Whats going on for SFGAm's 30th anniversery? All i've seen is a 30th Anniversary logo that was at No Coaster Con (i didnt go, someone else took this pic)
http://cpe-65-25-185-174.wi.res.rr.com: ... arLogo.jpg I dont know whats happening on May 29, 2006 though. I heard there would be alot of fun things this season. Ive also heard that the model from when AE was being built will be displayed at the enterance of AE.
What's happening on May 29th? I believe that is the date the park opened in 1976, but I'm not positive. Sweet, I'm going on the 29th too. I'm sure its not gonna be anything too special.
I think that you can expect the park to pull out stuff that has been in mothballs and show it off, like the original park model, AE model, old signage, etc.
I do not think it's going to be huge, but its nostalgic. I like the logo though, as it harkens back to the Marriotts "STAR" logo.
Yeah. I'd expect to see this on the parade doors in Hometown Square and the cover of the park map & guide. Is the May 29, 2006 part of the actual logo, or something added to the PowerPoint slide? If it was part of the logo, it should say May 29, 1976 in my opinion.

I feel they should bring back the Bicentennial costume that was worn by Bugs Bunny during the Marriott years. I always thought it was a great costume! They should also bring back the 5 cent root beer stand called the "Hot Shoppe", and there should also be a special 30th anniversary music show in the Grand Music Hall (Remember when we used to have REAL music shows?)
Of course a new coaster would be great but that is doubtful, considering Snyder's stance on new coasters. I would also love to see Sky Whirl back and DejaVu gone, but that will not happen either. Another idea would be to bring back the historic flags that used to fly on Carousel Plaza. Each one used to be different, showing the progession of flags from US history. We can all dream, cant we?
We should all remember to be thankful to have a world-class theme park like Six Flags Great America here in our local area!
I sure would like to see the Hot Shoppe back. For those of you that don't know the story, it's located between Trudys and HT Funnelcake. A small brick building. Its a replica of the original stand where J. Willard Marriott and his wife started their business which grew into one of the best known hotel chains in the world.
The place was EXACTLY like the original was, down to the fixtures on the ceiling.
though we wont probably get a coaster, I like the idea of bringing the hot shoppe back and the grand music hall show would be cool. It'd be awesome if they could do a show that would bring all of the last thirty years together. I think it'd be cool if they brought back an afternoon parade. New costumes for the characters for the 30th anniversary would be cool too.

They still fly historic flags by Columbia's reflecting pond.

I hope if the sell t-shirts/hats etc for the anniversy i hope they actually keep the stuff in stock for the whoile year!!
For the 25th they ran out of everything but hats before June and i was never able to buy the excellant shirt they made up to celebrate 25 years. I saw the items in early MAy but wiated till i came back later in Amy and all ther shirts were gone and never replaced which made no sense IMHO.
Hey, I just realized something. Is our park called great america because it was started in 1976 which was exactly 200 years after our country was started.
