The Demon Tunnels

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.
Postby Mr. D.T. on October 7th, 2005, 9:20 am
I'm aware that the Demon got special theming for the fall so this is brought to mind. The whole time I've been riding the coaster I can't help but be curious of the music and sounds that are played in the tunnels: the one at the beginning of the ride and the one at midpoint with all the lights. Every time I went on the ride I couldn't grasp what was being played in the first tunnel either because the sound was too loud or the speakers were too old. And I haven't a clue why the lights in the tunnel are lit only on the sides and not on the top. Any opinions or comments?

I think the noise is the demon laughing, but like you said it is hard to hear.

They're clips of the Demon Song and sound effects from the fake radio transmission about the demon. If you listen carefully, you'll hear them singing as the train goes into the first tunnel. You'll need to stand in line for the front row to hear it better.

They made that ride so much better just by adding smoke in those tunnels

For the lights, they were removed on the top of the tunnel cause people were throwing stuff at the bulbs and breaking them.

I remember when all the lights were there, it would do a rotating tunnel effect, was unusaually effective and nauseating.

Gosh, why are people so rude and inconsiderate?

Well I hope they keep the fog in the second tunnel, I loved that...there was just so much that you couldnt see  They did a good job on that.

If you have the theme soundtrack, there is an interesting sound effect around 13:18.

I remember hearing the sound of that harp as I went through the first tunnel.

Brian Plencer on GREAT AMERICA parks posted it on the message boards there.

I like the sound effect that starts about 3:34. They play it when you go into the first tunnel and it sounds real cool.

Everything that was playing in the quene during Fright Fest is on it. The stuff used to be played all the time until church groups complained and made the park tone down the ride.

I think back in the 80's times were just different and a whole different set of stuff that is rather standard today was considered, Evil, demonic or in general bad taste back then. Today no one would bat an eye at the original Demon themeing, but unless they plan on leaving what they put on/up during fright fest, it really wouldnt be worth the effort in the parks eyes to go about restoring the original themeing.
