Going to Great America last summer with my mom, dad, cuzin, and aunt..drving down there with the car windows down, and the wind blowing in my face, feeling relaxed, and then having a big rush of enjoyment overpowering me as we pull into great americas parking lot. Then slowly walking towards the front enrance, to anticipate that feeling of entering a whole new world. Running off with cuzin towards Vu, then hitting off every other ride in the park.. and meetting up with my parents and aunt a couple of times..Enjoying every minuet of being together.. and looking at everyones faces twisted in joy. Then ending the day by going to see marvin and the martians 3d. Walking backwards through the parking-lot.. so that I can see everything still running.. like the last hour to the fair that you wanted to stay, but couldn't because parents get tired..but you want to see the beautiful machines with the pretty flourescent colors. Then driving out of the park.. under eagles helix as red train just passes by.
TO ME- That is one of the MOST memorable moments in my life.
http://themeparkcritic.com/scripts/profile/ViewProfile.asp?ViewID=2909 A furious storm once roared `cross the sea, catching ships in its path, helpless to flee. Instead of a certain and watery doom, the winds swept them here to Typhoon Lagoon!
^^ i agree. i was there for one of those. I remember danhockey and i were waiting for logger's run and all of a sudden, the boats just stopped floating...
the summer of 05 was the best summer i've had at the park. It was just a core group of friends and me, and we had so much fun. I remember we used to have water fights and stuff, and it was so much fun.
opening day last year was fun too. It rained, and we marathoned east river crawler in the rain. i remember we tried to invite the flash to ride with us, and he said no.... .
opening day 05 was good too. I remember it was like six or seven girls and dejavu_the_ride. It was funny. Good times, good times.
though this isn't specifically at the park, but after we'd go to the park during the summer of 05, we'd all go out to eat afterwards at like burger king or someplace like that. It was always fun. we'd spend like two hours there until somebody's father called and they had to go.
It was the first year Tidal Wave opened at the park, and as a demanding 10 year old, I really wanted a "I survived the Tidal Wave T-Shirt", but my mom refused to get it for me unless I went on it. She told me "I am not going to buy you that shirt unless you go on it." After much thought as to how bad I really wanted that shirt, I took the plunge, and got my t-shirt. I can't remember how many times my Mom and I rode Tidal Wave that day, but it was alot, and it started me on the path of my love of rollercoasters. My Mom passed away the following year, and until I outgrew that shirt, I always wore it to the park when I went. Without her, I probably would be still scared of coasters.
Second favorite memory - The grand opening in 76
Third favorite memory - Too many younglings here to tell.
If it walks like socialist, quacks like socialist, smells like a socialist, .... it's a socialist. Hope, and change we can believe in.
Does anyone have old memories of the old coasters? I was wondering about Rolling Thunder. Has anyone rode that and was it better than Disaster Transport? Also, why was Gulf Coaster only at GAm for a year? I've heard that something started on fire...
Probably the first day I rode V2, the park was empty cause the light rain and the lines were walk on for everything.
Also awhile back when I rode Batman and Wolf for the first time with my dad right when the park opened. The park was DEAD and we rode BTR soooooo many times... The wierd thing was it was a saturday and the weather was amazing.

Rolling Thunder was basically Disaster Transport with no theming at all. It was a generic coaster. I did not get to ride it.
Gulf Coaster had, among fire issues, many problems that prompted its removal.
Way back in '77 or '78, my parents rode their first (and last) roller coaster. We got them to go on Willard's Whizzer, but my Mom wasn't sitting right. When they hit the brakes at the end, her head snapped back and bloodied my Dad's lip. Needless to say, they haven't been back.
To answer someone else's question, I got to ride Rolling Thunder once....it was a big snore.
The first time I rode Batman. The only coasters I rode before this were Dragon at the carnival, Little Dipper at Kiddieland, and Spacely's, so I was definitely very afraid. I was so damn scared I thought I was gonna pass out. I almost cried, but my brother and my parents kept saying "Go on it, get it over with, it's fun, blah blah." And my parents aren't even brave to go on any coaster. During the ride I screamed so loud I could have lost my voice, lol. I kept my eyes closed so tight too. This was back when it was still black, wow. At the brakes, my eyes were wide with fear and excitement. I was speechless. I had survived, lol. My brother asked how it was, and I said "That was AWESOME!!" Every time I rode it that day, which was 3 more times, I was still scared of it.
Later that day I rode Whizzer. With my brother, eww.
Has anyone noticed that on the official GAm website that Whizzer is listed as Max thrill?
Also, another ride question; I know when Southern Cross was removed, but when was Delta Flyer/Eagle's Flight removed?
I think every vist to Great America is a great memory. Thats what brings people back, not just the rides, but the great time with friends and family or by your self, Great America is the old family traditions that have years to come. (Hopefuly)
I remember Raging Bull opening year. Me and my dad went into the park and I rode Iron Wolf for the first time. Then we went over to Batman The Ride. I though it was the most intense coaster in my life. After those two rides we went on everything else in the park. At about 4, we walked to southwest territory. And I saw Raging Bull...it was amazing. I just looked straight up at what I though was the tallest thing in my life. So we went into the line. I was actually really scared..but I kept looking at the people at the end of the ride clapping and smiling. So I though it wouldn't be that bad.
When we got up to the station they had a little delay because they were putting on the third train. When it was our turn to ride I saw the yellow train with the lap bars and the seats all shinny. I sat down and I was surprised at how comfortable the seats were. I couldn't even touch the floor and I thought it was the best thing ever. By the time we the ride started it was about 7:00 and the park would be closing in a hour. The sun was setting and we were in the front row. It was the coolest looking thing ever with the lights on the lift and the sun setting in the background. Then the first drop....I screamed and threw my hands up while sticking my feet in the air. The drop seemed to be getting steeper and steeper..until we went into the tunnel. The rest of the ride was filled with airtime and was so smooth. When we got off I was so happy and running down the exit. So since we had a while before the park closed, we ate some pizza and went back in line for Raging Bull. And me and my dad got to ride it again.
My favorite memory was when I first went to go on Eagle and I waited in line and my sister told me that the ride stopped at the helix where the water is and she told me people died and stuff like that and I believed her. I was so embarrassed.
My other memory was when I first went on Bull and I was put on the front row on the teal train and it was my first time..I was scared to death and cried the entire time and held on for dear life and now I go on it all the time because it is the best ride ever.
