Official Buccaneer Battle/2009 Attraction Thread

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.

Somehow, after Deja Vu was sold and shipped to Idaho, the area where it once stood seems bigger. I swear every photo I have seen makes the space look huge because I didn't realize you can take a picture of that site from so many angles. I am still flabbergasted they will not be doing anything to the SWF area. At least block the area off so people don't have to be reminded every time they go to the park of nothing being there and being done.

It looks the opposite to me, with out DV it looks smaller, but it looked like a HUGE space with Sky Whirl there

I plan on going to the park at some point this weekend, and if I do, I'll see if I can either get a better picture of that, or write down what that says.

EDIT:

I took a closer look at Jon's photo at
http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj16 ... CN7709.jpg
and if I save it locally, rotate it, and then enlarge it so I can read it, I see it says the following:

Path farthest away from the pond says "Regular"
Next line (middle) says "1 or 2"
Path near the pond, I can't make out.

So, it does look like they may be planning ahead a bit here.

Next time I'm out at the park, I'll try to figure out what the 3rd row says.

That looks like either a handicapped line or a flashpass, because it has no wait.

I didnt talk to him since like beginning of September. And I dont invite him over just for Great America. (ok maybe sometimes) But not all the time!

I saw a video about This battle ride. they have something similar in England. IT looked really corny for 8 years olds and lower. But I can be fine for another 3 years without a new coaster.

They better put something in the SWF area or it will be the ugliest site to see for two seasons in a row. They took out a perfectly fine water ride (You can't have enough of those) and now they don't know what to replace it with. Geniuses.

I think it says flash pass on the bottom of the short wait line. I mean, what else would it be for? I think this ride will be cool to look at. I don't think it will be fun to ride. As I stated before, it will give the park some scenery. I still don't think it was that appropriate of a ride for a seasonal park. Even though we have hot summers, not a lot of people are going to ride it beginning of the season, and it will most likely be closed for fright fest just like all of the other water rides. I just hope Shapiro and the rest of Six Flags finds this to be enough of a family park now.

^^They better^^ I want a REAL addition in 2010. Get rid of one of the oldies and/or cancel all summer concerts cause they don't utilize that space very well anyway. That way you can save some money at least on a nice high thrill ride. I think we can use another flyer to help with the crowds at Superman. We could get great views of the park if they properly plan it out and actually make it fly through cool areas. Superman is ok but the lines are horrible and the thing seems to move pretty slowly sometimes. You wouldn't say it moved over 55MPH. Does it? We could also use another woodie since American Eagle is getting tired and has lost most of its original popularity. Wooden rides are more reliable than steel ones I think. Or for 2010 they should add a real more thrilling water ride something like that Indiana park is getting for 2009. I forgot what it is called. Holiday Park? Yeah, our water rides are cool but old and two are very similar to each other.

Buccaneer Battle shouldn't be classified as a proper water ride. You blast water guns at people...big deal. I say save the SWF area for a better water ride in 2010. Just block it off and take down the old queue lines so it doesn't look so tacky and outdated. They took down the covers that protected you from the sun. They could have taken down the actual steel rods too. make people forget something was every there. The rocks are not that bad but those poles/rods by the lines are easy to take down. And would make it look more cleaned up.

Six Flags wont cancel the summer concerts. They bring the park a huge attendance. I went this year on a random day and Sean Kingston was there, the line to go for parking went all the way to Gran avenue and was about a 15 mintue wait. The frropnt parking lot was full and I had had the parkin pass and had to park in the 2nd lot.

What oldies are you referring to?

Let me get this straight, you think it would be a good idea to invest in another multi million dollar flyer? What are you trying to do, pile more dirt onto the coffin of Six Flags?

Holiday World is the park you were trying to think of.

I mean save money somewhere else in the park by getting rid of high-maintenance rides and stop getting events like Sunday Night Concerts which don't run more than 6 or 7 times then the space is a complete desert. How about finally selling some parks? Moving rides? I wonder if they want to keep adding coasters to Magic Mountain why their attendance has been an issue for so long even with additions like Tatsu. Six Flags keeps spending there and they don't even see desired results. Would Magic Mountain die by not having a new ride every other year? Please. Would Six Flags really suffer by putting in a cheap 8-12 million coaster and getting ride of Wolf, Demon or Whizzer? The answer is no. I wonder how long they will need to add family attractions to really see any sort of ease on their debt. That 2 billion dollar debt will not go away they way they think. Even if they add a new family ride every year. It WON'T suddenly mean Great America has increased attendance enough to help bring down their massive debt issues.

I think he might be thinking of (I am thinking of) taking out Demon. Put a nice B&m there and have a splash down where Splash Water Falls was. Not that bad of an idea but the coaster doesnt have to be as tall as the other b&m dives. (due to lack of room. But I think that this is a good idea. The Buccaneer battle I am fine with.

I said this in another thread, I would be fine without a new coaster for atleast 3 years.

I am fine with 2-4 years. However, their way of thinking is funny and sad at the same time. Let me know the attendance numbers for 2008 when Dark Knight came in and when the 2009 numbers are ready. Will there be a REAL difference in guest attendance/spending by putting in these family attractions every year? Wiggle's World, Dark Knight, Buccaneer Battle I think it is perfectly reasonable to want some thrill ride for 2010/2011.

Yea, every 3-4 years should be a new coaster or like 2 new thrill flats. But Great America should keep on adding family stuff every year to boost the family attendance. They are thinking smart and dumb at the same time.

ANOTHER flyer? We already have one underwhelming one-trick pony of a flyer, and you want to add another one? If line capacity is the issue, then the cheaper alternative would be to build a dual-loading station ala Over Georgia. There's certainly space to do that, you either restructure some of the queue or expand more into parking lot.

Not too mention, there isn't one park in the world with two flying coasters. Now, where I do agree with you is another wooden roller coaster, but where on Earth would one go? The only place I can think of (now that Buccaneer Battle is going in) is where Iron Wolf-Spacely's-Picnic Grove is now.

The new trend in coasters have been cycling around three types, Vertical Drop, Euro Fighter/Fahrenheit style coasters, and Wooden Twister coasters. When the time comes when GAm gets another coaster, it will more than likely be one of these three. But it isn't gonna happen any time soon.

^^^Those GCI woodies seem to make its way to Six Flag's Parks. The other is for other park chains. They can use the area behind Superman with untouched land and it has a little lake over there. I wont be surprised if they build or exand the park over here some how in the brighter future.

nope, cant build there, the people who live like 20 feet from that retention pond would riot if SFGAm even suggested that.

I guess Six Flags could by the houses and yea....i guess they wont build it indoor because they already go the Dark Knight right there. But Ibet they will build there. Just wait 20 years and less.

Thats what I was wondering, if Great America can go over a road or something. I know Over Georgia's Goliath goes over a road.

Bucaneer Battle, I got a question. Why dont they build it where Splash Water Falls was cause they already got all the water pumps there.
