I dont know if I'm the only one who experiences this but here it goes. Every time I go to SFGAM I try to squeeze in a ride on giant drop, I have been on it at least 10 times. But everytime we begin to go up I have a sense of regret, cause it so damn high. This is the only ride that makes me feel that way.But when its all over I want to ride it again, and I usually do. Does anyone else have some story about giant drop, or comments?
I'm running to Bull on opening day, anyone gets in my way and they'll get trampled.
Yes, I have that feeling. However its not the height....I absolutley love taller rides, its the anticipation that gives me a stomach ache. Not knowin' when is horrible. I have counted thinking I'll remember how long you are up there, and I get it wrong, then of course...it falls and it feels great
i love that ride, you get to the top, as soon as you completely stop, 1...2...3...4...5 DROP i get the countdown right everytime, as soon as you hit 5, you let go and hang on to nothing and FLY!!! its great
Yea, its a great ride, I have no regrets ever riding it. I like heights too, but the element of just being in a chair that is 200 something feet high gets to you sometimes. Its worse at night, but I still like it.

Its called Ride anxiety or whatever its called its normal everybody experience it on all type of rides. I experienced it too when I ride a ride but when you finished a ride you just want to keep going back again. Some people gets scared some end up crying and dont go back again.
My first time on it, I was watching it from the line, and I counted that they held you up on top for about 7 seconds before you dropped. But when I finally got on, I started counting at the top "1...2...3...4...5...DROP!!" It scared the s**t out of me!!!
"And that farm girl walked off with slippers off a dead woman? She must have been raised in a barn!" ~Wicked, an excellent musical
Oh yeah, I always get a little bit of anticipation when I strap myself in. Mostly I'm worried I will lose my cellphone, or shoes. I haven't been on the ride at all this year, so I'm sure the feeling will be stronger than ever next time I ride.
I usually get anxious when I get onto Giant Drop and look up, but the ride that freaked me out the most was Drop Zone Stunt Tower at PKI. At 315' tall its one of the tallest, the other thing it has going for it, was the fact that it is next to a valley, so that increases the percieved height that you are at, it really freaked me out. That and the fact that it takes forever to reach the top... No really like 60+ Seconds I believe.

Same here with the cell phone, I'm checking my pockets and shoelaces about 10 times before I ride.
Try riding Blue Fall in Japan. It stands (I believe) at 351 feet tall. Has six cars and three fall straight down and the other three drop about 20 feet and hit some brakes and drop you again. It was a rush!!!!!

Waiting to fill this space with something stupid to say!
I've been on Drop Zone (PKI), Tower of Terror (WDW), Power Tower (Cedar Point), Dr. Doom's Fearfall (IOA), and many big shot rides. However, Giant Drop has been the only one that has gotten me scared. It wasn't until like my 20th time before i got over that feeling.
RIP: Trailblazer and Deja Vu...heck, even Alien Encounter
I do get a little sick to my stomach at the top of Giant Drop. But the launch towers (of the Power Towers at Cedar Point) are what really mess up my stomach.
I don't think our Giant Drop has had any major incidents, but I do think that an Intamin Second Generation Drop tower did have a problem one time with a girl's hair. Don't quote me on that, I don't know 100%
Edit, I looked it up and Apparently a boy fell from the Drop Zone at Paramount's Great America, that ride is just like Giant Drop at Six Flags Great America and was one of the reasons that Six Flags installed seatbelts on Giant Drop.

you drop 3 seconds after the donkeys are hit at the bottom.

My neighbor said that at another park they had a ride like gd and one time the brakes didnt work so the cars went six feet into the ground. Im guessing shes wrong, right?
Yes, she is definately wrong. The brakes are magnetic and require no electricity to work. To put it simply, metal fins on the cars run through slots with heavy magnets on each side. The magnets slow the car considerably, but do not actually stop it, which is why there are hydraulic cylinders mounted to the ground. The brakes work whether you are traveling upwards or downwards, and you'll feel the car speed up about 2/3 up the tower on your way to the top. When it does, you're past the top of the magnets.
