Say you bought SFGAm and had total control of what to do to the park, what would you do?
I would
*Re-Paint Batman to look like SFNO's (I love SFNO's paint scheme),
*Shorten Picnic Grove and Re-Locate DJV to the Picnic Grove and put in a Triple Wheel where DJV was,
*Re-Finish Viper,
*Add some water coaster to HH,
*Change Theatre Royale's show,
*Take out JWR and put back in Cajun Cliffhanger,
*Put back ALL of Demon's old themeing.
*Re-paint Whizzer
*Tear Down V2 - Take Greased Lightning from Astroworld and put in V2's spot and call it Tidal Wave,
*Make Ragin Cajun a dark ride, call it Mardi Gras Madness,
*Run a trolley from the parking lot to the front gates.
*Put in Power Dive where the Go-Karts are now,
*Put a train station in SWT,
*Install a Sky Ride from Condor to Dare Devil Dive. Call it Delta Flyer/Eagle's Flight
*and finally, purchace some land and make a Vekoma 10 Inversion coaster.
If i had the control and money i would tear down AE and put in a new single track wooden roller coaster by the same Co. that built hades and is building Voyager at HW.
I wouild get rid of the tacky go-karts/simulator ride and put in a interactive darkride based on Dc comics with batman/Superman etc.
I would make the pictorium into a 4d type of theatre with moving seats/affects based on looney characters.
I would get rid on the DeJaVue and put in a new flat ride.
I would get rid of the awful kids area's and reconfigure that part of the park so you had one kids area's and not 2 small ones.
And i would get rid of V2 and try to work with the environment/surroundings and put in a launched coaster like Xcelartor or Storm Runner.
I would reduce food/soda prices and increase the price of season pasess so the park becomes less of a babysitting service fron unruly teenagers. I would get rid of fastlane and install a free fastpass system that could be used by everyone.
-Tear down Whizzer and completely remove it
-Tear down S:UF and rebuild it in Whizzer's former location
-Build a new SW in it's original location
-Tear down V2 and replace it with TW
-Repaint B:TR back to it's original color
-Repaint IW & AER&B
-Take out go-karts and simulator and build a B&M floorless
-Build a water coaster in HH
-Repaint IMS and rename back to YC
-Repaint LR
-Take out JWR and put back in CC
My Favorite SFGAm Coasters:
Raging Bull, Viper, Batman: The Ride, Iron Wolf
-repaint iron wolf, refurbish it even better( if its that possible )
-more demon theming...which I heard just may happen. -like BobO said, tear down AE put in a CCI...but make it a hybrid shiveringtimbers sorta ride.
-add to V2 making it a wicked twister, wouldnt it be nice if intamin could figure a way to create a holding brake on the rear twisted tower People complain too much on how boring V2 is so give them more -lets see a new layout of a nice giga .....These are just nice things that would be nice to see
I wouldnt want to see rides that have left because SF took them out for a reason such as unpopularity. Dont take out whizzer because its smooth as glass and thrills lots of people...just because it doesnt acquire to your taste doesnt mean everyone else is just the same.
- Put a B&M Floorless coaster where go karts and simulator are.
- Add a Master Blaster to Hurricane Harbor.
- Add More on to Hurricane Harbor.
- Put a coaster sort of like Stormrunner.
- Paint all of the stuff tht needs to be painted.
- Fix everything that needs to be fixed.
- And if i could, i would lower the admission price to 35.99. I believe tht would raise admission a bit. Cause when ever i ask people if they are going this year they say, no its to expensive to get in and to eat. Soo, ya.
- Put signs pointing to where to go. Cause sometimes i get a little lost even though its just a circle .
My first goal is to make SFGAm of a more family park than it is now...more money.
-Fix the scenery
-Add a daily marching band with the Looney Tunes in the front
-Take the soundstage off the Hometown Train Station
-Put the Hot Shoppe back to its original place in Hometown Square
-Add waitors and waitresses back to original food restauraunts
-Remodel Yankee Harbor
-Change V2 to Tidal Wave
-Remodel Wilderness theater
-Bring back the Trolley system ( if they did it then they can do it now )
-Take out Demon Nachos and have a horse carriage to carry park guests to one side of county fair to the other end ( sounds corny but good for old folks )
-Bring back original theme to BTR
-Add new theme area?
