Opening Day 2009

Going to a park and want to meet up with other members of this site. Feel free to post where you will be going!
Postby FParker185 on February 27th, 2009, 6:31 pm
Last year on Mothers day, a few people called the park to make sure they'd be open in the crappy weather, they were told it'd be open all day and they drove up from Indiana only to find the park closing at noon and them being denied entrance.

I'd still say call if you're driving a long distance, but take it with a grain of salt. If they say they will be open, and the weather is ok (above 40 and no precip) it'd probably be reasonably safe to go. I dont think the park would close on opening day after opening as long as all rides that are ready can run, even if just for staff training purposes.

SFKK used to do that, open on a friday in Late March and there'd be like 500 people in the park tops, but every single ride was being run to full capacity, even T2 and Chang were running 2 trains, they were doing that for training purposes according to a supervisor I know there. Hopefully SFGAm will use the same mindset.

here's a snippet from a article about Six Flags current condition..

Even the weather is bringing adversity. Six Flags Over Georgia was scheduled to open today —- its earliest opening ever —- as the summer of 2009 shapes up as a make-or-break year for the company. But a forecast of rain forced the park to cancel that plan, and now it says it will decide today whether to open Sunday.

So there, even just a forcast of bad weather will make them cancel an operating day, def call ahead.

I wish they hadn't made opening day a weekday. Now my Dad has to work and my best friend has school, so I can't go.

It's a Friday though and if the weather is bearable and you don't mind going when some of the rides might not be open yet you should go knowing it will be fairly empty...I do want to make a trip in April when it is cool and the crowds are to a minimum.

Colder days with no one in a park are amazing. Closing weekend and SF St. Louis was that way and we had the entire park done in 4 hours. 600 people were the tops they had, just be advised they can close early without much notice.

I still hate the fact that it opens on a weekday. I have darn school. I guess, if I don't have an interview then, maybe I could convince the boyfriend to take me Friday after classes and Saturday. But right now I just plan on going on Saturday.

30% chance of rain Friday, 40% Saturday and 60% Sunday with temps hovering in the low to mid 40's. Chilly coaster weather. looking more and more likely the park will NOT open this weekend.

I have decided that opening day is way too cold this year and will be skipping it. Enjoy those empty queues, friends.

I think a lot of people underestimate the temps up in Gurnee when on a ride going over 55 MPH. If you wear nice spring jackets you should be fine though. The big boys last like 1:30.

If it rains til noon, I can guarantee beyond any shadow of a doubt that SFGAm will NOT open. If it's raining at 9am, I bet it will be called off

WeatherBus says:

Partly cloudy. Breezy. Highs around 50. Northwest winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph at times until late afternoon decreasing to 10 to 15 mph late in the afternoon.

perfect, except for the wind...

But I have no idea where you are getting rain, if its The Weather Chanel... I feel sorry for you...

I'll be there in a pink Aurora hoodie with a guy probably wearing a red hoodie. I'll either wear my running shoes or my brand-spankin' new neon pink Converse. Say hi if you see us!
