Park will not be open Tomorrow (Sunday April 5th)

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.
Postby CoasterDave316 on April 4th, 2009, 10:49 pm
Just a notice to anyone planning on going tomorrow. The Park will not be open.

On Great America's official site it says the park will not be opening tomorrow due to the winter weather advisory.

I'm really glad Six Flags decided this tonight rather then waiting a hour into the day tomorrow before deciding to close. Way to be pro-active Six Flags.

so who else went out there, not really thinking about the weather, because, lets admit it, they've been open under worse conditions.

I went up about 1pm. It was just going to be recon. Grab the cheesy coupon book, grab this years cup for cokes this summer (because god forbid I want to use the cup from last year or year past). And check out the lines for BB. But HEAVENS! Gates closed, no notice, no signs. I wonder just how many went up at opening and were turned away and how many were pissed.

It woulda been so easy, check the weather, see that the storm broke up and we werent to get any weather until WAY LATE (we got snow around 1030) and open the park. Those that went by the report wouldnt go, others would. Or repost that the park will close at like 5 or something. Thats one day of lost revenue and one day closer to that one Chapter in the book they dont want to read....11.

Now I want to see them close the park at the next threat of a storm with lightning, because lets admit, they got some of the highest structures in Lake County. 8)
Is 2009 the last page in Chapter 10?

It said they were closed on the highway sign and the website due to the winter weather advisory, what more can you ask for?

They announced a day prior that they wouldn't be opening, all you had to do was research it a bit. I would have to say six flags played this one right.

It began snowing here (7 miles west of the park) around 3pm Sunday, which would be right in the middle of the park's day. By not opening period, they probably avoided the mobs of pissed off guests that would've flooded guest relations if they otherwise closed the park in the middle of the day. Their calender says "Dates and Hours Subject to Change without Notice", be happy they gave notice the day before.

With the amount of people that were going to the park vs. the number of staff in the park plus operating expenses. If they did open that would have taken them a step closer to Chapter 11, there is no way they are making money anyways. With the forecast for Sun they made the right move, and they even announced it beforehand. Not like they decided at 9:45am that day that they wouldn't be opening. It was called off and employees not to show up way in advance, they didn't have the luxury of looking at the radar and making a call that morning, even still was the right choice. Here ion Naperville it started to snow around 4pm, at which point I looked at the radar and Gurnee was already covered with shades of green and white.

At this point in time, I think we're basically on the last paragraph of chapter 10.

Chapter 11 only boils down to if SF's creditors don't come to new terms by August when SF is required to make a payment.

It has nothing to do with one of their parks closing for a day.

Well yeah, but opening unnecessarily doesn't help anything :)

Also pretty sure they are on the last sentence of Chapter 10.

I came up Milwaukee ave. There were no signs. The only sign I saw was an Orange highway sign saying for SF traffic to use Washington and Grand Ave's.