I got more but I got to think about them later
No matter how hard it is...Never EVER give up. The real failure is those who dont try.
-Remove AE with a Giga as high as the height limit.
-Reduce prices.
-Increase entrance fee and season passes.
-Change BTR to Black again.
-Repaint all coasters (with same colors).
-Somehow clear spack for new coasters.
-Try and complete their collection of B&M coasters (without removing a previous coaster).
-Strictly enforce a no smoking while in line policy.
-add fountains to the pond in front of Columbia Carousel
-take out Stargate and Winners' Circle and add a Roller Soaker
-turn the pictorium into a chicago-themed imax simulator attraction (like the Great Smoky Mountains adventure at Dollywood).
-with the roller soaker and the pictorium changed, i would call this section the Great Lakes, it is a part of america and relevant to our location.
Thats all for now, opinions?
RIP: Trailblazer and Deja Vu...heck, even Alien Encounter
-Repaint the Eagle
-Paint Batman Black again
-Add a vertical loop to V2
-Paint Iron wolf with a Silver Spine and marron rails and cross rails
-Remove whizzer
-Remove superman
-Build a custome flying coaster in whizzers location
-Build a "next generation arrow looper" in supermans old location
-The road that lines the park that services the regular and employee parking lot would have the worlds tallest and fastes coaster along that streatch (It will never happen but we can all dream "
-Re-theme ever ride.
-add water ballon launchers next to the water rides.
-Increase houres to 10am-2am on saturdays (MM has a few mons like that)
-Make coasters after dark 4 hours long.
-The the opening day would be an all nighter 10am-10am (season pass holders only)
-Buy the land that lines the parking lot and build a parking garage into it. and place a floorless in a section of the parking lot.
-Build an extreme stunt tower that is 400ft high. It would have stand up trains, floorless trains, and regular trains. The seats would tilt forwards a little as well.
-Build A Mr. Freeze.
-Build a custome woodie.
-Make Hurricane Harbor a seperate admission theme park.
-Tear out king chaous and replace it with a floorless top spin.
-Remove reveloution and replace it with a gaint frisbe.
-Bring back rolling thunder.
-Creat a Six Flags Great America History Exibit in the place of SWAT
-Send out Park map and guides with the season pass premotion in the begining of the season.
-Use more concreat, instead of ashphalt.
-Beef up security.
-Have a better employee reward program.
-Give employees more breaks.
-Bring back those larg maps they used to see in the stores.
-Lower the cost of merchendise.
-Enforce a stricter dress code.
-Arm security with guns and batons.
-Use hurricane Harbor for Fright Fest!
-Of course, got to have the 4D! a Dueling 4D! (WILL NEVER HAPPEN )
So thats my list of Great things to do to Great America. By no means realistic, but its fun to dream.
repaint all coaster (same color)
repave the whole park (in offseason)
put more misters in ride lines
paint batman black with yellow rails
put fog in all the stations during ff (so much you can hardly see it)
put a delerium in place of revo.
put a sign over the top of raging bulls hill that says prepare to...(think of something.
Here are the rest of my ideas,
-add jumping fountains in the center of hometown square
-add a sling shot upcharge ride and a night time laser show like at cedar point
-repaint Whizzer and American Eagle
-ADD A ZIPPER
-replace iron wolf and the eagle tent with a floorless, i don't see why it's not possible
-take out Loggers Run and weave a suspended (iron dragon) coaster in with the Ice Mountain Splash
-move Turbo Bungy over to the area west of King Chaos and build a flying scooters (Air crow) ride in the former Hometown Park.
-add fake skyscapers among Superman's track
My ideas are mounting, i just can't remember them all.
RIP: Trailblazer and Deja Vu...heck, even Alien Encounter
-make the scenrey a bit better, onyly SWT has a real authentic look to it... everything else is just blah...
-repaint batman back to its original
-completly remove Wolf, put in whatever?
I would get rid of the Picnic Grove all together. Wasted space most of the time.
Welcome to ShockWave please pull your harness down as far as it will go. While riding ShockWave please keep your hands and feet inside the car, and your head against the headrest, please hold on to all loose articles, especially hats and glasses. Enjoy your ride!

