There's not really anything new at all in the video/story, but for those hadn't heard that Shapiro wants Six Flags to be more family friendly beat into their head enough, here it is for you.
We will have to have patience and wait at least until the end of the 2007 season to determine if Mr. Shapiro succeeds in his mission of making Six Flags (in general) a success and having Great America "turn the corner."
I hope he succeeds, but his task will not be easy.
The situation about the parks losing money don't surprise me at all. Maybe it's because the high cost of tickets and parking put together which are keeping the guests away.
There was a time when park attendance would drastically increase nonstop beginning on Memorial Day. One Memorial Day 1085 counted over 22.0. Today I don't know if we average no more than 25.0, and that includes the waterpark.
R.I.P. Splashwater Falls and Space Shuttle America. Deja Vu, enjoy Idaho.
Hear ye, hear ye: "After 45 years, Six Flags has stopped smoking."
^ I think so too that the very high cost of food, tickets, gas prices will keep alot of people from going to the park but as we say this many people will still argue that it is not the high price of food, tickets, parking, ETC, but how clean the park is and how the park looks, including friendly employees. To me I don't care if I don't get a hi from a employee, I just want to ride.
Question? When they had very high attenedence last year did this park still lost money.
I dont think SFGAM has lost money every year if reports that we get(of course they arent official as im not aware of the SF releasing each parks profit staements)on the internet or papers are true.
The company itself has been run in a totally inept manner nad has lost major amounts of money.
I think the company now is being run much better, but i think they are hurting some of the good things they are doing be raising parking and admission prices too much and not lowering some prices on food/drink like other parks have done.
But families is where the $$$ is @. When I go to the park I NEVER spend money. I bought my parking pass there and one meal (which I didnt want to buy). I didnt even buy my pass @ that park.
That is True, Holiday World does do that, my cuzin tells me all this stuff. u know what , for some odd reason i think shapiro should Higher the prices sky rocketing so only some of the cleanest and richest families can afford, and lower the prices on everything in the park.
Just kidding, that would be horrible but would be a change ay?
shapiro should Higher the prices sky rocketing . now read this, i found this interresting, i found the information below after i typed that just kidding around .....
Shapiro plans to bring Six Flags (Research) back to profitability for the first time since 1998 by eschewing costly new roller coasters, which, he argues, attract only teens. Instead, he's courting families (and their fatter wallets) with a no-smoking policy, more courteous employees, daily parades, brunches hosted by Bugs Bunny, and VIP seating for new attractions like petting zoos and Chinese acrobats. (He's even posted employees in the bathrooms to keep them squeaky clean.) "We're going to make it more touchy-feely," he says.
That's not all. Shapiro is also jacking up ticket prices, furiously hawking sponsorships for pizza, candy and soda, and selling off unprofitable locations to reduce the company's massive debt load -- moves designed to please Wall Street, not Main Street. The company lost $111 million on just over $1 billion in revenues last year.

I think the reason for the lowering of attendance, at least for our park, is due to the way they went about this family thing. Just because the advertisement says it's now family oriented, doesn't mean people buy that. Families have always attended our park and the ones that haven't aren't going to attend just because they claim that it is now family oriented, they need proof. A new kiddy section or new family rides. Parks like SF St. Louis, SFGadv, SFMW, and any others that added nice new family sections have the advantage here. But then, once these new families decide they want to go, they see the prices, count their kids, add up the total, and go yet another year without attending.
Annual park attenders will always come if the experience enhances or stays somewhat the same, but it's new visitors that will help attendance and with the combo of lack of kiddy rides for families, lack of thrills for thrillseekers, and high prices, this isn't going to happen smoothly.
RIP: Trailblazer and Deja Vu...heck, even Alien Encounter
Has anyone even KNEW that they lost money? cause all these rollercoasters there putting up in almost every park doesn't look like they are broke. Now the family-friendly park thing I don't mind. It's about time they start doing that.
