What ever happend to Power Dive

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.

I love any amusement park ride. I don't have to get just coasters, I'm a sucker for the flat thrill rides also. I even managed, when it was raining and SFWoA was empty, to ride a Huss Top Spin, Texas Twister, 17 times in a row, without switching seats or having my safety harness unlocked. It was just me and my cousin... pretty crazy, huh?

Hmm... 5 flats in one hour or 1 coaster in one and a half hours, you choose. I like how many you can get on, but you do have to wait for the coasters also.

This ride is still sitting in the parking lot. Why would they just leave it there to rust for so long? I'm guessing they aren't going to put it back up since its probably gotten quite destroyed by the elements over the years of just sitting there. And if they were gonna put it back up they would have indeed kept it in a shed. But why not just scrap it and get it out of the way? Or sell it?

At Great America, the flats don't even warrant 3 times in a row except maybe Rue Le Dodge, or Ricochet for me. If we had Hay Bayler again, I'd probably be riding it for awhile, but we don't anymore.

This is an old topic, and Power Dive really wasn't in my opinion a ride to brag about. It was just an okay ride, but still it's better than the baby toddler ride they got now. Why are they still keeping it? It's probably good for replacement parts for SFOT one just in case that one has problems.

In my opinion, a lot of great flats are at carnivals.

Go to Kane County Fair (July), and get on the Zipper, and Wipeout.
Go to Vernon Hills Festival (July), or Skokie Festival (August), and get on the Zipper, Yo-Yo, Orbiter (called Predator), and Tilt-A-Whirl. Maybe, they will have the Tilt-A-Whirl, and maybe they won't.
Go to Naperville Ribfest (July) or Dupage County Fair (July), and they should have the Music Fest there.
Go to Westmont (July) to get on the Wipeout.
Go to Arlington Heights (4th of July weekend), and get on the Power Surge, and KMG Afterburner (Fuererball).
Go to Lombard (4th of July weekend), and get on the (I believe this is what they have, but not sure) Spider, and Yo-Yo.
Go to Glendale Heights, and get on the 4 rides above in middle of July.

It's rusty and crusty, and home to yellowjacket nests; It would need a ton of rehab to be operational. Little to no chance it will reopen.

For some reason, Intamin AG no longer manufactures Looping Starships (for those who don't know, it's the type of ride that Power Dive is, or was).

Yeah, the company that actually made them for Intamin is long gone, went out of business like 7-8 years ago, that being Giovanola.

^^If you were a park, would you buy one? On the Ride Trade site, listed is a Bounty ride which is basically, your River Rocker, or Pirate Ship. They have one at Kings Island. That's the closest to a Looping Starship. Busch Gardens Tampa has one, and so does SFOT. Also, I think California's Great America has one, or had one.

You go on V2, and you can see Power Diver from there. I think you can see it from the train if you look back around the picnic area. Iron Wolf is another one as someone said.

Add ValleyFair as a park that has the Pirate Ship version.

I can see why it was removed. The female rides over around 18 were complaining of chest pains. Plus it had low ridership on the weekend we were there. Worst line we saw was half the ship filled.

I liked it when I was a kid but when I got older I couldn't ride those things anymore. The thin hard metal OTSRs really do a number on your shoulders when its the only part that is restraining you (The lap bar didn't even touch me). So all my body weight on my shoulders are pressed against metal bars that are about 2 inches in diameter for 20+ seconds.....talk about fun.

Yeah, Power Dive does have a little painful restraints. So, what do they do? They put in another ride with painful restraints. I enjoyed Power Dive better, but it's just nothing to fuss over. It's gone, it's gone. The Hay Bayler in my opinion is more a gem to lose, but that's awhile ago. I just couldn't believe they didn't move it to Southwest Territory, but yeah we had this conversation before about that.

I don't find King Kaos's restraints painful. I'm 6' 6" and when I ride it I can push up with my legs so when the ride is upsidown most of the weight is on the lap bar and not the shoulders.

When I was younger (7 or 8 years old), I loved the Power Dive. One of my favorite memories at SFGA is from when my cousins were visiting from Pennsylvania and the extended family took a trip out to Gurnee. We rode the Power Dive late at night. There was no line, and we ended up in the middle seats where we were facing each other. My cousins were laughing when we were hanging upside down...and I had no idea why...and after the ride they told me that my long hair was standing straight up (or down I guess it would be lol).

Anyways, I went on Power Dive again when I was 19 or 20 and said NEVER NEVER AGAIN. The restraints were a killer on the chest and the legs. Unlocking the restraints was even worse. I was glad they removed the ride!

Its sad to see it back there, a rusting pile of junk...I have pictures from when I was back there last year of the PD remains, I'll see if I can get them available somehow. It'd be crazy if they still had the HB or SW back there. I know they have some of the buckets from SW back there for FF painted black, but it'd be crazy if the other ones and the rest of the ride was still in a building back there, to randomly be re-assembled in like 20 years :-P
On the Iron Wolf lift hill you can see very clearly the Power Dive remains straight ahead and to the right of you. Sit, or rather, stand, in the spot on the front right of the train. Painful ride, but if it interests you, defiantly worth the pain to see the remains.
Idk, I guess it just seems weird to see these old rides in pieces rusting in a parking lot.

Here's a good view of what's left of the ride... and some others. I believe that is Shockwave's station, but I'm not sure, and that's a whole other topic.

power Dive was pretty much the same thing as Jesters Wild Ride except on a much larger scale...

^Umm, not really. Jester's Wild Ride spins. It was more like River Rocker, but it goes upside down, and than you have harnesses over your heads, and lapbars that go into your mid-section plus seatbelts.

I remember going to the park the year Powerdive and Shockwave closed, I was 15 iat the time, I never went on Powerdive but I do remember hearing someone come off saying that the restraints were brutal so I decided to skip it. It looked like fun to ride, wish I could have gone.

shockwave was the best ride they ever had. i remember getting on the powerdive and it started raining and we were stuck on the damn thing because that wheel at the bottom couln't bring the ride al the way into the station so we waited there in the restraints for almost 20mins. while it rained on us.

plus the power dive use to be fun but ridership was at a stand still for the power dive for some time before it was removed