Wonderful idea. But SFGAm is in a residential area with cranky neighbors. The year that Giant Drop opened they had an employee night in Southwest Territory. It was supposed to be until 1:30. My plan was to alternate between Viper and Drop all night, screw the flat rides. The party began at 11:30 and Drop (in my opinion much quieter than Viper) had to be closed at 12 because the neighbors were complaining about the noise (said in whiney 5 yr/old voice), and had the cops call to tell us to shut down, might I had that the nearest neighbors are on the other side of the park, jealous I think. But the big babies, who knew they were moving next door to an amusement park, will never let us have anyfun. It's like moving next to an airport, you gotta expect noise, if you don't like it, buy your house somewhere else.
Ugh, ending rant. But that's the only big reason why that dream won't come true.

I hate the residences of gurnee, i have done a lot of digging around about them, and they complained about TO many things. I say to all of them. The park is 30 years old. If you didnt want to live next to an amusment park you should of moved next to it. Half the people that live by great america are in their red neck huts as well.
I hold little confidence that my dream great america will even start to happen.

Off the top of my head, there is very little that I can remember then complaining about. This year they have been a little tiffed about traffic, but why shouldn't they, it's been unbearable at times. Also, I remember hearing complaints against Shockwave's lift, but I can see why. To an enthusiast, it may be a great sound, but if you heard it day after day, it would become quite annoying. If you are talking about the height limit, it's a city council decision, and anyways, I speak for many here when I say that 300-whatever feet is well high enough for any coaster.
Oh yeah, I wouldn't be calling Gurnee houses "red neck huts." It is actually one of the richest townships in all of Illinois. I'm sure a few people who post here are from Gurnee too, and I apologize to you posters for JGSixFlags' insult.

How could you even believe it would ever happen?!?! Your dream would cost about 300 million at the least, and last I checked, Six Flags is in a pooload of debt.
-Make the GD 300ft
-Take down AE and put a floor less launch coaster in -Keep the Break but make the second tower in V2 spiral
-Take add on to camp cartoonnet work, make an adualt swim section
-Take out S:UF
-Rebuild Shockwave
-Take down Whizzer
-put S:UF there
-water coaster in HH
Top Thrill Dragster- One of the tallest and fastest roller coasters

When I worked there they complained about everything. In my opinion, those who bought their homes after the park was built have nothing to be tiffed about. It's like moving near an airport, you know it's there, you know it's going to be noisy, AND you know there is nothing you can do to close it. When you move next to an amusement park you have got to expect the traffic, the screams, the clikity-clack of a roller coaster lift. The only people who have the right to complain are the folks who owned their houses prior to the parks construction, although, I am sure that they had a say in a town meeting or such, but most people probably saw the dollar signs. Having Great America in their city brings in tourists from around the mid-west, bringing in lots of money to buisnesses in the area, which is why Gurnee is one of the richest cities in the Waukegan area.
I am not saying I don't understand, even I would get tired of the Six Flags season if I lived there. I was just pointing out that although for those of us who don't live next door to SFGAm, a 2am closing would be FANTASTIC, the neighbors trying to sleep at night wouldn't think it was so great. Especially when I know that they have complained about Employee Events that go past midnight.

Also, Disney World can do its extended hours easily because there isn't one house within miles of the parks, at SFGAm, they are in the backyard. I know that's kind of stating the obvious but just something I sort of realized.
Back to the original topic though, I have come up with more ideas on how I would change the park if I were in charge.
I would get back to emphasizing theming. It is after all a THEME park. To guests, it's not only the rides that draw them, it is escaping the reality of life, even for a day. I would change Yankee Harbor into Gotham City, make Ice Mountain Splash The Bat Boats, change the color scheme to black and purple, and have all the ops and store employees go back to wearing the Gotham City Public Works costumes, especially since IMS is the only remaining ride that fits the original theme, that area of the park doesn't have hardly anything left that goes with the theme, especially since they changed the name of Yankee Clipper, there isn't anything Yankee or Harbor in there anymore. It just seems "thrown together". I would retheme S:UF so that the flight is New Orleans related to fit into the Orleans Place theming. In Yukon Territory I would simply repaint the Logger's Run flumes, they look a little shabby. I would put SKy Whirl back in the park, possibly in the Picnic Grove, which I have already stated I would get rid of anyway (or at least make smaller), or at least in Camp Cartoon Network, and I would combine the kiddie rides in Looney Toons National Park.

Well all my ideas are covered by other people, but a few notes....
CCI went out of business years ago, closest thing now is Gravity Group.
Arrow no longer offers new coasters, after being bought by S&S they only support their old coasters. S&S says they will still carry Arrow's product line, but among parks there is absolutely Zero interest in any of Arrow's product line exept for 4-D which barely works.
Corperate Picnics/outings make alot of $$$ for the park, making the picnic grove necessary (though not necessarily as huge as it is)
Village of Gurnee limits how long SFGAm can stay open, due to noise and local residents, I believe the limit is either 11 or midnight, though the park could get away with staying open late on very limited special occasions (ERT's and whatnot)
Still lots of neat ideas.
