Whoa, that's awsome. The name for it will probably be pretty fitting too.

That would be cool! But at SFOG you at least get your morning exercise!

A furious storm once roared `cross the sea, catching ships in its path, helpless to flee. Instead of a certain and watery doom, the winds swept them here to Typhoon Lagoon!

The promotion caused complete chaos everywhere. Park reached capacity at 5:52 am. At 9:00am, traffic still showed no signs of lightening up. Exits to the park were closed by police for safety reasons. Lots of people were turned away after the park reached capacity and were very frustrated.

Still think a Chicago radio station should try this?

^ I believe this is one of the main reasons parks swing away from this type of event. It's one thing to have a buyout where certain number of tickets are bought and that's final, but a "free-for-all" has an entire different meaning.

I understand the issue of capacity for safety reasons, but I don't think many visitors realized that would be an issue. Common sense would tell you that a "ditch day" at an amusement park for free would bring in the masses, but I'm sure many parents did what they do normally: drop their child(ren) and their friends off and not think anything of it. They'd be back after work to pick them up.

They clearly didn't think this through very well. I certainly don't know everything about promotion and event management but it doesn't take many brains to figure out that they should have had a huge amount of traffic control and security on hand.

I still think it's a neat idea, if it's planned for properly.

I think this is quite a comical story! Of course it was crowded!!!! Seriously, if they get 10s of thousands of people to pay 55 bucks for one day and still have long lines, what makes them think this would have worked out?!

They probably werent :)

Either that or SFOG thought the radio station knew what they were doing, like say first 5,000 people to check out the website get free ticket or something like that, rather than be there or be square.
