I was just by the park today and my girlfriend noticed something, it looks like their retracking american eagle right at the first bend after the drop. If you're ever on washington street go have a look. I didn't take pictures cause i didnt have a decent camera with me.
They have usually been switching sides retracking for a few years. Glad theyre taking the time to keep a classic in good shape!
http://themeparkcritic.com/scripts/profile/ViewProfile.asp?ViewID=2909 A furious storm once roared `cross the sea, catching ships in its path, helpless to flee. Instead of a certain and watery doom, the winds swept them here to Typhoon Lagoon!
^I hear you on that! There's always this bump then it gets rough again. Nevertheless, at least parts get better every year and care is still asserted on this monster!
RIP: Trailblazer and Deja Vu...heck, even Alien Encounter
The reason for that was after closer inspection it was determined that other parts of the ride were in need of rehab more than the bottom half of the helix. It will get done eventually.
Actually, most of the ride has been retracked. If my memory is correct, the retracking went like this....
Fall of 1996 to Spring of 1997: Final Helix on both the Blue an Red sides. This was from the block brake at the top of the final helix to the first set of brakes going into the station.
Fall of 1997 to Spring of 1998: Top half of the barrell for both Red and Blue sides
Fall of 1998 - Spring of 1999: Bottom half of the barrell for both Red and Blue sides
Fall of 1999 - Spring of 2000: Blue side, from exit of barrel to block brake before final helix.
Fall of 2004 - Spring of 2005: Blue's Lift Hill
Fall of 2005 - Spring of 2006: Red's Lift Hill
Fal of 2006 - Spring of 2007: Top of the drop out to the top of the helix. I know they had started on the blue side around the middle of Sept. I would guess that they would be doing both sides, but I have not been out there to take a closer look.
