Google just launched a beta for new satellite views for map searches. It a fun tool to play with. What year do you think this photo was taken?
maps.google tips:
you can move the map around by clicking and dragging it.
Click on Maps link at top right to see names of roads.
if you want to learn more go to http://maps.google.com/
I just followed from my house in Bolingbrook to I-55, to I-294, to evntually gurnee. This is the most awesome thing ever! I could do this for hours, and I just might too!
Believe it or not, there is absolutley no sarcasm in my above statment!
4/10/2002. There is also an older black and white photo from 1998. These pictures have been up on the internet for quite some time now off Microsoft's Terraserver webpage (http://www.terraserver.microsoft.com).
The one from Magic Mountain looks scary. It's totally in the middle of nowhere! That one also looks very old, can't tell if X is there or not but I don't tthink it is...

If you liked that, try getting the keyhole program form the website of the same name, much cooler, and more up to date. It took me a little while to find sfgam but i found it, very cool. Sorry but only broadband users can use the program.
I know this has been around for a long time. I remember trying keyhole out several years ago just didn't want to pop for the fee. This is the 1st time it is free for use and can easily share links to views you find. Cool thing this is only a beta, its only going to get better.
Yeah, but microsoft's terra server has had these maps up for well over 5 years. And as I stated above the picture was taken on 4/10/2002. There still seems to be confusion over that.
yup, as aero737 stated twice now, it was back in 2002. With Microsoft's terra server, you can zoom in closer and see the construction crane at Deja Vu. I believe I traced back my route I drove back then and estimated this was around 6 - 8 am or so when this was taken.
Acually, based on the shadow of Sky Trek Tower cast over the reflection pool, it appears the picture was taken cloaser to 3 or 4 pm. If it was 8am then the shadow would be coming out of the east and the top of sky trek tower would be cast over the gocarts or possible the darker paved area of the outside enterance.
Keep in mind, this was taken almost 3 years ago to the day so the sun angle is very similar to how it is right now.
I really think this is a cool tool. Wait, it's more than a tool. It's a sattellite observation device by Google. Microsoft Terra-Server has one too, but this one gives you a clearer image.
You can use it for more than just the Six Flags park. I used it to overlook Hanlon Rd. near 120. I used to travel that road with my dad before they closed it to the public and since then I wondered if I would see it again. How many of you ever traveled Hanlon Rd.???
R.I.P. Splashwater Falls and Space Shuttle America. Deja Vu, enjoy Idaho.
Hear ye, hear ye: "After 45 years, Six Flags has stopped smoking."
