

It was kinda cool, I went in with my sons when my wife went and did a coaster. I was able to play since I was with my kids. I remember a little girl peeing on the 2nd level and had to tell a worker about it, so they shut it down to clean it up.

I was also upset, cause I had told my kids about the Space Shuttle ride near the entrance to the park, when we went our 1st time (2007?). It was shut down, there was a construction sign perhaps, and I asked about it, was told it would reopen later in the year or next season, can't remember. The next year, it was in the same condition, and was told the same thing. The following year, it was ripped down (partially) and I was told it was permantly closed. I was disappointed my kids couldn't try it, and was not told the truth 2 year earlier.

Which reminds me of the misinformation about the parade. Also in our 1st visit as a family, I wanted my kids to see the parade. So I asked an employee when it was. they said there was no parade until later in the season. I asked a 2nd employee and they didn't know the time or place. A 3rd employee was able to help me.
