Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.

Has anyone stayed at the hotels around Great America?

Right now, i'm looking to book a room at the Gurnee Grand Hotel since it is the cheapest hotel in the cluster around GAm.

In the past I've stayed at 2 other hotels:

Adventure Inn: Got the Carousel themed room.
Seemed like a older hotel that was re-themed. The lady on the phone seemed much more pleasant then the lady at the desk.
The walls were painted nice, looked like they paid a high school kid a few bucks to paint it.
The room gave a vibe of used one too many times in ways i don't want to know.
The Hot tub was put in front of the bathroom with about a foot to squeeze between the two.
Also the bed, when you lift up the covers, was a very thick piece of foam put on a plywood base. Not even a real mattress!!
Paid $125 for the night. Didn't seem worth the money

Country Inn & Suites: No real story hear. Front desk people were very nice on all shifts. Lobby was nice looking and clean. Room was clean and quiet. Continental Breakfast was well stocked.
Nothing really sticks out about the hotel, maybe thats a good thing.
Paid $85 during Fright Fest. Very nice stay. If I wasn't doing a 3 day trip this time around, I would pay the extra couple bucks to stay here again.

Any other stories/ information on the hotels in Gurnee?

I usually always stay at Holiday Inns because I have a gazillion priority club points and I have never been dissappointed. The one by Gurnee Mills is about $80/night and that was looking at Memorial Day weekend so they may be cheaper if you are planning a weekend trip not on Memorial Day.

I usually stay at the Comfort Suites across the street from the main entrance. I'm big on the points they give for stays and usually things are pretty good there.

You can walk to GA from there also if you want.

Every summer my friends and I stay at the Grand Hotel. The rooms are really nice, and its a good sized hotel. It has a cool cartoon themed hallway with black lights and neon paint. The rooms in that hall have cartoons painted on the walls, lol. Its frightening opening your eyes and seeing a giant Spongebob on the wall right in front of you.
Finally Coaster Season!!

I would reccomend Baymont Inns and Suites.

We always stay at the Comfort Suites or the Comfort Inn. The Comfort Inn is near the Gurnee Mills mall They are both just typical hotels. This past weekend we paid $65 for the night at the Comfort Inn.

One time about 2 years ago, we stayed at the Bel Lane motel in Waukegan, during FF. That was the nastiest motel I ever stayed at. Heater in the room didn't work, shower, didn't work. found a cockroach in the so-called bathroom. I mean the place was a pit! They need to be shut down. One other time we stayed at Best Western Waukegan, which was really nice and was like 60$ a night.
Candy: What you lookin' at?
Otis B. Driftwood: I'm lookin' at you, mama.
Candy: Yeah, you see something you like?
Otis B. Driftwood: Maybe. I set my standards pretty low, so I'm never disappointed.
