I finally went to the park today for the first time in the season and I noticed something was different about it. Instead of the original music, the sections played a certain decade. For example, Hometown played the 50s, Yukon played the 70s, and County Fair played the 80s. Orleans played a different kind of zydeco, and Yankee Harbor -- I don't even know.
Now the sections are way out of theme.
Someone posted a picture of a sign on greatamericaparks.com and it said that this is supposed to 'commemorate' the 45th anniversary of Six Flags. I personally think that wasn't a good idea.
I'd post the picture but I don't know how to do that on the forum.

I noticed that when I was at the park on Friday. I loved it, there was actually some decent music to listen to while inside the park instead of the same music we've all heard 100's of times.

I think if possible the music should match the area it is in, if possbile.
And while i love 60's music, southwest territory should have old westewrn type music to match the theming of the area, and using music from westerns like the Good the bad and the Ugly etc should be used to enhance the theming and not 60's music IMHO.
I havent had a chance to go to the park yet to see any changes mentioned on this site but i am looking forward to my visit.

There's country too

I agree. I do like 60s music but Southwest should have music which matches the theming. That's why a lot of us are against this 45th anniversary 'decades celebration'. But with the advent of MP3 technology, they could add a lot more music to each section. Plus, the old Marriott sections could have classic 30s and 40s songs mixing in with the old Marriott muzak included with the opening of the park. And I'm still hoping they recover any of the muzak which was missing when they converted their soundtracks to CD from reel-to-reel years and years ago.
The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly was roughly never included in Southwest Territory's original soundtrack, you just heard it from a carny game near the wooden trestle.

They should have used the whole soundtrack from the Good Bad And Ugly thru-out SWT(rather than the 10 second riff they would play) as it matches the theming perfectly and is a great soundtrack anyway.
Little if any 60's country musci matches the old west feel of SWT.
The country-western 'story songs' you hear from the 50s and 60s might slightly match with the old western theme. It's nothing like modern country music.

Well at least its just for the 45th anniversary the regular music will be back next year. I am thinking of complaining though. Since it takes away from the theming and ruins the parks atmosphere.
It is pretty upsetting. In line for Deja Vu, I am going to miss the corny music. I'll get to hear something different now though even though I miss the other music. They add Demon themed music, and take away the other good music. Star Wars in Batman area. There are two things to laugh about, or complain about in that sentence I just made.
"I've been staring at the world, waiting. All the trouble and all the pain we're facing. Too much light to be livin' in the dark. Why waste time? We only got one life. Together we can be the CHANGE. So go and let your heart burn bright"
It's not that the music is "horrible". But, its rock. IF I want to listen to rock, I turn on the radio. When I come to SFGAM I expect to be in a different world. Away from the annoyances of everyday life. (not that rock is an annoyance)
There is no point to changing the music. 1) Shapiro wants to attract families with young children "Holla Back Girl" is not going to do it 2) the music does not match most territories 3) rock is not relaxing
I agree, the new music does take away from the atmosphere of the park we've all grown to love *sigh*; however, I don't think its going anywhere at least until the end of the summer. At least we don't have to deal with it that much longer. You know, they should sell the Great America Soundtrack in one of the gift stores. Then you could tune out all the rock and listen to the good stuff.
On greatamericaparks.com, in one of the discussion forums someone has downloads to some of the old Marriott music in the park. You would be able to tell which one right away enjoy!
Yea, I am assuming the regular music will be back next year.
