Did I miss this announcement? I know the hold is broken and read from a few posts that maybe it just wont be fixed to save money, but what source said the ride will be completely closed?

No they are replacing all the chassis/frames this year. They didnt recieve them until late last week, so odds are they wont be done by opening day. Thats a lot of work to get done in one week so dont count on it being open very soon.

god what a damn bummer. did not know about this at all.

The way you word it makes it seem like we should not expect it to be fixed for a month or two. thats a major ride to be down for so long..

Don't expect it to open very soon as with all ride upkeep on rides this time of year they don't hurry too much since they know crowds aren't too big now having one (even V2) ride down is not a big deal. People who do come can find other rides to go on. The park is opening 24 days earlier this year than last.

And I was expecting every ride in the park to be open? Shock, they aren't? That stinks that there will be no V2. I wonder how many other rides will not be open to save money.

^ If you actually read the post made by 025740, you would know V2 being down has absolutely nothing to do with saving money

They could've ordered the parts later in order to save money on a ride that's probably one of the most expensive rides in the park. It's also a lower capacity ride compared to a lot others because of only 1 train. I've been listening to a podcast, and they were saying the rafts rides are really, really expensive so I'm guessing our raft ride would be the most expensive ride in the park, or maybe that wavepool.

It has nothing to do with saving money, it has tons to do with the time involved.

Think of it this way: Park usually opens first weekend in May since forever. Randomly this year coorporate decides to open the park a month early without hiring any extra staff to cover everything that needs to get done. The park usually isn't completly ready on most opening days in May! I would be shocked if V2 is the only coaster down on opening day.

Yup, be happy considering weather changes day-to-day, wind factors this time of year and this is their earliest start ever. V2 should be up and running by early May. Don't forget the park is closed to the public April 25th and 26th for a private event. There goes one weekend.

It's the earliest ever because they need to get attendance, and money up to show investors so their stock can go up.

Well considering the weather will most likely be subpar...half the rides closed...most people in school/ or not wanting to come and most likely not many people expecting the park to be open in the first place..was it the best idea for the general public?

for us..sure its amazing :D but to impress investors? id be more impressed if they did something to INCREASE revenue...like a new ride

I would think all of them. That way its easier to keep track of which frames were replaced when. Just my logic though...

Yeah, their gross revenue may look higher, but their operating costs will probably take away any real profit made, might even hurt the company in the long run...

^We'll all find out Friday. Might be a mistake though, as ALL rides would include Buccaneer Battle, which is definitely not opening.

When a park is closed for 5 months like SFGAM they have MORE than enough time to have all rides open on opening day, be it this friday or a few weeks later like it has been in past years.

Im sure management knew in advance that the park was opening earlier this year, and unless V2's problems were brand new/unexpected it should have been ready for opening day. And even if the problem is fairly new they could have the ride running if they were willing to spend the proper time/money to get it running. They would spend the monye if it had to do with there flashpass system, im sure!!!

They probably let go of some of the mechanics after they booted Deja Vu. They might have less mechanics than ever to do stuff. They could have 2 trains for every ride open if they wanted to, but they don't feel a need for it. If a park is open more, and less offseason, you hire more mechanics. The Magic Mountain pr person told me it takes several weeks to refurb a ride.

Shapiro plan was to have rides open along with number of trains based on how many people were at the park. If it's a slow day, they have less trains. Maybe, that's why Raging Bull has 2 sometimes, and not always 3 even if the line is 30 minutes. For sometime now, Great America has on some days they would open Big Easy Balloons, and than later in the day, they would close it, and open up Jester's Wild Ride. I don't like this idea because the people in the park never know what time Big Easy Balloons is going to be open, and when it's not going to be open. If they are going to do this idea, have a sign that says (portable maybe) that this ride is open from 12 pm - 4 pm today.

Its easier to say "All of the rides will be open this day" than "all of the rides except the water rides and Vertical Velocity."

all of the rides will be up and running from 10am-7pm

She couldve done without that though, many of the rides open at 11 .

That would stink to have it down for a while. It's my 3rd favorite ride at the park and like last year, Bull was down on opening day. But that was because of maintenance and wind. I guess it's good to have new frames in a way. What exactly happened to the brakes again?
