Ok, I have fallen victim to the 'poll'. What do you think is the fate of the Ameri-Go-Round? As you know, the ride could be seen in large storage crates below Superman for much of last year. We haven't heard much more about the ride, other than the fact that SfGam planned to do something with it. Well it's been a year now and there is no news about it.
I think it will soon find a new home at another park. I could see a small park getting it.
If anyone selects either of your last two options, they are fools... there is no way that Six Flags would junk or sell for parts this classic antique carousel.
I choose that it will go to another park. However, I don't think it would be SF. It's worth too much to keep it at just another SF park.
Did you guys notice that they don't play the "normal" music on the double carousel anymore? I like it better that way. In my opinion, I like Kiddieland's Merry-go-round the best. I think it is one of the fastest ones out there. Santa's Village is pretty awful due to its cheap motor. However, all around amusements is not bad.
Lastly, I just want to say that SFGAm's merry-go-round is like its symbol just like Disneyworld has the castle, and Epcot has the ball. Sorry, about all of this, but it is a merry-go-round topic. Anyway, continue.
"I've been staring at the world, waiting. All the trouble and all the pain we're facing. Too much light to be livin' in the dark. Why waste time? We only got one life. Together we can be the CHANGE. So go and let your heart burn bright"
I said sold for parts, but thats only because "Sell the horses" wasn't a choice. All the animals are hand-carved, and some are worth more than a single-family home.
They would make FAR more money selling the animals piece by piece. Just be glad that its hiding in shipping crates, undisturbed.
I agree that they will not scrap it or sell it for parts. It's worth alot of money, and I think it will be sold to a newer park that is being developed. Because most parks already have Merry-Go Rounds. I don't think we would get it, because we already have two (If you count a double decker as two).

PRESTIGE. You can get a stock carousel made from a company like Chance that will run forever, but it doesn't have the same character and charm. But on the other hand, the General Public wouldn't know the difference.
I think this is the first time in my entire life I've seen the words Chance(as in Chance Rides) and Run Forever in the same sentence.
Also,
>The mechanical pieces will probably be melted down, since I don't think
>there are any more carousels they would be of use for.
Every single nut and bolt that is on that carousel that is original is worth a literal fortune, parts for a machine of that age and that manufacturer(Dentzel) are quite hard to find, considering the sheer age of the carousel and the fact that the guy who made/carved most of it died almost 96 years ago, and his company went completely out of business about 77 years ago when his sons died.
It is worth more today as parts, but I think it will be sold as a whole to a park in need of a good old carousel that carries a load of history behind it.
Ah... I see what you're saying about it being more valuable as parts... that makes sense. I was just thinking about how valuable a carousel it is when I said what I did about people who selected the last two options...
I still stand by what I said before if anyone selects scrapping it... it's an antique, and valuable.
I could see it going in the area where the Turbo-Bungie is at Gam, or maybe it could replace SFKK's pretty much plastic Merry-go-round. I don't know, but I do know that thing is worth a huge fortune.
The problem with selling it is that Premier would get the money under the current way the company is ran. If this was 10 years ago SFGAM would have got the money. So the logical thing for Great America to do is to keep it for themeselves for now.

Chance builds a good carousel. A carousel has far fewer mechanics than a common thrill ride, thats where the comment is based.
And as for parts, the only part that would be worth much is an original motor and gear set, and Ameri-Go-Round no longer has that.
Bolts, steel linkages and frames aren't worth that much. They can be easily duplicated. The animals are where the money is, not the actual infastructure of the ride. And because of the replacement of certain parts over the years, less of of it is authentic than you think.
Not really, when they filled under the tent it was usually only one little section. I haven't seen them fill that whole tent in years...not even at the end of June this year when the park was full. Most the time part of Eagle's tent was used it was only running one side.
Maybe they would sell or melt down everything except the animals, and sell or keep the animals. If they sold them, it would probably be to some millionare who collects random things, and it they kept it, it would be put on the double decker carousel.

As in multiple, I meant more than once. I saw at least 1/3 of the tent full when BOTH sides were running. They could take out some, but all of it would be stupid.
I don't get why everyone thinks it's coming back. Whenever a ride gets removed we somehow believe it'll come back. If they thought it was worth getting rid of for Revolution, then it's not coming back. Just like Shockwave. Also, we have a double decker in the front of the park, How many carousels do we need?

Well we did have 2(Or 3 if you count CC as 2). Also, SfGam did state that they would look into adding the ride back into the park when Mardi Gras and Revolution were announced, so it is possible that it could return. I doubt it though.
While it would be kinda neat if they did decide to add it back, I just don't see it happening. I think that if there is space to add it back in, they may as well just add something new that may actually draw some more people into the park.
