American Eagle work...

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.
Postby SixFlagsChick on April 4th, 2005, 11:23 am
Drove by the park today and saw that the American Eagle was getting worked on. Looked like they were laying new tracks or something. I think it was the red side that looked like there were no tracks on one of the hills, and there was a giant crane helping lift some track back onto the structure, with someone attaching it.

Maybe they were just cleaning it, or they decided it was time to smooth out the old AE.

So if they were painting it, that'd be amazing.

I drove by on 41 Friday. The Blue side had no track on the lift except for at the very top.

Thank god they're painting it. By the end of last season that thing looked so raggedy and crappy, it needed a new coat of paint.

I don't think they're painting it. I think I remember reading somewhere (maybe screamscape  ) that the lift hill was going to be retracked this season and that's all it sounds like they are doing. If they were going to repaint it, i'd think they would have started MUCH earlier seeing as how massive the structure is. And also, you would think if they were in fact repainting it (which they probably aren't) they would do it after all the new wood was put into place, which seems as if that hasn't happened yet either.

At NoCoasterCon someone brought up the idea about repainting AE to the new GM Ron Sevart. He said they are always looking for suggestions and while he hadn't taken a close look at AE yet he would look into it for sometime in the future..... There's always next year.

^ That pretty much sums it up. Nothing really eventful. Lots of guys walking around the lift hill with hammers...
(I'm sure it's more complicated then that, by the way)

I do have a photo of some of the construction work on my website.
I was around the park on Saturday and it is a total mess. I doubt
it'll be open by Opening Day. If it is, I'll be totally suprised.

In my opinion, it's very easy to see why they are redoing the lift hill track. I've seen the Am E get stuck a lot last season on the lift hill. Besides that, it's old with all things considering.

Wooden coasters have a lower initial cost, but have alot more maintenance costs. Steel coasters have a higher initial cost, but have less maintenance costs. So I understand why their doing it. But the reason it gets stuck is usually because someone takes off their belt.

They are NOT repainting American Eagle this year. When asked at No Coaster Con, the GM, Ron Sevart, said that he had not looked into it yet. If they were going to paint it this year, they would have started WAY earlier.

I don't know where you got your information technop, but they did work on the helix last year. This year they are working on the lift hill and not repainting it...Just clairifying.

I guess I'll point out that the 2006 season will be the 25th operating season for the Eagle so maybe a nice fresh paint job to celebrate. :?: :)

Wait, did the security gaurd that used to work at SFGAm tell you that technop? Anyways from the looks of that photo I don't think AE will be ready for opening day. Everything seems to be getting going pretty late if you ask me.

They will probably just repaint the lift hill. Otherwise, it would be pretty stupid for that part to look like Viper while the rest of the coaster is white.

While they did the helilx, they kept the zigzag part not painted because you can't see it unless you are on the ride. I don't know if you would be able to see it on the lift hill or not. Since, they are putting down new track, I would expect just that part to be painted.
