So I was at the park on Friday July 27th and giant drop was finally open! They were only running 3 cars and the line was very short..probaly due to the media of the SFKK accident. I rode it 2 times in a row with me beign one of 3 people on the ride
I really didnt notice anything really differnt. if anything, a faster lift and a longer pause at the top.
But other then that, did they really do much to the ride?
Changes made to Giant Drop are:
- There are now sensors on the cables, to tell operator the condition of the cables.
- The entire Giant Drop Tower is lighted up at night, for employees to see the cables better. (u will notice at night)
- Operator's Control area; the roof is half what is used to be (wooden), and other half is made from fiber glass.
- There is a huge new fan at operator zone to keep operator more concentrated.
- After re makes were done, the operator control area got repainted.
Six Flags Ameirca as the number 1 park at SFI.... this is JOKE!

Now instead of seeing the Lead standing around talking on the ground, you can see that person on the ride not caring about your safety. Order of thumbs.
I like drops like Dr. Doom's Fear Fall and Power Tower better than drops like Giant Drop. But that's only because I like upward launching better. Is anyone else that way?
I like the true freefall that Giant Drops provide over the more controlled S&S rides, though I also like S&S as well.
The best drop ride around that I've ridden is probably the Fabbri MegaDrop with an assisted freefall by means of pnuematic cylinders (sorta like gas springs) at the top of the tower. There is one that travels in Chicago with NAME, formerly Astro. Also the ARM Super Shot is good of which there are lots in the area.

Now that it is open, it's popularity dropped! Do you think that it will close in the near future or it will regain its populartiy? I hope it doesnt close because its the only drop tower ride at gam. If anyone wants to know its usually only a cycle wait on a saturday, and I was talking to the ride op,that told me I have a good tan line on my legs, and she said they close 2-3 carts for the day because there is no point of opening all of them if there are no people in line. Well, I just hope nothing bad happens!
giant drops roof is not made of wood, it was some sort of metal. You can see that when you walk by it. and now the other half is a piece of what looks like plastic that you can no longer see into because they have added something to keep the sun out of the booth. but the operator can still see out. the same material is now on sky trek tower.
